This is amazing! Im in 6th grade, Crystal, and this school is the BEST school Ive ever been to! It educates you really well AND gets you ready for college! And it really isnt cramped! Next year, all of the middle schoolers would be going to a new school that has STEAM in it! And its all thanks to this school! Thanks a million for letting me into this school because Ill never regret being in it!

The school is by far the worst district I never put my children in. We have lived in multiple states and my children have attended multiple schools this one by far is the worst. My daughter was sexually assaulted in class by a little boy showing his genitals to her and nothing was done about it. I later found out by way of other parents that a little boy the same age its the one that showed his genitals to my daughter. Where is the justice my daughter is still in class with this little boy and she tells me she just sees what he did and its hard for her to concentrate. I went to the district director Nancy Talbot hoping to get some revolution, this lady made me a better line of BS then the alleged vice principal. If you can send your child to another school I highly suggest you do do not send them to discovery a place of favoritism and bias

Overall, I believe the environment has good intentions, but horrible execution by default of lack-luster leadership (guess you could say that for the district as well). The founding principal of Discovery has very limited leadership skills, and clearly has low expectations for the K-5 students, and expects the world (and then some) of his lemmings-- err, fellow staff members. His pride and joy is the STEM Academy, and he is leaving mid year (Jan. 2016) to head the new district STEM Academy. Under new leadership, this school has the ability to function, but that depends on the ongoings of the school district as well. Essentially, the principal is more focused on PR and what the school looks like to outsiders, rather than items of substance (i.e., curriculum development, training teachers and staff, professional courtesy and involvement). He is also the king of delegation-- when he doesnt want to work with families, staff, and/or students, he has the curriculum coach, vice principal, or district rep takeover. I wish I could be more positive about his leadership and impact on the school, but I cannot support someone who shows little care for ~80% of his schools students, families, and staff. Poor knowledge and implementation of Positive Behavioral Support leads to inconsistency and frustration amongst the teachers and fellow staff in charge of the TK-5. Many students (this year and previously) were never seen by the principal, and were either shuffled off to the dedicated and over-worked vice principal (Mrs. Greaux), or were sent back to class with no consequences or follow-up from Dr. Glatfelter. Piggy-backing off of my PBIS comment. Too much focus on being innovative in STEM and Project-Based learning (of which there is little support and resources in the TK-4th grades), and less focus on effectively implementing Positive Behavior Support from Dr. Glatfelter. PBIS has the ability to help create caring, compassionate, and empathetic students, but Discovery needs to put more effort in training its teachers about the system, and the admin needs to follow through and be present. I advise looking into Lincoln Elementary (if you must stay in LancSD), as the teachers and new admins are dedicated, and just wonderful educators.
