Amazing, friendly, supportive place for learning folk music, bluegrass, old time, and more! Take lessons on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo from rank beginner to advanced repertoire classes. Vocal, harmony, and ensemble classes, too. Top notch, professional teachers. But the very best thing is the supportive community. If youre looking for a folk music home in Louisville, come join the family.

Dave and his staff of top notch instructors are extremely passionate and dedicated to preserving folk music traditions in Louisville. They are extraordinarily easy going, humble and approachable. I would never hesitate to recommend them to a friend or family member. Dave is also a stellar business owner and citizen of the community. HIGHLY recommended!

The folk school team are some of the nicest people and are all very patient and supportive of their students. As a life long guitarist, I’ve always wanted to branch out into other instruments and Dave and his team made it fun and easy to do so. I’d recommend anyone looking to start playing music (which it’s never late to do) to come here. You won’t regret it!

Just took intro guitar at this school. Such a fun class! Met some people who have become friends, and am really loving guitar. I had wanted to learn guitar for a long time (moved 2 apartments with an unused guitar in tow). Just signed up for Guitar-2 :) thank you!!!!!!

As a Louisvillian and a musician, the Louisville Folk School is really a core component of the local music scene. Dave Howard has revitalized the folk and bluegrass community here in a way that has been lacking for years. The instructors are all fantastic as well.

I took a ukulele class on a whim a couple years ago and now Im totally hooked. Ive enjoyed a bunch of different classes at the LFS, including a Wernick Method jam class that turned out to be a life changer. I cant imagine my life without playing music now. Thanks, Louisville Folk School!Edited February 2020 to add: I am now an instructor. I wanted to disclose that for the sake of transparency since this is a review, but also to reiterate how playing music has an adult has changed my life, even to the point of becoming a music teacher.
