- Hygiene was hit or miss, both in the pool and other facilities. During our final lesson, the water was so murky that you could barely see the lines in the pool (photo attached). The bathrooms were so neglected that we usually opted to wait until we got home to change. Even at peak-pandemic, hand sanitizers and hand soap dispensers sat empty for weeks at a time.- Safety was another concern for me. We were comfortable in a 1:1 lesson, but some classes were larger with teachers dividing their attention. The lifeguards frequently had headphones in and were actively engaged with their phones, and were sometimes not even present at our evening lessons even with a full pool (photo of empty stand attached).- Scheduling became a nightmare towards the end of our time here. We had a weekly scheduled 1:1 swim lesson. During our last month, two regular lessons were cancelled (one after we arrived at the pool due to a no-show sub, and the other in advance because they couldn’t find a sub.) We scheduled two makeup lessons, and BOTH were cancelled after we arrived due to hygiene issues in the pool. So, a total of four cancelled lessons in about a six week period, three of those cancelled after we arrived, and we were only offered a $30 refund.- The pool where lessons are held is small and often overbooked. Sometimes there would be so many kids in the pool that there was no room for a lesson, so my son would be taken to the larger lane pool and would have to wear a life jacket for the entire lesson even though he can swim independently. It defeated the purpose for us a bit.- Customer service was what really killed our experience. After showing up for a lesson and finding out that it was cancelled (see above, a frequent issue), I sent an email to the director of the swim academy asking for a refund of that lesson. The response I got was angry and highly inappropriate. I spoke discreetly with a few staff members who confirmed this is a frequent problem - the swim academy director is married to the owner and often causes issues with her unpredictable outbursts and rude correspondence. There are dozens of other reviews in local neighborhood/mom groups complaining about her behavior towards parents who try to bring up legitimate issues. It’s a shame, because we loved my son’s teacher as well as all the makeup teachers we had over the past couple of months. Unfortunately we just can’t in good conscience continue to ignore all the red flags at this location.

I’m happy i finally came here to read reviews. I have called numerous times to get information about swim lessons that is not on the website. I have asked someone, through their email, to call me numerous times. No on has given me a call. I called the number provided, left a voicemail, and a week later i still haven’t received a call back. Jen, who i have been emailing with, was very rude stating i haven’t called and that they do answer the phones. I called 4 times after she left that email and still didn’t get an answer. The main number for Nomad is always answered but unfortunately by people who have no information about the aquatics program. Now i come here to see that I’m not the only one having a bad experience and that the place is gross.

I used to love coming to this facility for exercise classes, swimming, etc and was a proud member. But after about 2 and a half years ago, or whenever new management took over, Ive never been back, and neither have a lot of other people...even employees. This new management doesnt have the first clue of how to run this business. They literally more than DOUBLED the prior rates and promised an entirely remodeled and up to date facility over the next 6 months to a year. That was almost 3 years ago and the place is still in bad shape and in desperate need of updating. So where did our money go? You dont drastically increase rates like that if you want to keep clientele and be a competitive business. And whats worse, here it is July 2021 and they still havent reinstated exercise classes but they continue to have swimming events and karate. I dont see how they stay in business. Then they change the name thinking that will make a difference. The place needs new management, not a new name.

This place has the worst communication of any business I have ever dealt with. The staff actually present just hand you a piece of paper with a generic email address if you have any questions or issues with swimming lessons and good luck getting anyone to respond to you. They charge you upfront and couldnt care less about your experience after that. During our time there a group of swim instructors quit all at the same time, leaving very few options for lessons and the generic email provided zero answers to multiple inquiries other than excuses. We get it, everyone is short staffed but they figure they already have your money so didnt need to try to provide a solution. They refused to provide a refund even though they could no longer provide the promised swim lessons. They just offer make up classes, yet dont have the instructors to teach them. And the reviews complaining about the cleanliness of the pools and bathrooms are spot on, if you dont believe it, feel free to go check them out for yourself. They seem to spend a lot more time and effort responding to poor reviews online than responding to customer issues to prevent the poor reviews in the first place, that should tell you something.

I would not recommend anyone take swim lessons here. The communication is nonexistent and, they change your instructor whenever they feel like it and then say no refunds. I believe if you pay for an instructor, you should have that instructor. My replacement instructor Evelyn sent me a very rude, and unprofessional text message to my phone when they are not supposed to contact you through text at all.Take swimming lessons elsewhere. Customer service is not their priority. The many negative reviews proves the policies are unclear. The policies are not set in place for the customers they’re set in in place to ensure that the business keeps the money at all costs.

I would love to swim here again, but it appears there are no swimming lanes for members between 3:15-7pm. Ideally, I’d love to do it after work. If a member is paying, all amenities should be available at all times no questions asked. One lane for guests too much to ask during swim team hours?Id also like to add an addendum to the response from the owner. I WAS a paying member, well after I left as an employee under the former ownership. Thus, your reasoning that leaving a review is inappropriate is completely unfounded.Additionally, this review does not violate google terms because I faithfully rated my ‘experience’ at your location. My time gathering information about the unavailability of your lanes is an experience.Additionally, you very tactfully circumvented my original argument that non-swim team members don’t have access to the pool between certain hours. It seems ridiculous that a single lane is not available in the after work hours period for members who are not on the swim team. You tell me to call if I’m having an issue, but I’m LITERALLY telling you what my concern is here IE swim times. If someone here posts at least something negative, you discredit their concern by stating how long they were a member, or state you have “no record” of membership. Please address the core issue

I would just like to share my positive experience with Nomad aquatics for anyone interested in getting their children or grandchildren into swimming lessons. My daughter and son in law put my 2 year olds grandson into swimming lessons at Nomad when they purchased a home that has a pool. They were concerned about his safety around the pool and very soon after he started the lessons, they were relieved at how well he learned his way around the pool and water safety. He is now 8 and on their introductory swim team. Their instructors are very skilled, encouraging and patient as I have watched almost every lesson he has had. And during the current times, the safety measures this facility has maintained throughout this past year is a necessary comfort. I, along with his parents, have been more than pleased with his continued advancements. And he loves going there every week!”

I like the convenience of Nomads facility. Ive been going at different intervals during the last few years due to sickness, but most recently have returned. Having said that, I am quite surprised that showers in the womens locker room is pathetic looking and the faucets (some coming off when turning them on for water flow) in the showers continue to stay out of order! Why is that? Also one of the showers have small Gnats flying around in the middle shower stalls. Why is that? Why are treadmills, and exercise bikes not positioned on the first floor as well as the upper floors of the building. Some members with arthritis related issues find it complicated painful to climb.I hate to see this facility in decline, Its a great place for adults and for children to have swim lessons. Hopefully these issues are taken seriously and taken care ASAP. We need Nomads and the benefits that are offered to the community. Dont want the Health Dept. to condemn the building

I have recently begun working out at NOMAD on a regular basis. I have a lot of wonderful things to say about them. The group fitness instructors are welcoming, friendly, talented, and all around FABULOUS! Every class is fun and provides an excellent workout. The price is right! This gym is less expensive than most other gyms with similar amenities. The front desk staff greets me with a warm hello and quickly learned my name.I really dont mind the older facilities. The showers work. The machines work. A high-quality workout is more important than beautiful facilities. As far as swim lessons, they are great! My son learned to swim here and gained lots of confidence in the water. I hope to sign up my younger daughter soon.Unfortunately, I have to give 3 stars. For months it has bugged me that there is always a television on in the child watch area. I have spoken in person to three people and sent emails through this website. My husband has sent an email to the director and nothing has changed. Our children are to be bombarded by screens for the rest of their lives. A gym should be place of health and wellness. Watching movies for an hour each morning does not fit this model. Staff have told me that it is white noise. If so, they could play music in the background. I have also been told that only educational videos are played. This is not true. Children need face-to-face time with adults and other children. They need to interact, play, problem solve, hear language, and produce language. A television goes against all these needs of young children.I really hope the television will be removed so children can have more time to interact with the adults and other children in the child watch area. The ladies who work in there are very sweet and kind to the children. Id love for my daughter to spend more time playing with these wonderful caretakers and less time bombarded by a screen that I did not choose to provide them. Many Thanks!

I have taken my 6 year old there for swimming for the past year and a half. He has learned to swim and is also learning basic swim techniques. The instructor is so good with him and really knows how to be patient yet strict with a hyper little boy.I also go to the workout classes! Its like a second family everyone in the class talks to one another and has a fun time and the workouts are amazing and there are so many options.

I love my Nomad family. I go here because after all these years the people I work out with have become my friends outside the gym, I like Les Mills workouts and love the instructors- and it’s super convenient to where I live. But.... I wish the owners would invest in and focus on the condition of the fitness side of the facility. It’s in desperate need of remodeling from the bathrooms to the exercise rooms to the relocated weight room. Nomad’s aquatic center seems to be successful but the fitness side needs some TLC - it has the capacity to be a wonderful gym.

There is a lack of hygiene and I am considering that is one of the most important things on a swimming installations. The walls and the floor of the warm swimming pool are very dirty, the looker room and the showers are a mess. For example, parents and visitors use the shoes that they wear outside, and the students walk barefooted for the same floor. That is unhealthy.

*Buyer Beware*I’m not one to ever leave a bad review, but our experience was SO terrible that I have to share in hopes of letting others know who they are dealing with if they enroll their children in the Swim Academy. Jessica, who is currently “managing” the program is incredibly unprofessional, rude, and aggressive. Several other Skybrook residents have shared similar negative reactions with her, so this is not an isolated experience.Despite having a regular instructor assigned to each swim class online, my daughter regularly had a different instructor each week. While the class was always covered by a sub, management does not take into account (or care) about the effect this inconsistency may have on the kids. My daughter was always hesitant to jump in the pool with a new instructor that she did not recognize. After emailing Jessica to ask if the inconsistency with instructors is something likely to continue (along with raising a safety issue with one of the sub instructors-who admitted to me upon pulling my daughter out of the lesson that he didnt know how to teach the Rubber Ducky class), a portion of her outrageous 12-point reply is below.(Instructor name here--blocked for privacy) was offered the lead in the school play and we had to find someone to take over her class. If you have issues with her parents decision to allow her to pursue this academic interest for a short period of time, I would be happy to find out if they wish to hear your parenting tips and your opinion on how their decisions as parents have affected your daughters lessons. Currently we do not have indentured servants and we all worked together to make things work. I found a permanent sub for your class after (instructor name here blocked for privacy) was the sub. However that instructor no-showed - without notice. Out of respect for your time and effort coming to the pool, we were able to find a sub in the moment - who is very qualified and a strong teacher. In the future if you wish for us to wait for you to get to the pool, then cancel it, and send you and the other parents in the classes home with their children, we can discuss this and let them know why this is a change to our policy. This is who you are dealing with if you enroll your child in swim lessons here. I brought my issue up to the General Manager, who was apologetic and embarrassed by the reply. However, Im not confident she has much influence over the program.Avoid this place at all costs! There are plenty of other places that offer a much better experience overall.

This place has gotten really bad, really fast. Pool pump consistently broken. Broken fitness equipped being left for over a month with no indication of when a repair will happen. They have rules for the gym which they never enforce, there always seems to be mostly naked teenagers who wont let anyone else use equipment. Ive even had a group of women refuse to let anyone use any equipment in the whole weight room, when they were only using one machine, stating all machines were in use by them. The worst part, though, is that the staff at nomad DONT CARE. I brought some of these to their attention (multiple staff), and they just shrugged and said there were plenty of other gyms in the area we could go to. So Id take their advice, and stay far away from this gym and go to one of the others in area!

Not such a big deal but not a good idea if you are trying to win my business. Anyway I pay and we get directions to the childcare room. The first thing I notice is how hot the building is and it is only May!!! The childcare room is a small room at the bottom of some stairs. The room was so stuffy!!!The two girls working there had an attitude too. When I walked in they acted like I was a bother. I had already paid $2 for childcare so I decided to proceed to the spin class. The spin class was not only a tight squeeze, the bikes look like they were bought in 1990, and the room had no AC. I could hardly breathe. Needless to say I did not even finish my 3 day trial. I know nothing about their swim section but the gym services were just below par!!! Their rates are as high as YMCA so dont even bother.

Review №52

We have been members at this sorry excuse for a gym for around a year. Here are all the things we have found wrong and why we are moving on:1 - Broken and out-dated exercise equipment. This gym has neglected its treadmill equipment for months. When they finally replaced a couple of units, they did not even bother to include up to date equipment for connecting modern smartphones (the treadmills are incompatible with iPhone 5 and on, and are not at all compatible with Android smartphones). I know that this is not super critical, but it is helpful. Other than that, though, like I said, 3-4 treadmills were inoperable for weeks to months at a time. AND - the treadmill room gets very hot during these summer months.2 - The swimming pool situation is pitiful. As another reviewer mentioned, the pool pump is broken at times, leaving the water nasty and the pool (for kids, beginning swimmers) very dirty. We just came from our last visit to swim there and we saw that there are basically piles of dirt in parts of the pool! I know of city pools that would shut down temporarily to clean everything if this were the case! Absolutely disgusting pool!3 - Again, on swimming - the “new owners” have a schedule for swim lessons, which I can understand. However, on Sundays, there is basically ZERO time for open swimming, and it effectively means that if you want to teach your kids to swim you most nearly have to purchase the swim lessons. We have gone their many times and it is always, always difficult to get in any uninterrupted swimming with our youngest son as we try to teach him. It is usually the case where the lifeguards ask you to get out of a perfectly open lane, that is marked as reserved for lessons, and yet the lane sits there with no one using it for a half hour at a time! After our latest problem in this regard, it was the final straw and we have left the gym. I am fighting to get our money back for half of July, as well, I am so angry!I cannot comment on other aspects of the gym, exactly, but others have said that the racket ball courts are nasty and have condensation on the walls, probably mold, as well.Overall, it is not worth the $80/month for a family of four. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for better options at Huntersville Aquatics and the YMCA. You will be glad you did!
