Highland Hall Waldorf School is much more than just a school for our son. Its his tribe, his village, his friends for life, and the parents and most of all its the amazing teachers whom I his dad will always cherish. Alex was at Carpenter in Studio City and doing well but you could sense he was getting lost in that sea of children, pushed around too much on those paved playgrounds. And I had a friend whos 3 children had had a dream childhood at Highland Hall so I finally did the tour. And I knew we wanted in. In a nut shell everything they stood for was my way of thinking. Deep and full of purpose, caring and incredibly welcoming and personal. And most of all the same and yet much more of what I new was going to make Alex a really great human being. And so he thrives and has friends and relationships I cant imagine he would have at any other school. And Highland Halls curriculum is everything he needs and then some. The teachers are unique, caring and most of all a team. A really dedicated faculty that really cares and guides. The whole idea of how the school is run and the diversity of the education is really worth understanding. Especially with the way the world is today. I am telling you do not miss the opportunity of having your kids go to this school. And yes it goes through to high school and prepares them for the tough world and the college life that lies ahead. Feel free to email back if youd like more information from me.

Knowing our child is in the sacred space of the Highland Hall Waldorf School allows my husband and I to breathe a sigh of relief! The Waldorf is philosophy embraces the biology of children and respects a childs process as they grow.We have been there since nursery and feel so blessed knowing we will be there until high school! We have so many incredibly dedicated, talented and empathetic teachers who truly love our children and care about each of them.A beautiful environment that truly nurtures deep play, evolving ideas and true learning...as we watch the beautiful unfolding of our children

We transferred from a high performing public school this year and could not be happier. Our daughter is thriving. She is in the second grade, and has a new found love of learning. I love that Highland Hall focuses on the entire child, instead of the rote memorization of facts that was passing as an education in her previous school. In four short months she has regained her self confidence and she cant wait to go to school. She is also learning how to be a good citizen, and to care about the earth and the people around her. She reads voraciously, and is suddenly very curious about the world around her. We have been welcomed with open arms, and love the community spirit at Highland Hall. I honestly believe that our children will grow into creative, compassionate adults with the guidance and education offered at this amazing school.

Our daughter goes to the nursery school at Highland Hall and I have to say, you really get what you pay for. There simply is no place like this and I feel proud that I’m giving the best to my daughter. This is a place where my daughter is free to develop herself naturally and find out what her unique contribution to the world is. The teachers, staff and larger community make this school a home.

I love this school! My daughter is learning so much and having so much fun at the same time. No two days are the same. She is learning two foreign languages, two musical instruments, and the material she learns in her core subjects is incredibly in-depth and taught with interest and wisdom. The faculty are amazing, the grounds are beautiful - its just a wonderful place.

We have loved every single day that weve been at Highland Hall! Our son literally skips on the way to his classroom in the morning and cant stand to miss a day of school. He loves the handwork that they are taught, gardening, German and Spanish, and all the outdoor time that the kids have throughout the day. As parents, we couldnt be happier. We are watching him begin his academic life in a positive and supportive environment, where he is learning creative and critical thinking through all of his work; this alone makes it all worthwhile for us.

There is no better school in all of LA! Our son loves going to school. I feel confident that he will always love going to school and he wont be burned out by the time he is a teenager. Most all of the students who graduate from Highland Hall go to the college of their choice.

I have been a parent at Highland Hall for over 10 years. I currently have a 6th grader and a first grader and we couldnt be more thrilled about the people they are becoming. The teachers are magical in not only their knowledge of the Waldorf philosophy but in how well they know each individual child. The 11-acre campus is beautiful and includes a biodynamic garden, woodshop, chicken coop, greenhouse, archery range, and gymnasium. My kids love the language arts, learning to play instruments, sports, chorus, and handwork.Highland Hall is not just an institution, it is a community. It is like being a part of a small town where everyone is family and everyone takes care of each other. We are blessed to be a part of the amazing school!

We have 3 children and 2 grandchildren at Highland Hall and couldnt be happier. All of them are engaged, challenged, and happy socially. We appreciate the campus, with its huge biodynamic garden, and the facilities like the gym and the science lab. But we especially appreciate the Waldorf philosophy. We felt that many of the other schools we looked at were catering to children with what feels like college models and al la carte classes. Its refreshing to be at a school that has such a strong core philosophy that recognizes the developmental stage of each age, and teaches in a way that meets them there.

This school is based on Rudolph Steiners method for education. It highly honors all the aspects of the child, mind body and soul.My children have been there for 8 years and I have watched them thrive on many levels. I am constantly complimented on their ability to mindfully observe and then appropriately interact in addition to their other range of skills.I am surprised by the two negative comments bc the school full heartedly welcomes children at all ages and the community is a very embracing one.At graduation every year a considerable percentage will have joined the school half way through. In addition this is not your typical rich private school. Many people are not affluent and work hard to bring their kids here.Go to an orientation and/or a tea with the alumni and meet the children.. that was what convinced me to bring my kids years ago

We have had not such a great experience at HH. It is a beautiful campus and have some wonderful specialty teachers, however, we were stuck with a bad teacher. long story short, so many families left since the first grade, that at the 3 d grade only 5 families remain. School administrators are still looking into situation. We have tried and ecxost all the possible venues. With a heavy heart we had to leave half way through school year, along with two other familys. we pulled both of our children and found a much better place for them.I hope the school will sort the deep rooted problems, however, we would not come back there.

After 5 years at HH, I asked my daughters if they wanted to look at other schools... just to see what else was out there. They looked at me, both incredulous I would even ask. “We love school!” they shouted. For those unfamiliar with the Waldorf system, it is European-based, and so the same teacher ideally follows the children from 1st to 8th grade. We have been blessed, thus far, to have had grade teachers who have stayed and connected deeply with our kids, enriching their educational life in a way i never thought possible. Each child at HH is tended over by a community of teachers like a little plant. The children grow with their teachers and their teachers grow with them, and as in every growing experience, there are ups and downs. For our family, however, we found that by staying the course, being patient, somehow, the kids grow from wide eyed little acorns to strong young trees, strong in self and independent in thought and beliefs. The study is multi-disciplinary, incorporating the artistic with the analytic and vice versa to allow these students to approach the world with a broad skill set, which is necessary to be relevant in today’s increasingly visual and virtual world. But most of all, our family found a community that encouraged us to breathe, pause, and let live... in a world that can feel like a whirling hamster wheel. I cannot stress enough how important this is for the student. By giving our kids the space to enjoy the process of learning, I feel HH has set our kids on the path to be lifelong students. Always curious and eager to understand. In the end, what more could you want from a school? Thank you HH!

We have been HH parents for over 12 years. We have two daughters that have had the joy of being both students of the Waldorf curriculum and more importantly part of the strong community/family at HH.I personally went to a very prestigious all girls school in Los Angeles and I am fully aware of the enormous stress that I endured at school and I didnt want that for my children. I want them to be able to learn not be overwhelmed by the rat race. If my daughter wants to be a doctor, and is already stressed out by school in the third grade, how are they going to make it through medical school? The beauty of both HH and Waldorf education is that the education meets the child where they are developmentally. Allowing a child to be a child while still stressing academics and not ignoring the arts, music, and so many other vital things that make a well rounded human that can think out of the box. Not just a robot that can rattle off a lot of facts and pass bubble tests.Coming to HH is the best decision we have ever made for our children.
