Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. Its a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access... yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didnt change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.

Madison college: 4 starsMadison colleges Nursing program: 0 starsMy overall college experience before the nursing program was somewhat positive - teachers are engaging, knowledgeable and really go above and beyond. Dealing with the administrative side of things however, is a complete nightmare of being sent in circles with every person you talk to just as clueless as the last. Their website really isnt much better than the administrative staff - really a lot to be desired. My college experience on the nursing side of things (which is completely separate from the rest of Madison college) has been a hell ride since day one. All their experienced teachers are retiring (once Michael Redding is gone, the place will fall apart), and theyre being replaced with incompetent instructors who couldnt get a job as a nurse so now they just attempt teaching it. Its cut-throat for the students while teachers can fail you for whatever they please - for example missing a day to go to urgent care and presenting a doctors note while the teacher missed a whole week, or emailing instead of calling about said absence when the teacher used the same method of contact in their week of absence. In fact Ive heard of students failing because they got COVID, were told to stay home and then subsequently failed (Despite having an online option that everyone used at the start of the pandemic). Oh and the administrative side? There isnt one. Sonja Noble is great, but overloaded taking care of essentially all the nursing students questions and advising needs. Otherwise, the whole operation is a good old boys club that you cant contest anything with because it will get you nowhere fast.My advice: if youre going to Madison College for anything besides nursing - go for it, its an affordable way of getting your degree with great teachers, and only a slight headache of dealing with cluelessness. However, if you are going for your associates degree in nursing - save your money for a school that teaches more than incompetence.

My advisor didnt know much about classes. She was as confused as I was. But she was more than willing to help. The website is absolutely terrible and confusing. There was an exceptional amount of hoops to jump through for being just a technical college. Took me a really long time to figure everything out so Im glad I got an early start on things. Hopefully things go smoother now that I am all set up. The building itself was beautiful. Heres to better days and a greater education!

Madison Area Technical College (informally MATC) is a public technical and community college based in Madison, Wisconsin. Popular majors include Nursing Assistant, Liberal Arts and Humanities, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT Paramedic). It is dedicated to providing accessible, high quality instruction and technical experience to meet the needs of its students, community and area employers. I am personally involved in many activities like the student senate, wolfpack techies etc. I highly recommend joining this college in order to save some money and to also transfer to other colleges like uw Madison, uw whitewater etc!

Not a good experience. The teachers are great .May 10, 2021Madison Area Technical College - ReviewThis intent of this review is to warn prospective students about the blatant and rampant discrimination and mistreatment by MATC. MATC failed to provide me with reasonable accommodations. Their policies were outdated and conflicted with state and federal laws. Disability office staff implied that due to my disability, that I had no place attending school, and that accommodations were too much of an imposition, despite the fact that the nature of these accommodations, were reasonable and commonly used in grade school and post-secondary education. MATC openly works against equal opportunity initiatives. After meetings and correspondence, several issues were resolved; however, there is no indication that MATC has taken the steps required to remedy the college’s toxic culture and systemic problems. I do not recommend MATC for anyone. This is not a healthy environment, and it should not be supported by anyone. The negligence and maltreatment I have faced is unacceptable.Sincerely,Former MATC student

Many of the instructors have deep knowledge of their material and can offer great amounts of help. Some definitely need raises, as they are phenomenal. The building stays clean and well-kept. The courses, when properly selected, offer a plethora of skills which proved useful. Once familiar, one can navigate the small and cozy building quite easily. The counseling services, on the other hand, operate in a notably different manner from the instructors. They often cause more trouble than they solve, and some have nearly unintelligible accents and mediocre English. Some instructors completely lack organization . The food also costs a bit much.

Does not offer as many classes as the website says, most of the classes seem to be early in the morning, the entire school is in a dead zone (no cell service, wifi occasionally works). Good as a last resort or if you want to get a few credits to transfer to a better college. School counselors dont seem to understand how the school works, and will try to put you in classes that dont transfer or are in the wrong program. School will try to take your money in any way they can, by not letting you cancel your classes, not informing you of deadlines, etc. Cafeteria is simply awful and overpriced. I feel bad for all the good hardworking teachers who work here.

People need to get over their egos and be smart about college expenses. This is a great first step to getting a 4-year college degree. We are LUCKY to have it in Madison. In addition, they offer excellent associate degree programs. It is also ideal for high school grads who are not yet ready to fly the nest!

The teachers are excellent and I enjoy all of my classes. The corse material listed “What is the Argument” as the book needed for my philosophy class. Once in class the teacher informed us that is was a different book but that I could exchange the book at the book store for the correct book. I was pretty annoyed because this book cost more, but hey whatever at least I could get the correct book or so I thought. I went to the bookstore to trade books and they informed me that because I bought it through amazon I could not exchange the book, but I was more than welcome to buy the correct one from them. No thanks, it was their mistake and I don’t have the money to buy a textbook needlessly.

Money hungry school. Will find ANY excuse to take your money. They will most likely put you in the wrong program, and will want you to take extra classes in the long run, all because they screwed up, making you stay and pay longer than you hoped for.Advisors do not respond in a timely fashion. I emailed my advisor in June of 2018 about financial aid problems, and havent heard a response since. Made it clear that I could not afford college without their help, but never received a response for help. Dropped classes the first day, right before classes started, only to realize that I will still be paying for things pertaining to those dropped classes. If I am not taking the class, then I am not paying for materials that I will not be using. End of discussion. All in all, not worth going to. As a former student of Madison College, I will make sure that none of my friends or family even waste their time applying to go here.

If I could rank MATC as 0.5, I probably would. I started attending the college in 2011. The program I entered into was Graphic Design. The teachers were mostly good, in that program. There were occasional teachers who were quite absent minded towards their students and overly focused on sharing their opinions about things versus creating an open environment/atmosphere for students to ask questions and receive/give constructive criticism and make sure the students needs were met in helpful manners. This contributed to the tension and anxiety (and depression) amongst the students. The GD program could really use some help in terms of teacher-student dynamics and relationships. My English teacher and Speech teachers were absolutely awful. They were too by the book, so-to-speak, and traditional in addition to regimented in their teaching techniques. If the GD program wouldve allowed for students to take courses more closely related to the GD program for the general education courses (like something related to Social Media, for instance) that wouldve been far better. I failed Speech, twice, due to the intense standards of both the teachers I had (one online and one in-person). There were some teachers who had current real world experience and that tended to be a plus side in the GD program. In terms of how well the academic counselors handle situations, Id say that area needs some real improvement. I was unable to get my Photography credits transferred over (from a university) because they did not have anyone available to properly assess the credits. I was going to have to re-take photography (2 units) after having completed 3 units, having previously spent close to a thousand dollars on one class. I passed that class with a B. The photography department at MATC is almost nonexistent, from what I understand. I didnt want to waste my time (or money) re-taking a class I had already invested in and passed. In terms of dealing with difficult teachers, the MATC counselors are supportive, but unable to do very much about the situations. Not to mention, some of them are also teachers. That can be problematic. I filed an incident report near the end of the 2019 Winter Semester to two associate deans who were too busy to help me with my situation, which led me to failing Speech for a second time and being suspended from receiving financial aid and suspended from MATC. This isnt the first or second time Ive encountered difficulties at this school. The professionalism is seriously lacking. Unless youre looking to transfer to a university or receive a certificate, Id say that itd be in your best interest to spend more money going to college, elsewhere, to receive your Associates Degree. Too many wires seem to get crossed, at this college, which can result in a tangled mess. After numerous obstacles and not nearly the support Ive needed, I finally threw in the towel at this school and decided that it was no longer worth my personal investment/effort/time. Take this advice from someone who has been attending MATC, on again and off again, for 8 years. Ive experienced a lot of things at this college and my overall impression is not a good one.

Ive been to this school for many years, and while its not perfect it definitely met my expectations as a technical college. One thing people should realize is this isnt a private school or university, so youre not gonna get the same treatment as you would with those institutions. No one is going to hold your hand and push you through the classes/courses, you have to take your own education seriously and stay motivated. These teachers have to deal with literally hundreds of students, so making sure youre getting the right education is YOUR responsibility not theirs. Ive never had a teacher who was so incompetent they failed to teach the material properly, and students who funked out of their classes simply didnt apply themselves enough. The same thing could also be said about their financial services. They have to deal with literally thousands of students so if theres something wrong with your financial aid or scholarship, again its your responsibility to be proactive about getting it corrected. If youre looking for a decent Madison area tech-college to receive your education quickly and efficiently without all of the extra elective classes, this would be the place. Also to comment on another persons post about the required prerequisites and compass test; compared to other technical colleges Ive been to MATC is probably the best in this area. The only required prerequisites are for their math and English programs, and the compass exam will allow you to test past many of the earlier classes. Compared to a whole semesters worth of prerequisites I was required to take for a college out in Oregon, I think MATCs expectations arent that much.Overall while his school is by no means perfect, its a wonderful choice for those looking to get quality education on a tight budget. Remember, this is a technical college so you have to be proactive and responsible about your own schooling.

Going here has made her basically give up on her dream. The financial aid office is misinforming to students and excuses themselves blatantly for mistakes they make that cost people trying to get an education way more than they can afford. It appears that not many who work here actually care about students experience or well-being, let alone successfully graduating.I would also like to note that while i was visiting this campus the animals they kept for the vet tech program were completely emaciated and obviously not taken care of well. An advisor told me it would take me 7 YEARS to complete a 2 year ADN program (Associates Degree in Nursing). And then after those 7 years the likelyhood of me transferring anywhere for my RN, was slim to none... I was shocked and told her it would take me 7 years to become an O.D. (Optometrist). I then got a second opinion, who laughed in my face when I told her what this advisor told me. She said it would take me 3-4 years. If you have questions- prepare for a 40 minute wait, just to speak to a human, but then another 15-20 to get trasferred to the department you are looking for.Looking online for your answers? F-O-R-G-E-T I-T!!! I graduated with a degree from here once. I am going back to school for a new major. I would never suggest this joke of an institute to anyone. They are severely unorganized, uneducated (especially in retention and advising), and nothing is consistent when it comes to answers to questions, policies etc.It took me 6 months to get enrolled with Madison College... after this whole mess. I looked into forgetting the campus entirely, and shooting for UW (which by the way all advisors told me verbadum- there is no way for you to get in, youre not smart enough).. it took me 2 weeks to be admitted, accepted and enrolled.Save yourself. This is a great school, period. The president of Madison College, formerly MATC, is excellently skilled at carrying the rest of the school with him to success. Keith Corneil, excuse me if I misspelled, is also a great lookout for the student body. If youre having trouble with classes, getting to school, finding parking, etc. there is no reason why you cannot find the help you require. Do not be ashamed of going to the TRiO office for tutoring, or visiting Dr. Daniels in person at his office for questions like how do I find the right scholarships to apply for. Visit the volunteer office to make new friends and make a difference at the same time. The Madison College is blossoming with opportunity around every corner like a true teaching school should.
