I’ve been taking lessons at Brookside Guitars with Sophia for over a year now and this place is phenomenal. I have learned so much in my lessons and feel like they are really customized to my personal goals with guitar. Sophia is an amazing instructor and would highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn a new musical instrument or improve their current skill set. While I’ve only taken lessons with Sophia, I’ve also met some of the other instructors and they have all been so nice and welcoming. Ryan has been great in helping me fix and improve my guitar. These lessons are amazing and I highly recommend Brookside Guitars.

Great place. Worked with the owner Ryan Wurtz for several years before going to college. I learned more than I ever could have imagined. They also have a wealth of instruments and equipment available.

Our daughter takes guitar lessons with Sophia. She’s been great. Knowledgeable and patient and our daughter has learned a lot from her. Very helpful and friendly staff. Much more the environment that appeals to our teen daughter than her previous place.Although I see students of all ages here.

I’ve been taking lessons from Ryan for a year now, and I am slowly but surely becoming a master guitar player! 😀I had zero guitar playing experience before coming to BKS Guitars.Ryan’s teaching style is perfect for beginners because of his ability to communicate the fundamentals while offering encouragement to improve, which is critical at the beginning stages. He is a talented musician and teacher. I wish I would have started much much sooner!

I’ve been taking violin lessons with Adam for over a year- Adam is an expert musically- he has a gift for guiding his students in areas of their strengths; and at the same time challenging them to be strong in the fundamentals. Great teacher, great experience- and speaking from the perspective of an Adult learner, finding the right studio and the right teacher has made all the difference.

I suppose that Brookside Guitars is a neighborhood guitar shop, but Ive never really thought of it that way. We actually drive 50 minutes round-trip every week to the studio for my daughters lesson, so its not near my neighborhood at all. We first started going just to have my daughter try guitar as a summer activity. It was supposed to be temporary, but now weve been hooked for two years, and I cant imagine not being there. My daughter started with guitar lessons, then moved to guitar AND piano lessons at one point. The owner, Fed, is just the nicest guy you could ever meet, and its very obvious he created Brookside Guitars for his love of music and people. I never feel like hes doing this job as his job – its really to share the love of music with others. He never rushes the lessons and always has a calm, happy presence. Its kind of our moment to relax each week. My daughter is always laughing and smiling, and I cant think of a better environment for her lessons. It was kind of funny that someone asked me today, Arent there any other places you could go closer to home? Sure, but why would I? Five stars, definitely.

My daughter has been taking ukulele lessons with Ryan for 2 1/2 years and he is the perfect teacher for her. His laid-back and encouraging style works well for our family. The shop is inviting and the ukulele we purchased is a great instrument. When there were problems with the supplier sending the incorrect bags, Ryan stayed on top of things until we had the correct one.

I’ve been with Ryan at Brookside Guitars for 3+ years. I love taking guitar lessons there. He is very knowledgeable about all kinds of playing styles (from country to rock, soul to jazz). Laid back style and fun to learn. A wonderful guitar shop in the heart of Brookside!

I love this place! Ryan is a knowledgeable and patient teacher and I’ve learned so much in the short time I’ve been taking lessons. I think I started in November of 2017 and I’m already able to play about 8 songs. Some of them I can even sing along to. It’s going so much better than I imagined it would and I’m so glad I found this place and this teacher. Also very affordable!

Ive always played one instrument or another my whole life so Ive had a lot of music teachers from all backgrounds and every level of expertise, novice to a retiree from the New York Philharmonic. Ive never had anyone so knowledgeable and patient at the same time as Fed. Hes played everywhere and seems to know everyone but hes as down to earth as anyone Ive ever met. Hes honest, hes keeps things fun, and I learn something new every time I see him. Any question you have about music hes the one you ask, hell give you a straight answer. Any equipment you need or any problem your having with equipment hes always willing to help. What else can I say, hes awesome.

For the past three years (since my daughter was in Kindergarten), we have been taking lessons from Fed. They are fun, instructive and Fed does a great job customizing them to your musical interest. We highly recommend talking to them about lessons or equipment. You wont be disappointed.

Stopped by today to look at some guitars. There was a CLOSED sign on the door. I opened the door and said, Anyone home?. A guy said they no longer sell guitars, only give guitar lessons. Would be nice if they would update their website so people like me dont waste a trip to their store!

Ryan is building an amazing guitar store and community in Brookside. The new electric guitars he’s stocking from Reverend and D’Angelico are so cool— great to finally have these in KC. We need strong boutique guitar stores in KC, and BKS is stepping up. I have been taking lessons from Ryan for a while and I appreciate his patience, and his encouragement.

Astounding. The growth of the shop and the staff over the last couple of years attests to Feds incredible talent at capturing the creative imagination of budding musicians. My two boys, aged 11 and 15, take lessons from him, and their experience has been positive at every step along the path. Congratulations, Fed, on doing it right.
