Until joining Monkey Bar Gym, I only worked out at traditional gyms where youd show up and run on the treadmill or hopefully make one of their aerobics classes in the afternoon. There was nothing exciting about it and was a boring routine. Monkey Bar Gym is far from boring. The owners are great to work with and extremely knowledgeable. They actually care and want to help you improve/achieve your goals. The classes challenge you and will make you stronger. If youre looking for a new gym to join, this one wont disappoint.

I had an opportunity to train with Jess a few years ago. Her body awareness and ability to teach concepts won me over. Ive been following online for the last few years, and just this year had the chance to drop in to Madison. The way Jon catered to a room full of varied bodies was inspiring. Great coaching, fun movements and genuinely good people.

Extremely knowledgeable and caring owners and training staff. Supportive community of members. Highly effective programing to improve nutrition, aches and pains, strength and conditioning.You can develop a live with program that allows you to continuously improve yourself and increase your own understanding of fitness.Not some macho type of place at all, just a great place to work out according to your needs and abilities. I love it here and the folks who help run it. If you are thinking about functional fitness, plant based nutrition and just being better all around. I dont think there is a better gym anywhere.

I am almost two months into being a member at the Monkey Bar Gym. It has been an incredible journey thus far, particularly the combination of base class with a strong emphasis on alignment and body awareness, paired with strength training classes. The trainers are highly knowledgable in technique, skilled in coaching, and enthusiastic! Feeling stronger and more energetic with each day of training! Jon and the Monkey Bar will change your life! After bouncing between gyms and fitness programs for many years, I tried Monkey Bar about seven years ago and have never looked back. The classes are great, and Jon and his staff are true experts in body mechanics and movement. You wont find a better, healthier workout! I attend regularly and have even signed up my teenage sons, who have also enjoyed and benefited incredibly from their time with Jon each of the past two summers. I cant speak highly enough about MBG!

Being born with Cerebral Palsy, my body has always been extremely off balanced and misaligned. After just a couple of months of doing strength training and following their B.A.S.E. (balance, alignment, strength, extension) program, which is a combination of yoga and strength poses, I’m actually getting a sense of alignment and flexibility that I didn’t think I’d ever experience.Being a part of the gym, you’ll experience a sense of community and an abundance of motivation and support that you won’t find anywhere else. Jon and Jessie Hinds are not only incredible trainers, but they’re a couple of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet.Can’t recommend the Monkey Bar Gym enough!

Ive been coming to MBG for 2 years now! All the trainers are incredible, and I have gotten so much stronger while improving my posture and alignment, which fixed issues I used to have with my back and neck. You will NOT find a gym more focused on form and alignment and getting stronger the RIGHT WAY! Its cross functional training (think Cross Fit) but with much more emphasis placed on form. This will keep you from getting injured, which will keep you going to the gym, which will get you stronger, faster! Also, its fun, and everybody who goes there is super cool!

Awesome gym and workouts! I recently switched over from a franchise gym and couldnt be happier. All of the workouts at MBG are completely customized and rotate constantly so you never feel like youre doing the same workout twice. Jon and the other trainers are deeply committed to all of the members reaching their goals.

Working out at Monkey Bar Gym has helped me get stronger than Ive ever been. Working out here has also significantly reduced my hip pain that I suspect may have been arthritis-- I had the pain for years but it has been cut down to almost zero since I joined in early 2018. The trainers push us to try our hardest during each workout and help us individually as needed. I love the class-based format because it helps keep me motivated and its fun to work out with the other members (who are a fantastic group). I also love the focus on alignment and that we are encouraged to follow a plant-based diet. It can be an intimidating gym at first if you arent already fit, but if you want to get strong, improve your alignment, reduce pain, and avoid injuries while doing so, I encourage you to give it a try!

Going to the classes and working with instructors gets me to push harder than I would on my own. I’m almost 55 and by no means a super athlete, and I can work out at a level that is challenging but doable *for me*. I love MBG!

Hands-down the best gym experience that delivers the results aligned with the effort one puts into each workout. As a 12+ year member, I remain completely energized to get in there to a) improve my physical condition and b) take part in the community that is MBG. In other words, and while it may sound cliche, part of the experience is coming out of a killer workout feeling great as well as having done so together with great people aiming for the same thing. Now, for the training...Jon and Jess take great interest in developing form to allow for continued progression. Every class is varied, allows for the beginner and the advanced athlete to participate in the same workout without any hint of intimidation. I have seen, and know first hand, transformations in the first 18 months that you cannot simply imagine. It does not occur overnight, but steadily and in a manner that keeps you coming back for more.If you want to be pushed and push yourself in the correct way, MBG is THE place; if you want stability in your training, the gyms process completely allows for that too.You will not get bored with this place. *Firstly, not a member.Have wanted to check this place out for a while(year?). However, Ive never seen it open nor have I ever seen anyone inside. I check almost every time I go past, multiple days/evenings throughout the week/weekend. Im outside right now, its supposed to be open. It is not.*No phone # doesnt help.

I started at the Monkey Bar Gym with the 60-day challenge. It is a great way to learn all the basics and get your form down so you can feel confident with every work out. I never thought I would like a gym this much, but I keep coming back after more than three years. I am a 65 y/o man with a history of 5 back surgeries and chronic pain. Ive been in the gym for about 2 months and am in the best shape of my life--and almost pain free. Before focusing on strengthening my body I went through acupuncture, physical therapy, massage therapy with all only helping a little. However, after focusing on a full body workout that also strengthens my core Ive gotten amazing relief. The workouts are tough (which is what I was looking for) but the trainers make sure that they are at your level of functioning and work with you to get the movements right. Because you learn to use very basic equipment (plastic pipe, wheel, and kettle bells, etc) I have been able to duplicate the workouts at home when I cant make it to a class because of work. That said, I am learning all the time and it has helped with things like my pickleball game (I play competitively about 6-10 hours a week)...I noticed in weeks how my play was quicker and stronger. I am at that point where not only do I notice the difference but my wife has commented on it as are colleagues and those I play with on the courts--I am in pants I havent been able to wear for 20 years! LOL Do your favor and give it a try for one month it can be a life changer.

I love this place! Jon, Jess, and the rest of the teachers know an incredible amount about bodies. The environment is welcoming, joyous, and motivating. (In other words, none of the unhealthy machismo here that I associate with gym culture). There are people of all abilities, ages, and shapes. AND as a POC I feel very welcome here. Teachers are so skilled at giving people variations of the exercises, so that everyone is working safely at their own level. I have learned SO much about alignment (like, way more than I learned at yoga teacher training), and I have become MUCH stronger. I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Madison is SO lucky to have Monkey Bar Gym!

Ive been training here for a little over 1 year now. The class-style workouts really help me stay motivated and the trainers have been great. There are classes that focus on building strength, high intensity interval workouts, stability/mobility and Eischens yoga. You will also see some crossover, with the yoga, for example, popping up in ways you might not expect.

The best gym! Great training with a focus on education and meeting people where theyre at. When I started I had to have many of the exercises modified to meet my strength, (I was thin, and had very little muscle mass or knowledge of the exercises) and was so grateful to be lead through different levels as I gained more muscle, ability, and confidence. Ive recently moved out of Madison, WI but carry the things I learned at MBG into my current workouts. Its the best investment I made in my health!The staff is tops and the owners Jon and Jessie are an inspiration. I recommend this gym to all my Madison friends!

Bottom line: Jon Hinds is one the top trainers in the entire country, which makes his Monkey Bar Gym one of the top programs in the entire country. Go ahead, do the homework yourself. Google Jon Hinds. His resume, reputation and credentials are nearly impossible to beat, and the fact that this little gem is right here in Madison, WI is a little unlikely. (It makes me wonder if Madisonites that aren’t training at Monkey Bar understand just what they’re missing!) He’s coached countless pro athletes, and that’s impressive, but his real strength is working with the everyman and everywoman. He has a gift when it comes to helping “regular people” understand fitness & nutrition – how to make it fun, accessible, sustainable and part of your everyday lifestyle. The Monkey Bar Gym is a great place to develop strength, fitness and body awareness. Jon Hinds, the founder of the gym and himself a world-class athlete, has trained everyone from NBA and MLB athletes to the average Joe and Jill. The Monkey Bar teaches a program of body weight and kettle bell strength progressions that can be adapted for all levels- from the couch potato just starting a strength and conditioning program to high level athletes training for college sports and beyond. In fact, within the gym, you will often see people from both sides of this spectrum working out side by side.Along with strength and conditioning the Monkey Bar system incorporates restorative practice training. Eischens Yoga and Mobility-Stability classes teach body awareness and promote active recovery. Balancing strength and conditioning work with restorative work really sets the MBG apart in my mind. It is a key part of the philosophy the gym espouses - that sustainable personal and physical growth is possible throughout the lifespan with hard work balanced by active restorative practice for the mind and body. To me the Monkey Bar exemplifies what physical culture in the 21st century should be about.
