From the day 1 beginner to the professional athlete, Unity is one of the most inclusive and inviting atmospheres youll ever find at an NYC gym. Owner, Murilo Santana, and all of the teaching staff have a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to share with you. I would highly recommend dropping in for a free trial class. Unity is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Truly an embodiment of their motto: hard work by good people.

I was fortunate to spend both June and July of this year training at Unity Jiu Jitsu. The instruction is excellent (as expected), but I was shocked on how friendly and nice everyone is at the gym. All the instructors and staff knew my by the end of my second week training there. The students at the gym are also super friendly as well. The training is very intense, but I never felt in danger while rolling at full intensity there. I would 100% recommend anyone interested in training BJJ to checkout Unity.

Prior to coming here (a smaller female), I had a lot of anxieties and concerns, but after the first class, I was hooked. Prof. Murillo and other higher belts provided professional and top-notch training. There is a genuine sense of community and respect here. Everyone is helpful, encouraging and genuinely nice. This is where I refer everyone. Unity makes this small fry feel safe swimming in the ocean.

I went for a trial practice and was very fortunate to come in on a day working stand up technique. This place is a real Jiu Jitsu gym with solid floor space, staff and accommodations. The pacing of the class was just right with the balance between technique and endurance. The students there were very easy to work with and I felt very comfortable in the environment. Overall I would rate this higher than the competing gyms Ive been to elsewhere in the city in all around quality of environment.

I was visiting NYC from St.Cloud, FL and had to stop by Unity after having some of their competitors visit my home gym. If you are in NYC or just visiting definitely drop by Unity you will not regret it.

A world class facility full of world class instruction from both male and female instructors. The head coach Murilo Santana is truly one of the most knowledgeable practitioners in this art that you can come across worldwide. The school caters to all levels (competitor, hobbyist, total beginner) and walks of life, super inclusive and a variety of classes available in both the gi and nogi. Classes daily at a wide range of times - its easy to make it fit in with your work/school commitments.I moved across the world to train here from England/Hong Kong and I never looked back. I am really enjoying my experience at Unity. I feel like they definitely followed through on their goal to make this a community. They could not have picked a more fitting name for their gym. Everyone is so knowledgeable and friendly. I haven’t really met anyone who is stuck up yet. Unity Jiu Jitsu is a really great school. Its tidy, has very large mat space, a work out area, and the instructors are gregarious, and very knowledgeable. The training is very good, and the students all have a great attitude. There are showers, and their schedule works perfectly around a 10-6 workday. Theyre conveniently located right off a train stop, so you dont have to walk a long way to get there if its raining. I would definitely recommend this school if youre interested in great instruction, and training.

Just joined Unity recently but it has been an awesome experience from the first day I walked in. The front desk staff were more than welcoming and helpful with understanding how unitys schedule works and their different memberships despite the many questions I had. The other members at unity are really open and cool people and I really feel the family atmosphere since everyone is so kind. The instructors have also been top notch. As someone new to BJJ, I was a bit nervous going in because of my inexperience. But the instructors in the foundations and white belt classes have a very thought out and structured curriculum. In the more general classes with other belts, white belts are helped out by instructors and also more experienced members to correct technique. Lisander and Anthony especially have been really helpful with providing me with extra instruction and focus when I needed it on some of my techniques. Other reviews have also said it, but Murilos ability to remember your name and give you his focus even as a new belt is very admirable given his stature and accomplishments in BJJ.Whatever your reasons are for starting BJJ, unity is hands down the place to come if you are in NYC.

Unity is a great community of hardworking good people who love jiujitsu. Its one of the best bjj schools in NYC and under the tutelage of Murilo Santana and his instructors, your bjj will definitely excel. I came here as a blue belt that was actually just a white belt in skill in 2017 and under Junny, I have become a much better practitioner. Although its really difficult sometimes, I appreciate the intensity and the high standards that students here are held to.I see a couple of 1 star reviews here and would like to take a moment to respond. In particular the person who didnt even have the mettle to use his real name and goes by deez nutz.Murilo has been hosting multiple zoom classes for his students weekly during the whole of the pandemic and offering private sessions to paying students as well. He consistently goes above and beyond for his students and the gym and cares deeply for their progress not only in jiujitsu but in life as well. Given the circumstances with the pandemic and to ensure safety, most students have chosen specific people in their sphere to train with. If deez nuts wanted to train so badly Im sure he could have found a group to train with. Additionally, if he is unhappy with paying for classes he cannot take, he could just simply NOT pay and cancel his membership. It is unfortunate that we are dealing with a pandemic and everyone wishes to get back to a normal training situation, but it seems unfair to hurt an already struggling small business with a negative review that has been forced to be close for the last 6 months as a result of poor political leadership. If you dont like it, believe in this community or have an interest in supporting it, you may leave. No one is forcing you to stay, deez Nutz.

I was extremely impressed by Murilo taking the time to remember my name and help me on my technique specifically. After my first class I told registration I wanted to check out the other gyms in the city and they thought that was a great idea. After checking out three other gyms I made my decision to join Unity because it had the best blend of competition, teaching, welcoming environment as well as working with me on a plan that fit me best. I have been training two weeks and could not be happier with my decision. Really looking forward to this upcoming year.

Everybody works hard and you can expect to be pushed no matter what your skill level is. Ive trained at a few places in NYC and I liked them all but Unity has been my favorite so far. Want to be a pro grappler? They have world class instructors, resident athletes, and students who are going to go on to be big names in grappling you can train with on a regular basis. There is also a large core of students who compete regularly. Are you a busy person and just doing jiu jitsu for fun? They are open every day so its easy to fit some bjj into your week and unlike at some schools, Murilo (the head instructor) focuses on particular themes and techniques over a long time with a lot of attention to detail, so you wont be clueless if you miss a day here or there. Also, the level of attention and coaching youll get is extremely high even if you are just a casual bjjer. Dont think that all of the instructors attention is on the higher level guys and competitors: the balance and atmosphere here works for everyone of all levels.
