My son has learnt a lot of discipline from this skills and it has given him confidence. Respect Master Kim for his patience and response. The only downside I had is with the billing department and notifications and it’s always been a troublesome for me.

There are many great aspects of training at Kim Soo Karate. Things like focus, discipline, inner peace, self defense, fitness, mental toughness, etc., are all important for different reasons. However, one should look at martial arts as a lifelong path. There is no destination. It is a journey that will reward you in ways unimaginable. I highly recommend trying it for ninety days and see the transformation begin to take place.

I had heard about this style of martial arts. I was interested in knowing more and having a wah lum background I politely spoke to a sifu (sorry is it sensei?) was asking how it differs just general martial art questions, northern southern style, hybrid style, modern style or traditional. I asked everything repectfully and have always greeted him when our paths cross.I dont know fully what was mumbled but it was along, wah lum, 6 years Ive done it my whole life, like you have something to teach me or swap techniques. I do not understand as I thought teachers liked to teach if the person is genuinely interested and is being respectful. (plus a snort about my grandmaster). If I did something wrong let me know please but the control humility part of martial arts was treated like, HOW DARE YOU APPROACH A MASTER!!Other than that heard it was a good style, so 4 stars, 5 if I attended and I didnt get a older sifu well master on the outside of the class turns out to be angry if approached and spoke to, or even suggesting maybe he has a technique I couldnt necessary learn in a chinese martial art and his japanese martial art (Hard vs hard it usually karate), maybe something I could show (but I am not sure if you dont already know the movesThank you, and good luck in your martial art journeys

Kim Soo Karate is an invaluable asset to the community. The first martial arts school in Texas, one of the first in U.S. since 1968. Credentials off the charts. Cha Yon Ryu is called tae-kwon karate, and is a mixture of various styles including tae-kwon-do, karate, kung-fu, hapkido, ancient swordfighting techniques, etc. based on natural human body movements. They teach lifestyle martial arts for health, longevity and success, rather than to emphasize competition. Their dojang hun is; 1.) Seek perfection of character, 2.) Live the way of Truth 3.) Be Faithful 4.)Endeavor 5.)Respect Others 6.) Refrain from Violent Behavior. They are a martial arts school with the proper perspective of training and competition and they have good values which is probably the most important thing in choosing a martial arts school. They are kind, and gentle folks, very responsible, and also this form is good for all ages, shapes, sizes, etc Good for men women, young and old because being based on natural human body movements it places less strain on joints etc.

I began training at Kim Soo Karate in 1987, and continue to train and now teach there 30 years later. Being able to train under, and learn from, an instructor with 50+ years of experience is an incredibly rare thing. Equally rare is a system which approaches training for its lifelong benefits - physical, mental, and spiritual. Rather than training for competition, Chayon Ryu is about improving ones quality of life. Many students come initially to learn to defend themselves - and do, successfully! - but stay for decades because of the long term benefits of training in a positive environment for all aspects of their life.

Ive been a student of Chayon-Ryu since 1994, and still going strong. I enjoy the atmosphere, and the instructors are top quality. I highly recommend a trial class if you want to learn martial arts without any competitive pressure. You set your own goals and they will strive to help you achieve them. Whether it be to increase overall fitness, weight loss, or self defense.

My family and I have been involved with Chayon-Ryu since 1968. Though we started at the downtown Houston (1615 Clay) location, The Spring Branch location is home now. My father, in his mid-70s, still participates in class twice per week. He wouldnt be able to continue if it wasnt for the deep understanding of the instructors and the natural way teaching method. I highly recommend this school for anyone that wants to learn to apply martial arts to improve their lives.

There are many here today gone tomorrow strip center Karate/Tae Kwon Do schools. Not Kim Soo Karate. Grandmaster Kim and his Son Master Kim are coming up on 50 years of teaching real, traditional martial arts in Houston. There are many high ranking instructors at any given class, unlike other schools that struggle with too few or even one instructor to teach many students of many different skill levels.Inexperienced teachers get students hurt. The student then doesnt want to go back, they want to quit. A good teacher teaches in a manner that their students will not get hurt, will learn and be anxious to continue to come back and move forward. This is Kim Soo Karate. Before coming to the USA in 1968, Grandmaster Kim taught the Korean Presidents bodyguards. He taught our US service men stationed there. He has a lifetime of knowledge to share and teaches the arts that have been taught for hundreds of years. Real, traditional martial art. If you are considering training, at least come by and check out the Dojang, talk with some students and instructors. Meet Grandmaster Kim or Master Kim. They both continue to teach on a regular basis. Take a free lesson. Then look at other schools. I think your choice will be clear. It was for me.

Cha Yon Ryu (Kim Soo Karate) Spring Branch location is where i started well over 30 years ago. I practically grew up at the Dojang. I received nothing less than the most important experience a student can get from a school. GM Kim and Mrs. Kim and Master Kim were family to me and I always think of them even up to this day. I teach Aikido now in the Woodlands but I would not be who I am without my experience at Kim Soo Karate. If you are a student of GM Kim and Master Kim (Sean) than do not quit. if you are thinking of joining a school that teaches the Martial Arts the right way with the right Heart than join Kim Soo Karate. I will always support my first teacher as he is still teaching me.

We originally visited Kim Soo Karate in a search for an activity for our ten year old son. When we visited, Master Sean Kim was so welcoming and and the dojang such an inviting place that I signed up as well, and we are both very happy with our choice. Grandmaster Kim Soos Chayon Ryu system draws from several of the traditional martial arts, but is taught with an emphasis on modern physical safety, longevity and enjoyment. We especially like their emphasis on self-discipline and respect for ancient traditions, but taught with an 21st-century understanding. And Master Kim and his instructors are great with kids--the kids class is a joy to watch! I cant imagine training anywhere else.

How can a review here capture all the positive effects this martial art system has had on my life. I have been a student of Chayon-Ryu for over 25 years. This is a traditional martial arts school - not a club or a place to hang out and try a few tricks/techniques. Injuries are very rare as students and instructors treat each other with respect and patience.I started studying Chayon-Ryu when I was in high school as an almost desperate attempt to end the bullying I experienced for most of my childhood. Chayon-Ryu instilled valuable skills, confidence and life-long friendships into me. Train for more than a couple of years and the benefits, beyond learning how to kick and punch, will pour forth into your life. And if you have any children interested in learning karate, Master Sean Kim is FANTASTIC. I have never seen someone so great with kids. He is super patient and is so good at teaching the youngest of the students self-control and discipline. Try a few lessons out and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

I have been training in Chayon-Ryu for going on 12 years now. One of the best experiences I have had has been going to the Dojang in Houston and training. The atmosphere is very welcoming and open. Everyone was very helpful. The instructors took a genuine interest of me and my group. We were there for rank tests a few years ago. I truly believe that Chayon-Ryu is the best martial art in the world. The level and quality of instruction, control, etiquette, and philosophy are unparalleled. I would encourage anyone curious about instruction in a traditional art to check it out.
