My 2 year old toddler loved the Saturday class where there was singing and dancing but also incorporating some martial arts drills for fine motor skills and listening. He was totally exhausted and ready for his nap! Highly recommend!

Staff is so friendly, and informative. My autistic son attends here and has made great improvements in behavior and movement. Theyre great with kids and family oriented. We also love the special events they have not just for the members, but the community. Best decision for my son !

The “all in one” in family fitness! My husband and 4 years old son get 2 taekwondo classes a week and I get a break from my lovely 1 year old with their separation-childcare fitness classes. They have the perfect layout for you to disconnect from your baby for little bit, while still being able to check her out through the windows connecting the classroom (where you are kicking) and the playroom (where your baby is having a blast playing with a babysitter who signs better than Mary Poppins!). As for my 4 year old, they are teaching him a big deal about listening and focusing, the perfect skills set for kids of his age. Furthermore, the studio is clean and all baby proof. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly as the rest of the staff. Highly recommended!

We attended a play date at the Studio. The space is airy and clean. There is a great playroom for young kids/siblings, with a lot of fun toys and activities. The instructors were warm while also easily getting the children to follow their instructions. Our daughter really enjoyed getting to break a board! There was a really comfortable and warm family feel to everyone at the studio - I chatted with a mom waiting with her son for his class, and she was friendly and helpful. The studio was also easily accessible from the subway, and on the ground floor (easy for families with strollers, etc.)

How can we not love this martial arts studio? Their teachers are great with my kid, and the playroom is top notch! What a wonderful idea! They also have babysitting, and a window between the studio and the playroom so if I am taking a class, I can keep an eye on my kid. Love this place. You can also just come for the playroom, they have baby playtime classes, and its also just a wonderful play space to be in during the cold winter months, and its cheaper than Union Square. The owners are really family and community oriented, they want to make things work. They are so passionate and patient.

Shout out to Master Yu :) They also offer private lessons, which is a plus! Clean facilities and overall extremely professional. I highly recommend!

My daughter loves her martial arts class! She looks forward to coming every week - both Master Awesome and Master Yu are fantastic and patient instructors. My son has also taken classes with Sophie who is fantastic with the young ones! We love the studio so much - there aren’t many family friendly, child focused studios in Soho, and we were very happy to find them! I highly recommend checking them out.

This is an amazing addition to the neighborhood. My daughter and I have both taken martial arts classes there. I have found the studio to be clean and inviting, and the staff to be warm and engaging. We enjoyed the experience so much that we decided it would be the best place to host my daughters 4th birthday party. Master Yu and Jose, who I personally requested, guided the children through fun activities, and the kids were super excited to get the chance to break a board at the end. I received a lot of compliments from the other parents for giving their kids such a fun and unique experience.

I came across this gym and saw they were offering classes in the Filipino martial art, Kali. I was sold after finding out this was the martial art used in the Jason Bourne Trilogy. After my first class, the most bizarre realization occurred while talking to the Kali Grand Master, Master Jojo Ron. I found out that Master Jojo was my Taekwondo instructor some 20+ years ago in the Philippines! After taking just one class with Master Jojo, you will see how effective this martial art really is in a life threatening situation. The self-defense techniques taught here will save your life if the situation ever came up. The movements are easy to learn and I highly encourage everyone to give these classes a shot because there is no price too expensive or time more valuable if it means saving your own life.

For his 5th birthday, our son wanted a Karate party. So, of course, we were going to throw him the best possible Karate party that we could. I came across Martial Arts Family Studio and placed a call. I initially connected with Master Yu and then spoke with Sandra to hash through the details. This being the first big party we were throwing for our son, I felt a lot of pressure to deliver. Sandra made everything easy – she was accommodating, reassuring, and informative as she walked me through the options. The entire process couldn’t have been smoother, which is a blessing with some many other things to focus on.Now, to the party: Master Yu, a black belt assistant, and Sandra arrived on time, got set up, and immediately captured the focus of more than 15 little kids with some sweet tornado kicks and board breaking that elicited some amazed screams. Next, my boy was brought up in front of all of his friends and was taught some moves of his own and broke a few of his own boards as his friends cheered on. He was ecstatic! They made him feel so special on the day he had been anticipating for 364 days. Every single kid got to get up to break their own board, which was a great photo/video opp for all the other parents. Seriously, we got so many compliments from the other parents about the karate performance and how much fun it was. They wrapped up the show and made sure that every kid got a goodie bag.I can’t recommend Martial Arts Family Studio enough. Sandra was so easy to work with. Master Yu and his assistant were engaging, which, is no small task for kids of their age. Overall, just really good people, easy to work with, and our boy and his friends couldn’t have been happier. I highly recommend this dojo.PS. I’ll be posting this same review on yelp and elsewhere, just for transparency.

I participated in a board breaking session for a parents’ night out at MAFS. The instruction from Master Yu, Master RV, and Master Jojo instilled confidence in our group of novice adults. All of us broke our boards on the first try!The facility is new and clean. The play room is welcoming and has windows to the main studio. I’m looking forward to taking advantage of childcare for my baby as I take a kickboxing cardio class. Maybe if I can sneak off one evening I can try the self-defense class too.

My entire family of 4 has been training at the family studio since September 2018. The Family Studio is one of a kind since it provides a variety of martial arts disciplines under one roof taught by exceptionally qualified instructors. Masters Rv and Yu are highly respected in the sport and have an impressive following among young black belt athletes. Master JoJo Ron is a legend in both Taekwondo and Kali, having trained a number of outstanding wold class athletes who now run some famous schools in California and Philippines. For all their impressive achievements, Family Studio instructors are very approachable and friendly. They are very enthusiastic about the sport they represent and everyone from beginners to advanced black belts get individual attention during classes. The classes are fun and practical. There is a lot of emphasis on cardio as well as practical self defense which is a rare combination among martial arts studios in the area. The adult student body in the evening program is generally young (teens to early 20s) which makes classes fast paced and energetic. I also have a 9-year old and a 5-year old (boy and girl) in the kids program. Both kids love the school. The boy is a beginner in Kali while the girl is a beginner in Taekwondo. The 5-year old has shown amazing progress in following instructors commands in a very short period of time. I attribute this success to masters skill and experience in teaching children with differing enthusiasm and abilities. I am very excited about becoming a part of the MAFS training program and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their fitness as well as learn some practical and effective self defense.

I cant say enough about the people and the untitled movement class at MAFS! Jessica Rabanzo-Flores leads the untitled movement class at here and it gets me from the UES to SOHO once a week because its so good! Jessica blends dance, strength training, some HIIT, and a touch of yoga in each class, and switches up the routine every ~1-2 weeks to keep you on your toes. She also guides us through the mind-body connection throughout the class so you feel grounded no matter what level you are (I have 0 dance/HIIT experience) and you end the class feeling stronger, refreshed, and confident. Its one hell of a fun work-out too!The MAFS studio also has the flexibility to accommodate those days when I have no childcare which is a huge plus. Each time I walk into the studio Im greeted with such warmth and cheer from all the other martial arts instructors, even if I dont have a class with them.Disclaimer: Although I am friends with the owner, I cant say enough about how the studio cultivates a sense of inclusion, flexibility, and community. I highly recommend untitled movement at MAFS!
