At one point in time prior to 1997 this was the best martial arts school in Madison under Dr. & Grand Master Paiks. But then his school was watered down my his son when the Grand Master retired. At one point in time the Grand Master helped children and students that had troubled lives and help instill not just martial arts but life skills and confidence to those that were struggling in this community. As well as had some of the highest percentage of championship wins.. this school is no longer about that, and is there to take your money under the new master.. not worth your time. Rest in peace my Dr. Grand Master. He was a true Hero of the community and it wasnt all about profit from well to do parents. He shaped alot of this community

My two kids started at Paiks when they were each about 6 years old. It took them about 4 years to get to brown and red belts (we had to move unfortunately) going on average 2-3 times a week. This school is focused on what you would call traditional martial arts instruction, that is, no flips, fancy spin kicks, etc. - but rather forms, self defense, technique, and sparring. From my observations, I would say that the instruction is firm, but difficult to focus on kids who are a bit less motivated. That is, in a group of students, the instructors (and this depends on the instructors, who are not always the senior instructors - which by the way, are *very good* in my opinion) will sometimes correct errors, but if you are doing it ok:, they will not say anything. That is ok from time to time in a large class, and motivated students will self correct. Recently, they hired a new senior instructor who seems to have a focus on realistic self defense - which, in my opinion, is great. Traditional self defense instruction by theory often will not work under realistic conditions and stresses - which can be dangerous to the martial arts practitioner who has a gained a false sense of confidence in a real self defense situation. The addition of this new instructors insight and thoughts are a big perk to the school. There does seem to be a charge for every little thing - each belt, belt tests, uniforms, tournaments, etc. - which is not entirely unexpected but it does wear on you after awhile. From what I could tell, there are a variety of different styles, weapons, exercise routines available from time to time - some of which were too late for our kids. Overall, the staff is friendly and welcoming. With three separate locations in Madison, you can pick the closest location which is convenient.

Paiks Martial Arts is the best martial arts school in the Madison area. After having done martial arts for 13 years, its the best school Ive been part of. My family and I travel all the way from Beloit, WI-- an hour away from the school-- twice a week just to train because nothing closer to home compares. The instructors truly care about your growth, not just as a martial artist, but as an individual. The emphasis on tradition and discipline is hard to find in other schools. I dont know who Id be today without such an excellent martial arts program in my life.

Paiks TMAC has been great for our whole family. They offer a wide variety of core classes with the basic plan. Classes are divided based on age and belt level. Several nights a week there are family classes that you can take with your child. For a little more you can sign up for additional classes in weapons training, team training, parents class and cardio class. The whole family can be there 6 nights a week if you want.Prior to joining we looked into several other schools and did not see what we were looking for. At Paiks respect for instructors and classmates is not optional. The equipment is always clean and neatly put away. Instructors are always willing to discuss the goals of you and your child. Students only test when they have enough core classes and demonstrate proficiency.I recommend Paiks to anybody looking for a traditional marital arts school!

My son and I have been students at Paiks for six years. My son started when he was five, and the training and discipline have made a huge difference in his life. He learned to focus and apply himself, whether at the dojang or at school, and also developed leadership skills and responsibility. In addition, hes become athletic and learned self-defense skills and confidence that will serve him well throughout his life. The instructors are excellent, and classes are both fun and challenging. The school teaches a variety of styles and weapons and provides many opportunities to compete in tournaments and train at a high level. I highly recommend the school to anyone with a serious interest in martial arts.

My son received his first belt at Paik’s Martial Arts in May 2014 when he was 11 yrs old. Since then he has cultivated confidence, discipline and learned respect and honor at the dojang. He is currently a teenager who has started his new journey as a Black Belt. Some time ago I found myself stepping away from the sidelines and into the dojang as a student as well! We are honored and proud to be part of Paik’s Martial Arts.

For several decades, Paiks Martial Arts has been a fixture in the Madison area. Dr. Paik ran an amazing school and his son, Grand Master Peter Paik has continued that legacy in his place. My kids (2 of my boys) have been working with the school now for going on 2 years. It’s been a great place for them to learn about discipline and self respect as well as the respect of others. There is no fluff, no Hollywood style karate, just pure and simple self defense, strength and conditioning and a creation of awareness of your surroundings. This has been an amazing experience for the kids and one of the best extracurricular activities that I could imagine for them. They have embraced it. My hope is that they stick with it and are able to carry on the things they are learning for the rest of their lives. Again, Grand Master Paik and his teaching team do an amazing job. I highly recommend this school!

Paiks Martial Arts/Madison is a phenomenal place. My daughter Carley has been involved with Tae Kwon Do at Paiks since she was a child and is now training for her 3rd Degree Black Belt. Her confidence since joining is 2nd to none. It has been (and still is) a wonderful program to be involved in and the positive influence it has made on her life is outstanding! She has acquired strong leadership skills that have helped shape the person she has become today. At Paiks Martial Arts the instructors teach honor, respect, courage, loyalty, humility, patience, self control and other valuable life lessons that would benefit any child. For this, I want to thank Grand Master Paik and the other instructors. My daughter is a testament for what Paiks Martial Arts can do for your child.

Our son went to Paiks for 3 years. It became clear to us that Master Paik and the staff in general know very little about how to actually empower children. They claim to be teaching children about respect but do it in a disrespectful manner. They admittedly tell children to shut up and and that they are acting like idiots. They may be good at martial arts but are horrible in the way they try to motivate students and in interacting with parents. After 3 years of being part of this community, we decided that this was not the kind of environment we wanted our child exposed to nor the kinds of adults we wanted to interact with.

My son and I practiced at Paiks for over two years. They make you sign a contract that span years. Overall the instruction was okay but the instructors were often distracted and not very enthusiastic. The most troubling item participating in this studio was pay schedule. They give you a contract which is expensive and one thinks well this okay because this is all you will pay. Unfortunately, they have many more fees and whatever contract they provide you should double it to determine the actual overall price you will end up paying. My son and I reached red/black belt (next belt is black) and to renew our contract Master Paik demanded an exorbitant increase in the fees. We decided to just walk away. If Paiks put as much effort into teaching Taekwondo as they do in extracting money from their participants it would be a great facility.

Paik’s Martial Arts, founded in 1971 by Grandmaster Dr. Sang Kee Paik and continued by his son Master Peter Paik. This is *not* your typical “Mc-Dojo” brand of martial arts school that have become all too common.Paik’s offers comprehensive Tae Kwon Do training that will improve discipline, confidence, and strength for students of all ages in a positive and encouraging environment. The instructors possess an exhaustive knowledge of the science behind the techniques. Emphasis is placed on the philosophy behind the art and on practical applications in self-defense. Paik’s instructors are strong role-models for both children and adults.Paik’s students range from casual practitioners to world-class competitors, there is something for everyone here. No class is ever the same twice, so you won’t get bored or stagnant repeating the same routine. There is strong camaraderie with senior students helping younger students. The classes are fun and great exercise with opportunities to learn from a living legend of martial arts. You will get into great physical shape and you will learn how to defend yourself. But equally if not more important is the mental discipline and leadership skills you will acquire.I absolutely recommend contacting Paik’s Martial Arts for free trial classes. There are two convenient locations on east and west side of Madison. I’ve been with the school for almost three years now and I love it. Martial Arts rewards those with the dedication and determination to persevere!

I have many good things to say about Paik’s Traditional Martial Arts. Due to excellent teaching from Master Paik and his other instructors, my son has been challenged physically and mentally. He has learned important life lessons and the meaning of commitment and discipline while competing locally, nationally, and globally. Master Paik continually exposes his students to new ideas and opportunities.Through family classes I have had the opportunity to learn and participate with my son.Beyond the individual benefits to the students, the sense of community at Paik’s is strong. It is a friendly and welcoming place where parents enjoy one another’s company and support one another’s kids.
