My children have danced here for over 4 years and the level of training they have received is among the highest in the region. The school not only teaches classical ballet, it also supplements this training with tap, jazz, and modern classes. In addtion to learning proper technique, the school also instills discipline, creativity, and teamwork, skills useful in all areas of life for life.

Best place in the Louisville area for true classical ballet training. As a former Principal Dancer with the Louisville Ballet, I can truly say that this is THE place to learn classical ballet. Kristen, the director, provides a safe, structured environment that is rare in the area. Five stars, two thumbs up! - David Goud

My 4 year old loves her teacher, Mary Jane. She is so patient and kind! We love this studio and all of the staff! The small class size and quality instruction extends through all levels.

To address the owners response, how do you know the class was not a good fit for the male that wanted to join the class? Sounds like it wasnt a good fit for you. Isnt this discrimination all over again? It sounds like to me you only let certain people in your school and for you to let another student dictate to you who can be accepted or not is wrong on your part and hurtful to others. Maybe that other student of yours has self-confidence issues. How can you say that your school welcomes dancers of all genders when that is simply not the case. I wonder how you would treat a transgender person?

The instructors at LAD are some of the most talented and experienced dancers and teachers in the region. I would highly recommend this school for anyone seeking serious training for their child.

Both of my children have been trained in classical ballet at Louisville Academy of Dance since they were very small. Its a very healthy atmosphere, which cannot be found at most dance studios. The director is absolutely amazing and provides the highest dance instruction to not only the older girls on pointe, but the little ones, too. Its a clean, open-minded, drama free (yay!), hard working, and artistic atmosphere.

Great school. Our child has been attending ballet classes here since she was in Pre-K and she has learned not only great technique but also discipline. This school has done a great job of helping our child discover her inner dancer and love for the stage!

We have recently switched studios and joined LAD due to my dancer hitting a plateau and politics at her previous studio. So far she has really enjoyed the classes and other dancers that she has met. She had previously struggled with her turn out and plie and was constantly being told to correct it at her previous studio but not told how to do so. Within a week of being at LAD the instructors were able to tell her what she was doing wrong, and more importantly show her how to correct it to do the moves correctly. She was ecstatic that she finally learned what she was doing wrong to fix these issues. The staff is hands on which really helps the students learn where they need their head/hip/leg/hand placements for a specific move or variation which has helped her grow as a dancer tremendously. The students have been welcoming and friendly and she has loved learning all the different variations as well as a new style of ballet then she had been previously exposed to. She is an upper level dancer and has struggled a bit with balancing the demand of the new dance schedule and school but she is very happy that she made the move over to LAD.

This school blatantly and unapologetically discriminates based on GENDER. A friend of mine was denied access to a class based purely on the fact that he is a male.Dance is an art for anybody with a body! Men and women alike have been dancers since the beginning of time and have been studying ballet since the 15th century. I am appalled that in 2018 people are denied entry to a class based on gender. Dance (and ballet specifically) have NEVER been a female-baed art! Do not support this studio who denies people their right to dance based on gender! To clarify this was a beginner ballet class and not female specific, they do not offer another class just for males, my friend was denied entry into a general dance class. But even professional companies and schools who have male and female classes do not bar students from taking the class based on gender, they are purely recommendations.

Would not reccommend. I called to inquire about the adult ballet class. I was told that a woman in the class would feel uncomfortable if there was a man in the class. If I could I would give zero stars.

A friend was denied being able to attend ballet class solely on the grounds that he was a man. Apparently these people think and expect that only women should take ballet. I will be letting my friends know of this discriminatory and sexist policy. Denying men access to ballet is contributing to the rigid gender stereotypes that hurt us all, men and women.
