Friends Seminary is considered one of the best private schools in United States. Founded in 1786 by the Religious Society of Friends, whose members are known as Quakers, the school is the oldest continuously coeducational school in New York City. The schools mission is to prepare students “not only for the world that is, but to help them bring about the world that ought to be.” Friends Seminary is a member of New Yorks Independent School Diversity Network, and diversity is a key part of its educational philosophy.
