My son started taking lessons from Rob since he was 8, he is now a freshman in the honors band at CBHS. My son didnt know anything about drums but now plays that and a few more instruments. The Academy is great for beginners all the way up to pros. The staff has always been great and helpful. So glad to see this place growing and expanding.

As a 52 year old new drummer the learning experience was incredible! In just 4 lessons Rob had me sitting across from him and we played several oldies on the drums. His technique is easy to understand and very easy to comprehend. I highly recommend the A.P.A for students of all ages.

Rob and his staff are very professional but at the same time very open, friendly and laid back. I have nothing but great things to say about the entire staff. Rob, Brandon and Colby are all excellent percussionists and teachers. Im looking forward to my son being in the drum set and marching band camps this year and so is he. Rob has always been very accommodating with the lesson schedule. Even when a mistake was made (turns out it was on our end) he went above and beyond to fix it. I heard another conversation between Rob and another mother and was so impressed in how he handled the situation that it was one of the many reasons I have chosen to keep my son at APA for camps and lessons. I KNOW he is a person of high integrity and will do the right thing for the customer. I HIGHLY recommend APA for drum lessons, drum sets and accessories. They can help your child with All West as well as marching band as they have helped my son. Thank you Rob, Colby and Brandon for teaching my son percussion - I would give 10 stars if I could! :o)

Theres no doubt in my mind that this was the place I was supposed to be taking lessons. I always will recommend this place to anyone who is interested in learning. From beginners to professionals, anyone can learn from the fantastic educators at APA. I wouldnt be the player I am today without them.

This is the best drum shop/academy in the city. Robert is a kind hearted and gentle man that I hold only in the highest regard. His wife is also a dream angel. (You will need to visit the shop to understand that joke of hers.) I have been at taking drum lessons at the academy for over a year and due to his rigorous training I was able to not only triple my current playing abilities and learn basic music theory, but also was admitted to the finest musical institutions in the world (Berklee, Loyola and Belmont)! He is someone who puts others before himself and I would not trade my experience I have had with him.

Love APA! Every kid I ever see there is happy, not to mention they also sound great on the drums and you can definitely tell theyre on the road to bigger things. APA is more than just a place to learn the drums, its a school of fun, self-discipline, and inspiration.

Robert and his team at APA are among the best in Memphis! There’s nothing else like it in this town. They teach all styles of percussion, making sure the students can both read music and play by ear. I have twins boys enrolled at APA & AIA and they absolutely love it! They have grown musically by leaps and bounds during the past year. APA & AIA are truly instructing people for what they need to succeed now, and for the future. Year after year kids get music scholarships to top schools all over the country, being thoroughly prepared by their program. I’m really glad our kids are a part of this great school!

The best place to go for drums and percussion lessons in Memphis.

I cant say enough positive things about APA and what Rob and his staff have done for my son and daughter. My son has taken drum lessons from Rob for years and my daughter has taken flute lessons from APA whenever her schedule allows. Both of my children have improved tremendously by these lessons. My kids love coming to APA. My son, in particular, begs to attend every camp and clinic Rob offers throughout the year for extra instruction. Rob is in continual contact with the various schools and makes sure his lessons are not only geared to make sure its enjoyable for the student but also that the music thats worked on has them prepared for any auditions, performances or specific areas of concentration needed. His priority is the student and it shows in every lesson!

I started taking lessons about a year ago and i think Ive improved a TON from then to now all thanks to this academy and i have to say I have quite a lot more friends and people to talk with about music or other things like science or tv shows and its awesome and its because these people are very cool and rad and i think ayone who wants to lear drums should go here and dive in because i would think this is the place to do it 0u0
