Gulf Coast Jiu Jitsu has been one of the best experiences for our kids.We didn’t have any expectations when we started Jiu Jitsu with Mr Corey and his team but what we realized was we found gold! Not only is Mr Corey spot on with his technique but the way he breaks down the life skills for the kids is perfect. They have learned how to have physical base and emotional base, self defense and kindness, respect for others and them selves. With Mr Corey, they learned real quick about respect in the class room. His attention to the smallest detail is what commands respect. He consistently corrects and praises. As a mom I so appreciate how he respects the kids. Never once raising his voice but always following through with expectations and praise for meeting expectations. He emphasizes on the energy in the room and teaches them how to handle their excess energy appropriately. That was one of the first things they learned, was how to manage their energy. I watched as Mr Corey helped my 5 year old navigate her anxiousness being in a new place with new expectations. As a mom, I wanted to jump in and explain that she was nervous. But I didn’t have to. The moment she hit overwhelm he spotted it, got down on her level and helped her cope through it. She was able to verbalize that she didn’t know what was expected of her and he clarified instructions and encouraged her the whole way. From that moment on, I was sold. As a mom I appreciate the attentiveness to each child and their needs.I have watched them blossom and come out of their shell with Mr Corey and his team. He knows just how to guide each of them.If you’re thinking about joining, you won’t regret it!Sincerely,A mom who is so sad to be moving away from such a wonderful light in her kids life.

Great place to take your child to learn respect and confidence and defending themselves. The instructor Corey has the perfect mixture of discipline and patience with the kids. In the first week my son was showing improvement not only on the mat but at home as well. Highly recommend.

Great place to train. They allowed me to drop in and train when I was down here on vacation. The academy is very clean and friendly and Prof. Richardson takes the time with everyone so they more fully understand the movements. Great place to train will definitely be going back.

Signed up after our first trial class because Corey Richardson was great with the kids. A perfect balance of patience and firmness. Mr. Corey definitely knows his stuff and teaches not only proper technique and skills, but also helps kids develop character skills to be respectful and upstanding individuals for well rounded success in life. I’m honored we get to participate in his class!

Corey Richardson is a great instructor. He sets the tone for a positive environment and gives his best to provide quality instruction. During my time at the academy, I made friends, but more importantly, I discovered my attitude has become more positive and have seen an increase in my self-esteem. Corey showed me how much I loved Jiu-Jitsu and how important it is that it remains in my life forever. I highly recommend the academy!

My son Ivan enjoys his jiu-jitsu 3 times a week. $119 per month. Corey, the instructor, has degree in psychology, and is absolutely great with children and teens. Also, gulf cost jiu-jitsu is in a walking distance from Lennys sub, nail salon, Navigator bank, title company... something I get my nails done when Ivan is taking his class. Sometimes I go shopping to Winn Dixie during that time. Great shopping area.

Ive been to a lot of different Jiu-jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling schools over the years. Ive seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. I know how a terrible instructor acts and behaves towards his or her students.I can safely say that after having trained with Sensei Corey for over a year now, that he knows his stuff. He is one of the few Jiu Jitsu instructors that is hands on, and will actually train and roll with his students. He creates an environment and atmosphere that is exciting for the children and a great workout for the adults. If youre looking for somewhere to get a fantastic workout all while learning REAL Jiu Jitsu for self-defense and competition, then this is the place for you!

The level of instruction is obviously top notch. For instance, I trained/rolled with one of the 2 stripe white belts and I could feel a big difference when compared to others schools of higher belts. Also, the instructor didnt just teach technique, but had great explanations of the principles behind them. To date this has been the best school Ive attended. If you want to learn how to defend yourself the old proven way this is your school if you live less than an hour away...its worth the drive. This kind of school is hard to find and Mr. Corey Richardson will show you the original real way of GJJ.

Gulf Coast Jiu Jitsu is an amazing facility because they have an amazing owner/head instructor/teacher. Corey Richardson is a unique individual who is flush with incredible jiu jitsu knowledge but who can also teach. He cares for his students and is truly invested in their learning of real world self-defense and the gentle art of BJJ. The kids classes are fantastic as well. I travel the south east US and have been to many BJJ gyms. This is the one I look forward to visiting most! Do yourself a favor, get in there.
