Superb school. The teachers know our children well and teach them in ways that reflect each ones individual style and interests. The school creates an atmosphere in which the students love to learn.

I have a son in Kindergarden at Calhoun (where he also did the 4s), my daughter is starting there next year and I have been helping on a volunteer basis to teach creative writing in Calhoun Middle School for a few years now.My husband and I did extensive research on several private schools in NYC before choosing Calhoun for our family. We couldnt be happier with this school. The class sizes are small. The kids get a very high amount of personal attention. The teachers are highly skilled, utilizing a progressive approach that meets the kids rightwhere they are in order to build the lesson out, driven by the childs curiosity and personal understanding. We are a mixed race family and it was a great confront when we first started at Little Calhoun and saw that there are plenty of other mixed families. Our son is very shy by nature and we were worried about him getting lost in the shuffle of a busy classroom because hes so quiet. Hes also deeply sensitive and hyper aware of social rejection. My heart absolutely melted when he started coming home with stories of all the friends hes made and the experiments they do together in class. After observing the high quality teaching and extra personal attention given to each kid, I can say with confidence that our son is flourishing due to Calhouns unusually supportive and challenging environment. Now our son is coming home showing off some solid early reading skills, telling us stories about Martín Luther King and his ideas about what it takes to have a fair society. He is happy every day at school and he is absolutely thriving.I couldnt recommend the school more highly. We are so grateful for Calhoun.

Another private school that pays lip service to diversity while ensuring that the prohibitive tuition and bare bones assistance programs all but preclude it. I would not suggest that any parent suffer the indignities of the lame duck, Pecksniffian minority admissions program.
