The receptionist is very unprofessional and is operating at a detriment to this school. After several unsuccessful attempts in connecting with the massage school via unreturned voicemails, I was finally able to get thru to someone to book 3 concurrent massage appointments. They were then canceled the night of due to a student testing positive for COVID. The school offered to reschedule the following week. Again the night of, they called to cancel 1 of 3. Once I expressed my frustration they were suddenly able to find another student to conduct the massage so we could all go together. I booked a few more appointments that evening, including 1 for the following Monday (professional) and Tuesday (student). When arriving for the Tuesday appointment I was told I did not have an appointment. (The receptionist is the same person who booked it 5 days prior.) She told me my mom had an appointment in that spot but I did not. My mom never called to schedule an appointment, meaning she booked the wrong person. I was then harassed by the receptionist for not being able to wear a mask. She more or less called me a liar to my face because she said I would have had to wear one on the two previous appointments. I did not, as I’m unable to due to a medical issue not was anything said to me about it. She continued to get louder and argue with me in front of a waiting room full of people. She stated that I was violating the county and school mandates. The county order states you’re not to harass someone for not wearing one but to assume a medical condition. When I said this she got even louder. I finally told her to cancel all my future appointments stating I would not be back and walked out. I’m sorry to the student who could’ve had someone else fill my spot had I been notified ahead of time that I would be required to wear a mask during what was supposed to be my appointment time. Even if I didn’t have a medical condition preventing me from wearing a mask, I can honestly say that I would not have been able to lay face down in a face cradle with a mask on for an hour. I’ve received acupuncture from Dr. Zhou for years, always a positive experience and without issue. I’ve sent many referrals his way. This will however be my last experience with his massage school until they can find the receptionist a replacement.

Words cannot describe my experience at East-West. I am profoundly blessed to have come across this school. Our teachers were true, top-notch therapists. The compassion and support I was given through my difficulties in school was unbelievable. These people really care and knew what I was going through, because they likely also experienced something similar in school. The mark of a true massage therapy school is difficulty and its ability to bring about immense personal introspection, evaluation and resulting lifestyle change. This school has that in spades. Our instructors always sought the best in their students and respected our individuality. They were always extremely encouraging of our individual mindsets, goals, interests, creativity and encouraged us to create our massage by integrating those aspects of ourselves. We were taught the healing arts quite literally; that therapeutic massage is an artistic expression of our love through healing touch.Plus, the curriculum at this school is simply unmatched in the area. No other program is as comprehensive, thorough or honest as East-West.Dr. Zhou has his critics, but his serious drive to help others has always remained evident to me in working with him. He is endearing and playful at the right moments while also very intentional in giving his best work for those who seek it. Level with him and he will level with you.

East West changed my life! I completed the massage program here and I feel it is very precious for a growing field in health care. I will use my degree in many different venues in a spa,. animal, and hospice massage! I learned about the value of self-care and serving others with bodywork. The instructors are stellar and very helpful. Thank-you East West!

I have received massages from Porter every other week for a couple years. He is one of the best massage therapist I have experienced in Madison. He always checks in at the beginning to see if there are any problem areas that need special attention that day. He does good deep work. We chat a bit at the beginning followed mostly by silence and soft music. Porter graduated from the school six years ago so he is part of the staff of professional massage therapist as opposed to the students at the school who give inexpensive massages in the clinic for practice. However, they offer reasonable packages for massages with their professionals

One of the reasons I love East West is the integrated curriculum. Not only are you learning the well-known Swedish techniques, but the Chinese techniques and philosophies as well—a side of massage that is often ignored in the Western culture. It really widens the students’ horizons and opens their eyes to viewing a client’s situation or condition in different ways. Learning acupressure points from there was one of the most beneficial things I could have ever done.I also love East West because of how it treats its students. It is a much smaller school than normal, but the staff and students are so close-knit because of it, and it’s a wonderful thing. The school actually has a staff who cares, who works with you to your individual needs, who will not hesitate to make sure you succeed, regardless of how life is treating you at the moment. The school system is flexible and the teachers are willing to work with you. You are made sure you are successful and are provided with opportunities of employment before you even graduate. It is an amazing wonderful experience you will not have at any larger or standard school.

I had scheduled an appointment a week in advance, only to be notified less with a couple hours notice that my appointment was cancelled due to the student calling in sick. No sincere attempt was made to try to reschedule me or offer me a discount on a future service. I asked the receptionist very politely if other students were available but she rudely answered that they were all booked. That was false - there were other appointments available and she didnt care enough to check.I feel that given that theres the expectation of a 24 hour notice for clients, if there are any cancellations on their, they should try to make an honest effort to reschedule and accommodate cancellations on their end.

I have been going for student massages for years. Almost all of the students have been some of the best massages that I have had. They are well trained to find specific problem areas from the pre massage talk. Considering that the student massages are half the cost of most professional massages, and they do a better job, I will continue to be a client for the foreseeable future.

Had a great experience with Kathryn. We spoke about my target areas and she proceeded with giving me a phenomenal massage. I am used to western massages, and found this technique to be different. She found the specific areas that were bothering me (by touch and by our talking) and then worked to gently resolve the problems. Im anxious to get back :)

Terri, the administrator, is unrelenting, firm and highly scrupulous in her professionalism, and wants the same for the school. She is the hardest working person I know. Her knowledge of all aspects of massage therapy, sincerity, empathy, organizational skills, jam-packed schedule and her ability to juggle (usefully, I might add) these at once, are mystifying. She has single-handedly ushered this school into its peak.I love East-West and will never forget my time there. It has changed my life and introduced me to my path as a healer and a successful business person. These words only scratch the surface of how grateful I am for this place.

The integration of different modalities by students and professionals is unparalleled! A student halfway through this school is better than most professionals graduated from any other school. East West is a very special place

Ive had back pain since I was a competitive athlete. I dealt with it most of my life. I tried chiropractic, PT, western medicine and the only thing that gave me lasting relief was Dr Zhao and acupuncture. Since I came to EW i have not experienced pain, and I am running again. Best health care decision I have made in the last 40 years.
