Amazing school. I have had a kiddo go through school all the way til graduation. I wish I found this school for my other girls sooner. Bar none to other schools.

Its an accepting school (in terms of the LGBT+ community considering I have never been bullied by anyone about it) and some of the teachers are great and funny, but everything else sucks. Awful education, too many bad students, and a principle who doesnt even care about the well being of his students. If you want your child to keep his or her sanity, you will not send them here.

My son went here several years ago they had a steroid head principle and several female teachers that bullied him because he had ADHD. They refused to follow his education plan and continued to try to get him expelled. They went to extreme measures trying to cause him problems in his future life. We made a decision to move away from this area and put him in a different school and he has had great success every since and not one small bit of trouble since he now had caring teachers. Sad what these teachers have become...not all but a substantial amount are only out for the paycheck and dont want to take time out for kids that are struggling.

At highland I learned more street smarts than book smarts. I feel like I could survive in the hood on my own. WOW THANKS HIGHLAND 💜

Parents should be very concerned when sending their kids to this school. Teachers are promoted based on level of education not effectiveness. Guidance counselors and principals automatically side with teachers without speaking to kids. My son has had one issue with a teacher, Dr. Kristina Johnson, but yet the school did nothing to help him. They allowed Dr. Johnson to bully and tear him down. The school needs to evaluate her as a teacher. She is nasty and not helpful at all for disadvantaged kids. Great Schools Rate Highland as -Very concerning:Disadvantaged students at this school may be falling far behind other students in the state, and this school may have large achievement gaps.This is EXACTLY my experience with this school. Alternative styles of learning are frowned upon instead of embraced. It is a teachers job to come along side of a student and help them succeed not tear them down. My son will never forget last year and what a teacher did to him. Look at Great Schools rating for students with disabilities.. 6% do well compared to 20% as a statewide average. Do NOT SEND YOUR CHILD here if they have ANY TYPE disability. 8% of kids are diagnosed with the inability to focus. Teachers should recognize they will have on average 1 or 2 students each year with this disability. Those kids are not bad and need patience and a teacher that will embrace their alternative need for learning.I just want to add, it looks like Virgie Crank, a few reviews down - had the EXACT experience with her ADHD son... THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. It looks like teachers bullying ADHD kids is the Highland WAY. This must STOP.

This is the most unorganized and chaotic school I have ever been to. They recorded my daughter as absent for days she was in attendance, teachers never returned phone calls or emails and my daughter did not learn anything in the one year and two months she attended classes here. She even heard a teacher say to her class: No matter what you do I still get my paycheck. Doesnt matter to me if you fail or succeed. WOW, that speaks volumes. From our experience at Highland, the staff just does not care about their students, as they have way too many to handle.

In my 3 years at Highland Middle School, Ive definitely learned a lot; not nessesarily book smarts, but mostly street smarts. Since the teachers show little compassion and lack the ability to control misbehaving students, a lot of kids dont get the attention they need in the classroom. Therefore, the kids dont get the material and dont learn everything theyre supposed to. However, at HMS did teach me about drug dogs, police, gangs, gun/bomb threats, and drug overdose facts!

Highland middle school is terrible but I can’t blame anybody but myself for Ingaging myself into the incrowd. Highlands teachers are very racist and I sat in my “favorite” teachers seat to remind you everybody sits there but by me being African American I must have took it wrong that she said get up because if anything comes up missing I’ll have to blame you.the students their are terrible and all over the place and it’s not right, they are always skipping every class cussing teachers out and slowly tearing that school down. Highland middle is not recommend for anyone’s child. That school is bad all the Cali park victory park villege west west side east side students go there saying wrong about them but they will involve your children the wrong way. There has been you know what found at that school and all. I cannot attend highland middle because the new principle said I cannot attend that school anymore the new principle is okay and she’s a black woman to be another black person that doesn’t know me you should want to see growth that’s what the matter what the schools these days I did have a rough start in the beginning of the year first suspension 1- second day of school a girl named mikea crowfard pushed me out the way of the door and said move bi***. So then then the second week of school she threw a pencil at my head. Then the day after that I came into class and everyone had there phone out because she was ready to fight me she ran up hit me and of course I protected myself I did self defense like anyone else would. But by the society being so messed up the school suspended me for 6 days. Then they said I threatened a teacher then I so called punched a kid In the face but by me being black I’m the aggressive person in everything. This school is a racist,sexist place and it’s not fare that I got put out.the teachers don’t have patients why would u want that career but recommend badly on another child. But I can’t get mad I took a look at my behavior and HIGHLAND MIDDLE IS TERRIBLE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE.

Its the best school ever. Im now in 7th grade and completed 6th grade here. I really love this school and the teachers.

This school is just horrible. One thing there is gum everywhere! Us kids barely have any time to get to class. The whole looping thing, not a good idea! There is 4 teachers that i really hate and guess what i have to deal with them for the rest of middle school, that is if i continue to go to Highland. At lunch we only have 2 tables we can sit at, and you can only sit with the people in your class. I am really thinking about moving schools! Oh and i dont know any book smarts! They teach you streets smarts, but i guess they think thats best because of society today!

Highland middle school is an interesting school. Everyone says the kids are bad, but I think all of the kids are great. There are NEVER any fights at highland! highland has no violence ever! Everyone gets along happily and everybody is friends and we all love eachother! Most definatley !!! The food is sooooo good I want to eat it for he rest of my life the teachers are so nice too!(This is all a lie)

I understand not letting people wear shorts that are too revealing, but why should I not be able to wear shorts that go down to mid thigh? Who am I distracting? I assure you that none of my classmates have a problem with it, Ive hung out with many of them in shorts and none of them had a second thought about it. If the teachers are the ones having a problem with it then maybe you should take a look at who you hired to teach at your middle school if theyre so concerned with looking at my thighs not trying to educate me. Especially at such an old school as highland, we need to find a way to cool off since our air vents blow out dust and hot air. If a girl 6 inches shorter than me can wear the same shorts as me and not get called to the office but me getting called because I have more calf/lower thigh showing than her is acceptable then maybe we should just tell all the taller girls they should cover their bodies up because obviously the administrators (who, I might add, are supposed to be our mentors and we should look up to them) dont accept us. Also, please dont let the boys wear mid thigh length shorts if the girls cant. This is the sexism we DONT need to support at our public school.

Once in the middle of class a teacher goozed also she did it in my face and i cried the goozed smelled good

They are the most unorganized school ever. They dont inform parents of anything going on as far as after school activities its all left up to the kids. My child has adhd and they do nothing extra to help her with this disability. Every parent I have talked to us unhappy with this school.

I started my 6th grade year hear in 2013 and it was HELL the teachers were asses and I tried to kill myself in class and they did not do a thing the bullies and there was only a hand-full of people i trusted so dont go here
