As a university student who regularly hears about the excellent Dance Marathon program at UIHC, I was a bit surprised by the lack of resources available for my condition.

Unlike their TV ads, the level of care that they provide on the intake process is simply unethical. Even though I was, for years, a former patient, I could not get hooked up with my former doc because, according to them, time had run out. So I did their phone intake process in late April, 2021. I did not hear back from them, so both emailed and wrote a letter to my former UIHC doc, but got no response. Finally, last week (30 June, 2021), I got a phone call from an intake person. So that initial process took over 60 days. Worse, I was informed that the earliest appt that I could get would be in January 2022... a full 6 months after I first contacted their psychiatry department. This is simply very poor care. Ive been noticing more UIHC feel-good commercials -- for their personal level of care -- on You Tube. But that is simply marketing and did not match my experience. Imagine if I had an acute need (which I very well could have)? Pretty bad.

I am giving this the Iowa Psychiatry inpatient unit at the hospital 1 star because of how the horrible the facility and staff were for a loved one of mine. For someone who wants to physically stay in shape they had one broken bike. There was a huge disconnect between the staff, patient, and family where they provided no guidance or compassion. After a discharge they did not provide any useful recommendations on the next steps. There was no services such as group therapy or anything allowed on the weekend. This place needs some serious reorganization to best help their patients and families.

This is a very disgusting place. These doctors are not out to help you, theyre out to antagonize you and dismiss you and probably put people in their psych ward upstairs if they can. Worst experience Ive ever had with therapeutic professionals. Steer clear for your own sake. I was told I cant see the same guy next time because hes absorbing a different guys schedule who is leaving today. Just horrible all around. Im ADHD for the record.

This is absolutely the worst patient practiced I have ever experienced. I was misdiagnosed, put on medicine which has made my life miserable and riddled with side effects, have now high blood pressure, gained 40 lbs, high blood sugar, and muscle aches and spasms. I have been refused multiple times a second opinion, and am forced to take an injection without getting to take medication by self. Also, the doctors and staff refuse to transfer my treatment to the county I reside in. I had to begin to record doctor visits because they didn’t listen at all. This is not my personality to speak ill of such a place, but if its help you need seek somewhere else. Also, they have called the sheriff that came to my place of employment because I rescheduled days ahead of time an appointment causing me to miss two weeks of work. Absolutely the worst treatment I have and will ever receive. They neglect to better themselves by reading proposition 22 and educate themselves on todays standing on mental health published by mental health america. Recently the doctor told me she is only keeping me on this medication because of scrutiny and because of insurance purposes. I am a business owner and this has ruined character I have built up for a success. Disappointment does not describe the scrutiny of the last year of my life due to the doctors ad staff and the University of Iowa, which disappoints me being a prior student and athlete at the university of Iowa. Thank you- Robby StormI recently was committed from my out patient service provider to inpatient, causing me to miss work for more than a week, this Offer was done prematurely due to me having a future scheduled appointment I was adhering to. While at the emergency room I was hand cuffed treated poorly by doctors and administrators. They made a mistake and had given my personal belongings with 600 dollars in cash to another person and there standards have continued to spiral down. I would avoid what seems to be this struggling unit with in the U of Iowa.
