I graduated from this school just a handful of years ago. Its an alright school, but Id be lying if I said it didnt have its fair share of issues. At least when I was there.Heres a perfect example. I have a problem with one of my former teachers from this establishment. Im not going to say her name, even though Im very tempted. Tbh, I think she still works there. May God have mercy on her future students. She was the most evil teacher that I have ever had in my entire educational history. She was constantly bitter and had an attitude for no reason. She even had a select few students that she would pick on and even attempted to scare them. She clearly had some mental/personal issues going on in her life and she would take it out on the students. It was clear as day. She would give our class outlandish punishments just so she could feel like that she had some sort of control in her life. And if you would just so happen to forget a single homework assignment in her class, she would take away your recess for an entire week. Imagine going through 7 hours of school, make it to her class, and then have your recess taken away. She tried to put the fear of God into her students. A few students literally reported feeling nervous and reluctant to show up to school because she was constantly giving them a hard time. I literally felt like I was walking on eggshells every time I entered her class. And of course, the principal at the time (not current principal) did nothing about it. I had some issues with the former principal as well, but that is a story in of itself. Back to the topic. She would make our class do jumping jacks at 8:00am in the morning just for her own amusement. And if you talk back to her in the slightest or show even the smallest bit of frustration, she would pull you out into the hallway and lecture you in your face, or she would cry. Yes, you read that correctly. She has literally CRIED. During our last 2 weeks of school before summer break, every other class was doing fun activities, watching movies, etc. But what did our class do? We had to complete busy assignments that she gave to us so she could keep us occupied. She didnt even grade them. It was just worksheets left and right. It was ridiculous. She constantly told our class, I dont care if you guys dont like me! I have plenty of friends! I honestly question that statement because she is a really difficult person to deal with. She would find the most idiotic reason to punish us and get on our case. You wouldnt believe the amount of anger that I had to bottle up in her class. You cannot make this stuff up lol. I hope I never see this woman ever again. This is exactly why we need more male teachers in the education system.

Our family has had three Sons graduate from St. John Paul II Academy, we’ve been there since the beginning. Our two younger sons now attend kindergarten and second grade respectively. At the inception of the Academy there were a few tough time: the three parishes that formed one school went through some “storming” and “norming”. I can’t say enough good about this school community and how it has evolved. The Academy is the perfect size, your children will not get lost here. The pastors and parishes of St John Paul II and St Bartholomew are “all in” to provide the best for your children. Ms. Wilt and all the faculty and staff strive to serve the needs of each student. The Academy is very diverse and mirrors the community in its cultural makeup. You CAN afford to send your children to Catholic school, the Archdiocese has committed major funding to help anyone with need invest in their children’s education. I encourage you to call Ms. Wilt and have a tour you will see what a gem this Academy is. We love JP2A!P Barker

I am so fortunate to have gone to JP II Academy!!!!! Most diversified catholic school in Louisville.I started at KK and graduated in 2017. I miss my grade school very much. It was like going to a family school and that was a great luxury. Every Student was given equal opportunity. Opportunity was created and given so every student can bring out their best. Staff were so kind from Principal Ms Wilt to Councillor to teachers Librarian to Cafeteria staff to all other staff. I realized and very grateful for my teachers how well they prepared me for high school. I played different sports for JPIIA, VB was my favorite. We won the City Championship when I was in 7th grade under the great leadership of Annette Fields and Suzanne Williams - Bays. This is was a great experience for me. I wish we had grades through 12, so I could have continued there. They taught me so much wisdom and knowledge. As a practicing catholic, attending mass on Wednesday was great. They taught us through actions for example - Step by Step Program. My entire family loved and adored the school. I would not have gone to any other school. My parents come from a different culture and country from other side of the world, but I was born here, JPIIA being the most diversified catholic school, it was a great fit for me. Every day was a happy day and when school was not in session, I could not wait to get back to school. We had drama but we learned from it. We learned to accept each other. Those 9 years were precious. We love Fr. Bill and he made us think and he kept us close to God. If i have any wisdom or knowledge gained through my 9 years it was from JPIIA in addition to what I learned at home from my parents. They taught us the art of sharing, accepting, doing our best and the list goes on. When I slacked they pushed me to do better to reach my potential. I can keep on going, bragging. In essence, l love JPIIA and my parish and everything about both. - Peter and Family

I would grab a drink or sit somewhere where you feel comfortable, because this will be a long message. I left John Paul after being a student there for 9 years. Over the years the only thing that I learned from this school is that they dont care about the students. They only want your money. The principal was just friendly or nice when she was around parents or people that are shadowing. It felt like she was wearing a mask whenever she was a around parents, then took off the mask when she was around the students. She said some pretty mean things to us children which was very un exceptable. I was a kind person so I wanted to make a new kid feel welcomed, so I talked to the kid in the morning before school actually started ( when we sit in the cafeteria before 7:40 or so) I talked to him to make him feel more welcomed to the school. One day when one of the more rude teachers ( staff helper) told me to turn around and stop talking to him because I was being too loud or disruptive. Even though I got in trouble I didnt listen because I was being kind. This proves that the school doesnt care whether there students are careing, friendly or welcoming. The 2016-2017 year the school had about 137 people ( whole school) even thought this is great for one on one learning abilityes it effects on how much money the school has. Due to the income of the school they are limited on field trips, updated technology, getting bug spray, having mouse traps around the school, having ants in the cafeteria, not having a big buddies program because of small school, and buying cheap things. Yes, Im going to address these topics. In 6th grade we didnt have enough money to afford field trips, so we didnt get the chance to go on field trips that year. They spent a $20,000.00 grant on some chrome laptops, but have falling over bent up books (they had the books since they opened). If they wanted to spend the money on electronics they could have spent it on iPads or nice tablets for everyone to use (like the middle school). They have ants in the cafeteria, I told the lunch lady about it and she just sprayed water on there. This is not sanitary what so ever. They had mouse traps around the school because of the rodents around the school. The message Im trying to say is not go to John Paul II Academy if you are looking for a friendly, clean, and caring atmosphere.
