Speaking as a former graduate I wanna say that this school is INTENSE!!! They have amazing programs and classes that can really challenge your child to work at high school levels, but thats if your kid is able to keep up. If your kid isnt able to keep up with the massive amounts of work, high expectations, and negative atmosphere then they will flop...HARD! This school is not great at helping kids that are lagging behind. Plus, some of the staff, especially the principle, can be pretty rude to students. Many teachers carry over there intense Chinese learning methods. Plus, Im not sure if the principle is the same as when I attended, but she was ...lets say...not the best. I remember one day she yelled at the whole class saying, and I quote, All of you are going nowhere in life! Overall, this school cares more about its looks over how it actual treats it students and staff. Id say if you want your child to really be pushed to the brink then put them here but if you want a more caring, understandable, and more enjoyable environment for your kids then this isnt a good choice. Again, I graduated a few years ago so things could be different now but I doubt it.

Had a great experience here, lots of competition and high expectations. Some of the greatest teachers too. But I’ll like to inform everyone about one kindergarten teacher who made my experience terrible. We went to the 2019 China trip. She publicly embarrassed students including myself. Behind my back, she would tell people that my singing sounded bad and called me a brat. She was rude and downright mean. She would also take advantage of her position as the teacher and tell me I didn’t know what I was saying/doing. Thanks Mrs. Nelson for letting your true colors show!

Do not ever send your children to this school. The administrators only care about the schools public image and nothing else. I found that the principle is very harsh towards students and often lies. This school focuses on being ahead in education so much that often the material is just skimmed over and not actually taught leaving out lots of key information which can cause students to be very confused later in highschool.

This school take the students advantage of being here by using them and making them feel bad . On the China trip they made students help pay for teachers tickets . In class teacher would humiliate students in front of everyone , and would hit them

Matthew (one star commented below), I would suggest attending Northeast Park neighborhood meetings so you can keep up with the changes to our neighborhood. The trees you mention were taken down due to emerald ash borer as part of the ongoing updates to Northeast Park, not at the behest of the school community. As a Northeast Park resident, I dislike traffic as much as the next person, but as a community we can come together on how to best handle it. The school staff work tirelessly to manage it, but it is part of city life.YA is a top notch, innovative school and an asset to the Northeast Park neighborhood and community.

If you want a great education and full Chinese (Mandarin) immersion school, no other is better. It is one of the top school in Minnesota, winning the national Blue Ribbon and other numerous award. Very intense schooling, meaning they wont go easy on school work and homework. Your kid(s) will be very well verse both in English and Mandarin once they graduate. Youll be surprise how much fun you and your student(s) going to this unique school. Again, like no other. I highly recommend this school and a rare 5 STAR rating!

Wonderful K-8 tuition free public school. Enrollment is open to any child who resides in any Minnesota school district.

I have had a student go all the way through the school : K-8th and have a student there currently. No school is perfect, but I would definitely give YA, 5 stars. The strong points and intentions definitely outweigh some minon shortcomings. Children learn respect, strong work ethics and study skills, time efficiency and build strong friendships. I would highly recommend Yinghua Academy and I believe strongly in Immersion schools.

Yinghua is a full immersion Mandarin Chinese public charter school.My daughter has been going to Yinghua for a month now and she loves it. She has very little problem understanding her teachers because of the exaggerated hand and body language accompanying the new language. Most of what she has learned in the first month is songs, numbers, and phrases like May I go to the bathroom. I can really see how young childrens minds are hard-wired for understanding languages.I first heard about Yinghua Academy last February. My wife found out about Yinghua from its website and reputation. I went to a parental meet and greet that was supposed to solidify our choice against Yinghua because of how far away Yinghua is from our home (25 miles). The teachers and mission of the school impressed me so much that my wife and I found a way to make the school work. Luckily, I work in downtown Minneapolis and could drive my daughter in the morning.Im very impressed with the professionalism of the administrative staff and the enthusiasm of the teachers. Everybody currently involved with Yinghua seem to really want to make this charter school work.Yinghua seems to embody every hope and ideal that created public charter schools in Minnesota. They are able to create their own curriculum yet still be held accountable to standardized tests.

Kids who go there learn calculus starting in 5th grade. One of these children is my son. I love this school, and would strongly recommend it for your children!

I have 2 daughters at yinghua and its just so much fun. The teachers are great the students are friendly and you get to learn a different language.

This school is the best. My kids go there and are thriving.

As a former student: It was okay here, learned a lot and learned about manners and politeness. Some practices during my time there werent the best. The humiliation part and yelling from teachers are true. I didnt take it the bad way though. The teachers truly want you to be a good individual, but maybe should work on the delivery.
