Hello , I am a returning student to Martial Arts after 2 years away from training. I can tell you , the Shifu’s are very highly skilled but personable people who love to share their passion of Martial Arts to others. I have noticed a shift in whom I’ve been being as a person day to day with training. I have more self -control , love for my life and yet a healthy space to compete and feel a sense of community with men and women alike. I invite you all to give a martial arts a try, especially nowadays. Where society has become more bold and people are more on edge it seems. The training you will receive , will you give the confidence and self control to handle situations without having to lose self control. Monterey Martial Arts has transformed my life and how I approach exercise and fitness in general. Shifu Yerzy is the best martial arts instructor in the area, and I have tried several. I teach languages for a living, and I feel extremely fortunate to have found an incredible martial artist with the communication and pedagogical skills necessary for world-class self-defense instruction.I appreciate how he customizes classes to fit individual needs. I plan to pursue my Black Belt here. Sho Shou is effective for all ages and types of people, and Shifu Yerzy combines the most effective MMA techniques into his classes. I simply cannot overstate the merits of this school, or this master. If you are thinking about beginning classes, look no further!

Shifu Yerzy is awesome with our four-year-old son, teaching physical and mental strength and respect! Our son has loved the interaction with other kids his age, and weve loved the guidance and discipline his lessons have provided. Last year after COVID hit, our son wasnt able to attend preschool. Karate provided a physical outlet (so needed while were couped up inside!) and a social outlet for our son, and we are so grateful for Shifu Yerzys continued support.

Monterey Martial Arts provided my son with much needed focus, discipline, and extra curricular activity! He loved the noodle fights, push-ups and play time. Shifu Yerzy was patient with the kids and, in the words of my 8 year old, nice and strong. Had my family not moved away from the area, I believe that we would be have been long standing members of this dojo.

This is the fourth martial arts school we have attended and it is by far the best experience my son has ever had. Shifu is an exceptional teacher and he has changed my sons life for the better in less than a year. My son started in 2nd grade and my hope for these classes was that it would improve his self-confidence, physical literacy, focus, and ability to listen and think with a critical mind. Hes in 3rd grade now and still loves to attend classes 2-3 times a week. The kids get a lot of one-on-one attention, and as a movement teacher myself, I observe and appreciate the methods being used for the students to maximally retain the information in their minds and bodies. The style is a good mix of physical preparedness, mental acuity, engagement with other bodies and their environment, and philosophical learning. Such a good fit for my son and our family. Highly recommend for any age.
