Well this school isn’t good at all. I started online schooling due to the pandemic and some of the teachers weren’t helpful or understanding. I was going through some hard times through the pandemic and I ask one of my teachers for help and they told me to go to the library to do my work during a pandemic also I recently moved to a whole other state so I know no other places and I had covid before so I was kinda scared to go outside. Also they give A TON of work in one period of a time it really made me unproductive and very stressed also they didn’t give many opportunities to gain more credit in order to pass. However they are many helpful and supportive people like my math and science teachers they understood my predicament. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this school for any child or especially if they have mental illness

The school has horrible online learning. Some of the teachers don’t even attend there own classes. Not only that they will join 15 min later or more. And then they wanna say we should’ve completed this assignment today. There’s to much work at once sometimes to and they won’t even let you make up assignments sometimes if you do attend this school you need a parent to support 100 percent and we have classes twice a week here yes twice a week I think I got dumber going to the school.

Honestly, people need to look at the times these post were made about FDA some of them are form 5 or 4 even 3 years ago and a lot has changed. I am a current student here at FDA class of 2016 and honestly, I wouldnt have wanted to go anywhere else for my high school career. Im not gonna lie FDA hasnt been an angel sent form heaven to teach your children, but there is a new Principal instilled that has made so many changes to this school. What people need to realize that if your child is doing mad that is their fault not the school. FDA has provided me with so much opportunities I honestly wouldnt even believe I would have been apart of ranging from full ride opportunities to take classes in Boston on Phillips Academy Campus through (MS)2 to being able to take both AP classes and FREE college classes through college now. Yes, there are fights in school, kids do smoke in the bathroom, and get detention for not wearing the right uniform but its not something you see every day or every lunch period. Things like this are really rare now that Gates is the principal. He is very approachable, friendly with the students, but he does rule with an iron fist. Ive even seen him walk students who are cutting to their classes...that not something you see everyday.FDA is a great school with many opportunities. It definitely prepares you for college and a chance to reduce the cost of college. Students just need to network, be cautious of dead lines, and go into FDA with goals for what they want. If you know what you want in life and its success you wouldnt fall into the wrong crowd or turn from a 90 student to 58 like Snow Frost claimed from 3 years ago. Im proud that I went to FDA you just have to know what you want in your education and go for it.Go FDA Lions!!

Been there. Teachers tortured my grades ever since i got there. As soon as i switched schools my grades became 80s and higher, and i put in the same effort in both schools. Uniform seemed to be more important to the principle than learning was. Hopefully the new principle makes FDA a good school again.

This school seemed to be a good fit for my daughter when I went to the open house and met with a few of the students and teachers. I was bought into when they mentioned all the good activities and programs they offer for children looking to go into college, but after hearing few people who went here and teachers who worked here saying the same thing that they have a drug problem in the school with the high school kids and how there are always fights really changed my mind about putting her here. My daughter is about to be in middle school and I fear I will chose the wrong school for her because all of district 5 middle school have low ratings for similar problems.

I got bullied something wicked when I was a student there, and no one helped me. The classes were fun, I loved chess and robotics, and we had lots of cool trips to Columbia University, Barnard, and zoos all over the city. But the way they handle bullying is worse than terrible.

I currently do not have a problem with this school I read the reviews before I enrolled her and I was horrified with what was said about the school but I went against my better judgement and was glad I did she is doing remarkable she is a honor student and FDA has so many resources available to the students its all about making it work for YOU

This school isnt safe. I definitely do not recommend any parent sending their children here. The students smoke weed everywhere. They get high any time they get. Some students come to school drunk even. And all the staff cares about is that students arent allowed to play cards or dominos at lunch. Theyre too worried if the students are wearing the correct color shirt. They dont bring up the huge weed epidemic, EVER. No one ever likes to talk about the dark side of this school. Theres also a cyber bullying problem. Kids lives are ruined and humiliated because of this. Not only is there a weed and cyber bullying issue, theres fights every weeek. Fighting is normal for students, but this occurs at least five times a week. The staff never mentions these issues. All they care about its wearing shoes, and the right Uniform color and everything will be solved.

- PLEASE READ-Frederick Douglass academy is an awful school and here’s why. First of all there’s limited clubs. You want to join an art club, photography club, etc well guess what? there is none. Second of all, there’s limited classes. Unlike many ACTUAL good high schools that offer physchology, astronomical studies, Business studies and many more, Frederick Douglass has nothing but core classes. There’s nothing to really push students to think. Just a simple worksheet to complete and fill out. It’s a whole cycle of memorization. The AP courses are are also VERY limited. Roughly about 7 are offered while In other nyc high schools, as many as 20 are offered. Now let’s get into sports. While the sports teams are generally good, the spacing/organization is terrible. A tiny little gym is all it has to offer. With about 5 sports teams, they practice in small uncomfortable spaces. The track team runs in the halls. The cheerleaders practice in the cafeteria. Yes, CAFETERIA. With only one gym to spare, other teams really have no where to practice. It’s extremely uncomfortable for the participating team memebers as well as students who have to try not to bump into them running IN CLASS HALLS. The whole curriculum is terrible too. I really advice to look else where. This school really is terrible coming from a current student of 3 years. DO BETTER PARENTS!

My son attended this school after I pulled him out of a terrible charter school. I went all the way to the Board of Education to get a referral for my son to attend this school after hearing that it was one of the best public schools. However, the reality was that it is in fact one of the very worst schools to attend. My son entered the school with an overall average of 85% when he entered the 6th grade. From the point of entering the school his grades quickly plummeted consistently each quarter until he was completely failing every class by the end of the 7th grade. After numerous meetings with teachers, faculty, staff and even the board of education I decided to pull him out of the school and send him to boarding school. If I hadnt made that decision the school wouldve continued to pass him along every year as long as he kept passing the state exams. They didnt even require him to attend summer school though he failed all of his classes because he kept passing the state exams. The principal (Mr. Gates) is a true A$$hole and doesnt have any respect for parents; especially those who are in opposition as to how he runs the school and the performance of his teachers resulting in the lack of greater performance of the student body. When I met with him along with a representative from the board of education he said, and I quote, Your son is just not fit for my school. At that time I was highly offended but now that I look back on that statement I have to agree with him entirely. My son was not fit for that school; hes far better than that school and all it doesnt have to offer. He is currently back to being a B student and has made A honor roll the last 2 semesters of his 8th grade year. Parents if you truly care about the academic success of your children as well as their safety please do not send your child to this school. While my son was in attendance there were several incidents of molestation and rape of male and female students inside school restrooms. The principal also had my son arrested after he defended himself from the hands of a high school student who had just returned from being on a one month suspension for continued erratic behavior. I am currently in the process of suing for that incident. ***PARENTS BEWARE***

Teachers and staff have no moral training, they do what they want and have no regards for what students think. Horrible school, I suggest everyone transfer their child from there or theyll end up being in bad situations in the near future.
