As an guy who last played music in high school, I was looking around in New York for evening classes to pick up on my (somewhat rusty) piano, (almost nonexistent) guitar, and (totally untrained) singing skills. Where better to combine these than at the School of Rock? I signed up to some summer jam sessions and immediately signed up again with the adult program - individual lessons and supervised band rehearsals.Friendly and fun, the teachers and staff are always accommodating and contribute to a happy, relaxed atmosphere. Performance nerves ebb away as our band improves in rehearsals. At our live performance we rock out at the legendary Bitter End!

This School of Rock on the UES is just awesome! Our son has been taking drums there for a few years now so we had already drunk the Kool Aid, so to speak, but during this time of remote learning, I wasnt sure how or if it would work. But they have more than stepped up and erased any doubts I may have had. In fact, we signed our daughter up for remote lessons too and plan to enroll her in person when the world opens up again. And I, who has absolutely no music experience what so ever and am significantly older than the typical SOR clientele, started taking remote guitar lessons with them too. Im so impressed with the quality of the instructors, the flexibility of the staff and the sense of community they have enveloped at this difficult time. Feels more like a Family of Rock than a school!

School of Rock has changed my son’s life! He found his thing in drumming. He started with private lessons, quickly moved on to Rock 101 and has now done 4 performance groups. He loves the music he has learned (David Bowie, Beastie Boys, Beck, Fleetwood Mac, The Cure, Tina Turner, Heart etc). His teachers have been fantastic and the program is well run. I recommend School of Rock (upper East Side) to all my friends!

We love everything about the program. The SOR manhattan is a wonderfully creative, supportive, and thoughtful experience for kids. They really encourage kids to take chances , try new things and work towards common goals. They program is remarkable in that it helps the kids gain confidence and feel capable of success. It also happens to be an extraordinary wonderful place to learn about music, instrumental skills and performance. Lastly, I will say the people who work there are magnificent. They are kind, dedicated to the kids and fabulous teachers.

My son has been a student at the school of rock for 6 years and we have had an absolutely wonderful experience there. I was looking for an avenue for him to play with more experienced students and the SOR was the perfect place to learn collaboration, community, and be exposed to to music that we love and want to pass along to the next generation of musicians and fans. The staff are uniformly excellent! I would recommend this program to parents without qualification.

If School of Rock had existed when I was a kid, I would be a rock star. This place is incredible. Playing music with other people is many multiples better than rote lessons. My kid wasn’t naturally inclined to music, but fell in love wIth it at SOR.

Here is what I wrote in November of 2014 (on Yelp)As a parent of a college student (as well as a middle schooler), I have had the opportunity to evaluate first-hand many programs for children in our community. All I can say is the my mind has been blown here. My son was hesitant to perform in a group nevermind before an audience when he joined “Rolling Stones” in September. Thanks to instantly making friends with a bunch of wonderful kids his age and being welcomed by the director Bob, not only does he now look forward to Thursday afternoons—he also performed at the Bitter End last Saturday in front of maybe 150 people. His private drum teacher has told me he is about a year ahead of what she had projected for this Fall. All I care about is his sense of confidence, pleasure in drumming and in his new friendships with other musicians his age. I am so glad to be a part of School of Rock and expect we will for a long time. Nina Freund (mother and and child psychiatrist). Here is what I have to say now:I recently re-read my review from last year and I would say that my raves then are even more warranted now. School of Rock has changed my sons life for the better. He has entered the cycle in which learning is fun so you practice and as you practice you get better and as you get better you get recognition (from teachers/director/peers) and as you get recognition . . you enjoy what you are doing more! So--his drumming has improved tremendously as has his confidence and his identity as a musician. In the meantime--he is having a blast. Last night when I went to pick him up after rehearsal he and the gang were all grins-clowning around while waiting to rehearse. They have a tight bond and support each other. I can only speak of our director (Bob)-he is the Mary Poppins of rock education. The kids are great, the directors are great, the shows are great. I am so happy to have this program in our lives.

Incredible, the level of production of Broadway musicals has nothing to do with the best musicals in Spain. If you are looking for a musical on Broadway, this to go with children is great and also for adults. It is worth paying what is worth because it is a unique experience that you will not live in any musical in Spain. Decorated mobiles and a scenography in continuous movement and some children that is surprising to see how they are so talented being so young.
