I had my first driving lesson with Tanner and it went super great! he was very patient and kind throughout the entire drive. he helped me gain more confidence in my driving skills by pointing out the mistakes i made in a reassuring manner and by praising the things i did correctly. he also introduced me to concepts like SMOG for merging and gave me great tips i can use in the future. overall Tanner was a great instructor who i would definitely want to drive with again!thank you varsity driving academy and Tanner!

Tanner was a great instructor for my first behind the wheel lesson! We covered a lot while still being very safe. He’s super nice and does not make the drive stressful. He definitely helped me improve in the short 2 hours!

Ed is an AMAZING driving instructor. In the 2 hours we spent together he taught me everything I need to know to be safe and comfortable on the road. Ed introduced me to S.M.O. I just had my first driving lesson with Tanner. He was very friendly and instructive on beginning how to drive. We started out slowly, and once I gained enough skills/confidence, we began testing out different scenarios. I was astounded by Tanners expertise and good tips; without previous driving experience, I was able to drive on the main road after about 45 minutes. Tanner also pointed out some of my errors (stopping too close to cars in front of me, driving a bit near other lanes, etc.) so I would not commit them in the future. Overall, a very nice experience. I would definitely want to drive with Tanner again!

This place is hands-down the best place to learn how to drive. The instructors are all nice, (particularly Kam, Hi Kam!!!!) and all know how to drive. They gave good advice, and made everything crystal clear. I passed my drivers test first try with their teaching under my belt. I even took my test in a difficult area, and their teachings made it a cakewalk. Long story short, this place is amazing and I cant recommend enough that you come here if learning how to drive.

Hong Tran was my instructor and he was very good. He had very good advise on what to do and gave me a lot of tricks to do better on my test. He was also very personable and good to have a conversation with which made the whole experience more enjoyable.

Ed was very patient and kind with me during my first session of driving practice. He started off by showing me the basic things in the car such as the windshield wipers and turn signals, as well as showing me hand signals. We started off in the loop in Woodbridge, then he recognized that I was ready to move on. We then practiced on the major streets after he taught me things like S.M.O.G. and how to properly stop at intersections. Afterwards, we headed on to the freeway to further practice S.M.O.G and to get a feel for the freeway. He reminded me that I was doing a good job periodically throughout the lesson, and if I made a mistake he kindly let me know how and when to fix it. I would definitely recommend him and had a good time learning.

I drove with Varsity for two hours and afterward, I felt much more confident in my driving skills. Specifically, my instructor, Ed did an amazing job helping me become a better driver. He was very understanding, encouraging and calm, and that helped me feel relaxed while driving. I actually had a lot of fun driving as a beginner. Ed also provided a lot of great tips for driving such as following S.M.O.G when doing lane changes, making sure to scan intersections, how to u-turn, and other basic driving skills that was necessary to know. If I made a mistake, he provided constructive criticism, which helped me to improve the specific skill. When I did something right, he would let me know that I was doing a good job. By doing this, I am able to take mental notes of how that skill is performed correctly. Overall, my driving lesson went a lot better than I expected, being my first lesson with varsity. In addition, Ed’s presence and teaching played a major role in the lesson being phenomenal.

Ed was my instructor and he was very patient with me. It was my first time ever going on main roads that I had been scared of before and he helped me through it and taught me all the things I needed to know. Ed was able to make me feel comfortable while driving instead of me being scared of it.

Ed was really patient with my driving lesson today and I appreciate that. Ed taught me many things on how to be a good driver. I was happy that Ed talked about the most important things about driving. It was my first time on the freeway and Ed was really patient about how I drove on the freeway. My first driving session with Varsity was terrific. Ed, my instructor, did a fantastic job of both teaching me all the necessary fundamentals of driving, as well as making me feel at ease (while still being attentive) throughout the entire session. Since this was my first time ever driving, we worked on very basic fundamentals like understanding each function of the car (mirrors, turn signals, transmission, etc.). We then began slowly making our way around my neighborhood and getting comfortable making both left and right turns. Anytime I would brake or accelerate too suddenly, Ed did a great job of reminding me what the appropriate correction was. He would even remind me not to say/feel “sorry” despite my constant impulse to apologize after each small error, which was very constructive and reassuring. We worked our way towards driving out on public roads soon after. From there, I practiced how to approach making right turns, slowing down the vehicle when coming to a stop, checking the bike lane, when to completely stop before turning depending on the light, making lane changes, performing left turns, and making U-Turns. When Ed saw that I was doing well at certain actions, he would give me slightly more advanced ones to work on as we continued (like performing a U-Turn at a more narrow intersection than the one I had previously done). This both reassured me that I was doing a good job, but also taught me how to approach more challenging situations, because driving is a such a dynamic activity in itself. Overall, I am very happy with how the session went, and I would strongly recommend Ed for any future students who plan on doing Varsity Driving.

Ed was a fantastic driving instructor. He was constantly on top of what I needed to do and thoroughly explained the rules of the road. He made the driving experience very comfortable and was quickly able to notice what I needed to work on. Ed allowed me to drive on the freeway for the first time and kept me very relaxed. In addition to this he helped me to make better lane changes by following the acronym SMOG. Overall this experience was very helpful and really helped to improve my driving technique. Before driving with Ed, I had very little experience driving on main roads and navigating through intersections. I was only able to drive in lone parking lots at best. After going over the rules of the road with Ed I now feel more confident than before and more knowledgeable. Even before driving in my neighborhood he went over all the tools in the car that I may use, making me feel more comfortable. After some time getting used to driving and making turns in the residential area he eased me into the main roads. To anyone who is still learning to drive I highly recommend Ed as a driving instructor.Thanks Ed 👍🏼

Ed was a phenomenal driving instructor, and I learned so much from him! Although I was already somewhat familiar with driving, Ed helped correct some minor errors I would make quickly and clearly to help improve my driving. He also taught me S.M.O.G for changing lanes and always gave direct instructions. He taught me to scan intersections and be an alert and safe driver. I had a two hour lesson with Ed today and I feel so much more confident about my driving. We went over what I had been struggling with on residential roads until I felt confident. And then we went on the freeway for an hour getting used to it because I had never been, but I feel so confident now. And He was constantly on top of what I was doing, and providing helpful corrections to improve my driving. Very professional and helpful. 5/5 experience.

Ed was my coach for 4/6 of my driving lessons and he really helped encourage me to the point I am at today! On my first lesson I was too afraid to even drive in the parking lot and now a lot of our lessons were spent on the freeway! Ed was an amazing coach! He made me feel comfortable and confident while driving while also making sure I was safe. With him, I was able to overcome a lot of my fears about driving. One of my biggest fears was learning to drive out of my residential area. Ed was a perfect instructor. My lesson with him went flawlessly. He taught me and reminded me of the SMOG acronym and also gave me tips about the DMV driving test. He was a polite, patient, and knowledgeable instructor that was able to not only teach me, but communicate with me and also build up my confidence. Ed from Varsity Driving Academy was a fantastic instructor. Before my first lesson, my only experience driving was in a parking lot, which to put it mildly, was a big fail. So I was surprised that within the first hour, I was driving in my neighborhood and by end of lesson, I was driving all over Irvine on roads with speed limits of 50 mph. For sure, I am requesting Ed for my 2nd and 3rd lessons as well. Thank you Ed!

Today was my first time driving on the public roads. Although nervous at first, my instructor Ed was very understanding and patient with me. We went over many things, and was especially patient with me while I was making my right turns, which was my weakness. Third Lesson with HongI was satisfied with my lesson today. Hong was very simple yet efficient in his teaching which allowed for easy to follow instructions. He helped correct mistakes and habits that I had developed in order to keep me safe in the future. I will be recommending him to my younger sister when she begins driving coming up.

I took two driving lessons- one from Don and one from Ed- two days before my driving test. They were both informative, patient, and gave good constructive advice. They were able to pinpoint exactly what I needed to improve on and helped me fix my mistakes very close to my test. I’m grateful to them for helping me pass my test with ease!

This is my first time driving with varsity drivers academy and although I was a little nervous at the start, my driver, Ed, helped calm my nerves. He taught me a lot about U-turns, changing lanes, etc. He was very calm and knew when to start conversation and when to let me drive. I highly recommend him!

Ed was a great instructor. Coming from outside the US, I was nervous to drive for the first time here. Ed covered everything important about California roads in our class! He gives good constructive feedback. Kam came out for my second driving lesson. He was super knowledgeable, and he taught me many great tips. My driving improved tremendously after working with him!

He has a good sense of humor that made driving fun, and he provided a detailed handout that went over all the specifics that would be on the driving test. Kam was very concise and clear when giving instructions and made sure I was always comfortable with what I was doing. I would 10/10 recommend him to any other new drivers!

I had my first lesson with Hong today and I was pretty nervous at first, but after a couple minutes I was totally comfortable driving the car. He’s very communicative and helps you when you need it. I had my second lesson with instructor Kam, and he really went above and beyond. In two hours, we went over parallel parking, freeway runs, lane changes in heavy traffic, u-turns, and so much more. Every time I couldn’t do something very well, for example right turns, we would do them over and over again until I got them right. He patiently went over the steps as many times as I needed to hear them, and he had also prepared many papers (that he made on his own) with step by step procedures on how to park or how to proceed in an intersection. I felt much more confident after the two hours. Thank you Kam!

I was fortunate to have Hong Tran as a teacher and I was really appreciative of how he went above and beyond the minimum requirements to help me gain more experience. I am thankful for the experience and hope to get my next lesson with him again.

Ed was a very informative and positive teacher. A good way to get to know what exactly the drivers test will expect from you and getting overall driving experience.

Ed was a very good coach! For my first time ever driving on the road, he made me feel very comfortable with it and helped me a lot. He was great with explaining things and directing me. He was very supportive when I did good with my driving. It was a nice, easy ride. Great teacher, I recommend Ed :)

My instructor, Hong, did a great job explaining everything I needed to know in detail as well as provide me additional skills beyond his requirements to ensure I feel comfortable not only for the driving test, but for the future as a whole.
