I have been training for ten years now and have been a member and visitor at numerous gyms during that time. I can say with confidence this is a quality gym with quality training partners. There are people of all different skill levels and training goals which makes this a great place to learn and grow whether you are a beginner or someone with years of experience. This place is a haven for me and I am happy to call it my home gym.

Ive never taken martial arts before and have a knee injury, but Brian worked with me on both. He is extremely accommodating and friendly. Everyone taking classes is open minded, which makes training a lot more fun. I would highly recommend taking classes here, especially beginners.

Brian is a phenomenal instructor! Not only does he have a ton of experience through his impressive competitive career, he is also able to share his knowledge in a clear and concise way. With a very patient and detailed orientated teaching style. I have seen him teach everybody from kids to adults very well. He has definitely helped my game a lot! I highly recommend anybody in the area check out Brian and his academy!

I am so thankful we found Alliance BJJ!We have 2 daughters, one is in the teens class and one is in the eagles class. And they always look forward to practice. The friends they’ve made and the skills they have learned are amazing and a blessing.Brian does a great job of making lessons fun, but also encourages them to hold themselves accountable in their actions on and off the mat.I’ve also been taking the adult classes. And being a smaller female, I appreciate the coaches and the guys for not “tossing me around” with their strength, but also not going so light that I’m not benefitting from the lesson. They make me work for it, and it’s awesome!! I really feels like I have a bunch of big brothers here! Every single one of them are fantastic!!Seriously, this place is the best. And it’s very family focused. There are so many families here with kids in the kids classes and one or both parents in the adult class.I can’t recommend this place enough!

I would highly recommend Olsons Judo Academy if you have any interest in learning a Martial Art. I am new to structured training and Brian, along with his team of instructors, have been awesome. They are incredibly skilled, patient, and motivating. The other students have all been welcoming and willing to help me progress. If you have any questions or interest, do what I did & reach out to Brian to schedule a time to swing by to check out a class.

Cant say enough good about this Academy. Been members for over a year now and from the family atmosphere to the knowledge to the support of the coaches its the best gym I have been to or could imagine. Brian and the coaches has helped keep my son (who is in the kids class) and I (in the adults class) motivated and driven on our BJJ journey. Learn something new everyday and they help push me past where I thought I could go. Brian is always there with words of encouragement and coaching to make everyone better. Would recommend a million times if I could! If you are thinking about starting BJJ or are from out of town and need a place to train...Alliance St. Croix should be the place!

I started taking my two sons here when gyms were closed by the MN dictator. The classes are such high quality, and my kids enjoy them so much, that I dont mind the long drive. The gym is warm (not literally--actually its a bit cold temp-wise) and welcoming, and its made me question my general idea that people in Wisconsin are just the same as Minnesotans in terms of friendliness (because they seem friendlier).Anyway, Brian is an amazing teacher and so good with my kids. His background is also in judo, so its like a two in one class and theyre already learning new things even after 3 years of jiu jitsu in other gyms.

This has been one of the most positive experiences of my life. Sure, I got in better shape but that’s the least of what comes with BJJ. I found discipline, confidence, and a brotherhood of guys who all strive to be better. That comes from the top down, Brian’s leadership. No ego, just excellence.

I’ve been absent to training for many years and they made it easy coming back and fun.In a short time techniques taught and their style of instruction has improved where I left off giving me much greater control and my mobility has improved quickly.Highly recommend the academy to those starting, wanting to get back into it, and for protective service employees.

Dropped in here for a period of time while the gym that I train at was temporarily closed. Alliance BJJ St Croix is a great place to learn and train jiu jitsu. Friendly laid back atmosphere, great instruction, and tough rolls. Coach Brian does a great job with his students, focusing on technique and the small details that make a big difference. Overall a well structured environment for students of all ages and skill level.

Coach Brian from Alliance is an international-level (Olympian) competitor in Judo, and a black belt in BJJ. He has created a positive training atmosphere for kids and adults, without compromising the high-level competitiveness of the sport. He is professional, courteous, and knowledgeable and that shows in the quality of his students. Individuals looking for BJJ done the right way need to check out Alliance St. Croix.

I am a brown belt that has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 10yrs. In that ten years I have had the pleasure of working with some great high level Professors. Professor Brian Olson is second to none. Not only is his jiu Jitsu incredible but he also is a three time Judo Olympian. He really takes time to be there for his students to make sure your Jiu Jitsu journey is where you want it to be and where you want it to go! I highly recommend St. Croix Alliance Jiu Jitsu!!

It’s rare to get the opportunity to work with a 4X Olympian. Brian has a great teaching style and has the ability to adapt to all levels and experience. If you are new to BJJ/Judo or a seasoned competitor you will benefit from both Brian’s and the teams experience.

This business is top-notch. They provide high quality education for multiple forms of martial arts. My favorite training sessions are when students from the Alliance Minneapolis location hop the river and have a great work out with us. The Alliance community is one of a kind, and I’m glad that no matter where I will go, I will always have a Jiu Jitsu home and family.

Amazing place and the best coach/teaxher Ive ever had. Brian is kind, thoughtful, patient, through, and knowledgeable. This is a place that any and everyone should come and check out if you are wanting to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and or Judo. Also, no need to feel intimidated. Every new student gets the first 3 classes as one on one sessions with coach Brian. Just think about that and what kind of gym/person this is. He is a 4 time Olympian and he still takes the time with every student to do 3 one on one training sessions at no additional cost. This is because he wants everyone to be as prepared as possible. Ive been going 3-5 times a week since Ive joined and every single day I learn something new and grow, not only as a martial artist but as a person as well.

Ladies (and men)! If youre looking for a place to gain some confidence, muscle, and skill, look no further. Coach Olson is not only knowledgeable and skilled but also very talented as a teacher. The culture he has built at Olsons Brazilian jiu-jitsu/Judo Academy is extremely encouraging and focused on learning. I had no previous experience in martial arts, but it didnt take long for me to feel comfortable and capable. I have such a great time at each class that I dont even realize Im getting an awesome workout in too!

My two teenage sons and I have been training at Olson’s since January 2020. Realizing my oldest son would be soon leaving for college, I saw this as an opportunity for us to spend more time together. Admittedly, I was a little intimidated starting jiu jitsu at my age...now in my 50’s. Yet, 6 months into it, I have become an evangelist for Olson’s Martial Arts and jiu jitsu, overall. I only wish I had started much sooner. Brian Olson has earned my utmost trust and respect. Of course, the fact that he is a 4 x Olympian in Judo certainly speaks to his dedication and pursuit of his personal goals. It’s rare to have an opportunity to meet an Olympian...let alone a 4-time Olympian. Yet, it is his humility, patience, and constant encouragement that has helped me and my sons thrive. As a father, I have seen a dramatic improvement in the respect, support, and encouragement my boys offer each other...and myself. I think that has a lot to do with the fine art of jiu jitsu...and the culture Brian has fostered in his academy. If you are looking for a new challenge and personal growth...If you are looking for a way to get healthy and achieve your fitness goals...If you are looking for something that will positively impact your children for a lifetime...reach out to Brian through the website or phone...you won’t regret it. It’s a decision your future self may reflect upon as a significant catalyst for an improved quality of life.

Training at “Alliance BJJ St. Croix” under BBJ black-belt and Olympic Judoka Brian Olson has been an amazing experience and has helped me not only lose weight but is helping me regain my confidence back after a major injury. While serving in the Army, I sustained a severe injury to my left ankle that required surgery and years of rehab. I had to stop doing many of the physical tasks that I loved (like martial arts, weightlifting and running) and gradually gained weight over the years while attending college. After years of recovery, I decided I needed to regain my confidence and get back into shape – to do so, I decided to re-start my martial arts training at Alliance BJJ St. Croix, and it was one of the best decisions of my life.Since starting, I’ve lost weight and I’m gradually starting feeling like my old self. Throughout the process Brain has been texting me once a week to monitor my self-development, give advice and cheer me on. I’ve never had a martial arts instructor care so much about his students personal and martial arts growth. Brian’s caring nature has created a school culture where everyone is warm and welcoming to newcomers, where every senior student is eager to help a newcomer like me – with no judgment. In addition to the school’s amazing culture, this is some of the best BJJ instruction you will find in the Twin Cities metro. They go into extensive detail with every move set, position, and drilling – which is no surprise since you’re receiving instruction from a former Olympic martial artist.I can’t recommend Brian Olson’s: “Alliance BJJ St. Croix” enough – give the school a try and I guarantee that it will change your life and bring your grappling abilities to the next level.--Corey Carter
