Rarely will anyone find a place like VAS. At VAS, not only am I able to pursue my love for art, but also learn how to face and overcome challenges. In addition, besides learning about the technicalities of drawing and painting, I learned how to see and observe, which I believe is the most essential skill alongside successfully translating ones vision onto a paper.I truly value the relationship I was able to build with Ms. Helena Min as she is—hands down—one of the best mentors I’ve ever had. She deeply cares about her students and truly gives insightful advices. With that being said, whenever I am at VAS, I lose track of time because I am able to do what I love. I believe that’s the kind of environment anyone will be able to experience at this place.

I am a former VAS student. This year I got into my dream school in Otis, digital media major with the presidential scholarship of $ 23,000 yearly. I got in sophomore year so the total scholarship till Senior year is $69,000. There are many things I would love to say about VAS, but I want to keep it clean and simple for anyone who is thinking about going to VAS or looking to learn about higher art education for college. Ms. Helena Min is one of the greatest art mentors. She is overqualified as an art mentor. And, I felt she was not only a mentor but became a parent who supported me and other students to become the very best you can be, not only as an art student but overall self. As a teacher she is straight to the point, caring, understanding, and guides students to their success. As a parent she is always loving and honest, she will do whatever she needs to do for you to achieve your own dream and goal/art colleges and career in art. VAS is for serious students with art in their mind for their future. This place is not for your hobby. VAS is an investment not only for getting in college and your future job but also for saving costly college tuition by getting in college with scholarships. If you go to VAS, please go into the class with the desire to learn making it an opportunity to learn and attain skills and knowledge. VAS will teach you and empower you to get into the art community successfully. VAS will not draw for you to cheat into college. Many students fail in their 1st year in college because students have hard time catching up with college level challenge unless they are well prepared. If you go to VAS, you are in the best place and the right place based on my own experience.

Helena is an excellent instructor. She likes to work one on one or with very small groups so students can get direct feedback from her. Its a much different experience from other art schools. Ive been to places where instructors fill in a class with 15 to 30 students. Its hard to get the necessary attention in those cases.

Cant be better prepared for your art college admission! I was accepted to RISD, Parsons (4 Year full scholarship), School of Visual Art (Presidential scholarship) and Pratt (4 Year full scholarship). If you are seeking for step by step preparation for any top art schools, VAS is the place to visit.Apart from your portfolio preparation, the atmosphere is great! You will be surrounded by passionate young artists and share the most artistic experience!Ms. Helena has been more than a teacher for me. She has been and will be my mentor of life.

A very good experience for students to learn art early and prepare a good portfolio. The instructor is very thorough and gives good instruction with ease. The students become very well rounded, improve and enjoy their journey in becoming better artists.

This is the place if you want be an artist! I was prepared architectural portfolio and got into 3rd grade at Sci Arc.The instructor is the one of the best teacher I ever meet. If you are looking for preparing the art/architecture college, VAS is the perfect place.

VAS-Visual Art Studio is a rare precious gem, in fact I cant think of another like it in Los Angeles (or in the world) and I know many art studios! The owner exists in a realm of light and shadow, form and substance, grace and intellect - indeed a realm where enchanted students discover artistic skills and talents of their very own.

I feel privileged and grateful that I had the opportunity to attend VAS as a young student artist. Not only did I graduate with a fully prepared art portfolio to apply for college, I learned discipline, respect, and new perspective on art. Helena is a true artist and her love for creation bleeds into the students. I am honored to have Helena as a lifelong teacher and a mentor. I went to VAS to prepare my portfolio to pursue my aspirations of studying womenswear. Studying at VAS really changed my perspective on art in a whole different way compared to other art “academies” or prep classes I’ve been to. After Ms. Helena taught me the fundamentals of art, It opened my eyes to the smallest of details in my mundane life. This really pushed me forward in my learning process and got me where I am today. I am currently a student studying BA Womenswear at Central Saint Martins in London. Not only was I accepted to CSM, I was accepted into Parsons NY, Otis (with a presidential scholarship), and Pratt. Without my time at VAS, I can’t really guarantee if I would be here . Ms. Helena is hands down the best mentor and she is a wonderful presence to be around!
