Weve visited the centre on and off for almost ten years and have always really enjoyed it. They have interesting art exhibitions - we once bought a piece which we still treasure - and other fun events, like todays Father Frost Fair, a Christmas fair with some fun items and homemade crafts for sale. Everyone is always very friendly and most events are free. Its only small so dont expect to spend hours at an exhibition but its always worth dropping by when youre in the area.

We had the good fortune to work with the team at the OurTexas Russian organization during last years Turkish festival that was held downtown Houston. They were very energized, helpful and had some super ideas. Their participation included a full display of the beautiful Russian culture and entertained the participants with some very talented dancers. They have a wonderful office building with many beautiful artifacts. We hope we can collaborate with them in the near future. Visit them if you ever get a chance.

Russian Cultural Center located in the heart of Houston museum district and definitely looks bigger from the inside, where the real authentic Russian art is. Fine photography, oil paintings, sculpture, mixed-media, every time something different and exciting. Our every visit is highly interesting and educating. Art prices are affordable.

Great place to visit! Not just some Russian popular traditional things like Matreshka nesting dolls etc, but unique photo and art exhibitions, concerts of modern singers / songwriters, tango classes etc. Every time I am in Houston I try to stop by there to see what is new and what is on walls. Like it a lot! And they do have some cool graffiti outside of the building worse taking picture with.

I have had a great experience with the Russian Cultural Center and the Russian language class. I am now starting my 4th year of Russian language class at the Russian Cultural Center . The classes are very small and intimate for individual attention. The instructor is a native Russian very disciplined in the correct grammar of the Russian language. Also, there are interesting and enjoyable activities sponsored by the Russian Cultural Center such as the always changing art exhibits and festivals.

From out in the burbs, the Russian Cultural Center is a very good reason to brave the Houston freeways (?) on an evening or afternoon to:- listen to live music: ( often with Hans Graf & Houston symphony colleague, other times with groups from across the pond or Austin).- watch a Russian movie:- participate in a Russian current events discussion (usually via the documentary film festival):-meet visiting novelists, poets, singers and journalists;-drop in on an exhibit opening ( paintings or photos) with a Russian theme, of course.- catch up on the local news (Nash Texas) conveniently displayed by the door.I try to speak as little English as I can so as not to break the magic or the bubble of Russian cultural transport come all the way to the Big H and its Museum District.RCC: What would Bissonnet be without it?

The other day I visited the Russian cultural center of the city of Houston, USA, I am in shock, as if I returned 30 years ago when I worked in a museum in a small town in Russia. I was struck by everything, first of all, the people who work there, who are unfamiliar with the rules of etiquette, who do not know how to listen, who show with their whole appearance that they were torn away from very important matters, who are in a hurry, who do not offer those who came to sit down, drink some water It was said that they had not lived in Russia for a long time, it was possible not to talk about it, it was immediately noticeable, the demeanor, the appearance as in Soviet times. Even a small director poses as a big boss.Madame Sophia reminded me of a retired provincial teacher, diligently speaking English, with a very correct Russian pronunciation. Who talks to the guilty students.Apparently, living in America for many years could not change their mentality. Given their age, what was laid down for them in their youth in Soviet times cannot be changed. I think that they work on a voluntary basis, for free, no one can force them to do this, if this work is so burdensome for them, you can always refuse it. There will be people who will happily work there! I was with an American relative, and I was very ashamed in front of him. Before this visit, he had a completely different idea of the Russians, based on previous communication experience. I think that I would not want to visit this cultural center again, my friends, Russians and Americans, too.I didnt expect to face this in 2017. I also visit Russia regularly, but everything has changed there long ago. I havent come across such an attitude there for a long time. P.S. About myself. In order not to get the impression that I am prejudiced against women 50+, I am 59 years old, lived abroad for 20 years, not in the USA, higher education, historian. The daughter lived in America for 10 years. I visit America often, 1-2 times a year. This situation caught on so much that, for the first time in my life, I decided to write.
