Grappling zone has some of the nicest people! The students truly want to help you improve (no egos there). Professor James is knowledgeable (and hilarious) and his wife is very kind and professional. Many times, Prof James has actually reached out to students offering to help train them (even when it’s not technically class time). I would highly recommend anyone checking out grappling zone.

As a busy working mom who needs trusted childcare in the summer and after school I could not be happier with the Grappling zone. The care and attention to my son was too notch and he had a wonderful time. Great after school and summer program for kids. Kids not only learn self defense skills that can help them the rest of their life, but also gain knowledge academically. Students also have the opportunity to go on field trips and do community work. Other great programs Include art and more! Love the staff that are professional. They truly care about the kids there. We love being a part of the Grappling Zone family! At Grappling Zone, all of our 6 children, ages 3-11, can participate in their back-to-back classes and family class. The coaches meet each of them where they are individually. They teach respect, disciple, and self-control, all while maintaining a positive, encouraging, and motivating tone. Their belt system keeps the kids engaged and motivated, as they work to earn stripes and move up to the next color. I am impressed with the physical conditioning and technique that is offered to the kids to help them succeed. The owners are very welcoming, enjoy the kids, and love seeing them grow in the sport. They make you feel right at home as soon as you arrive. My children get so much out of their time at Grappling Zone; I cannot say enough about them.

My three sons practice Jiu Jitsu at Grappling Zone (10, 7, 5). We also participated in summer camp and the afterschool care program, and my two older sons are on the competition team. I just cannot say enough positive things about Grappling Zone. The instructors are top notch and the owners are warm and caring. My oldest son has severe ADHD and I have seen tremendous growth and maturity from his time at GZ. The foundational expectations of respect and discipline are balanced beautifully with developing many other character traits; honor, kindness, and courage…to name a few. I am so glad we found GZ and have been welcomed into the family here!

My son has been attending Grappling Zone for close to 2 years now. He has been more focused and has found something that motivates him. His coaches here really teach them real jiu-jitsu and morales to live by. And now he is on their traveling team and pushes himself to do better, by staying after class and learning my more with the adult class. The staff here is amazing, they talk to you and encourage the kids to do better. The coaches are world trained and focus on the training and techniques of jiu-jitsu so the kids can learn and apply is tournaments. I highly recommend Grappling zone.

My daughter has really enjoyed learning Jiu Jitsu here. It is a great gym with a fun, wholesome, family vibe and professional instruction. The staff is knowledgeable and cares about the kids. We have made friends with the families that are regulars here and they really make new people feel welcome. We drive out of our way to come here and my daughter looks forward to her training. They even have a Grand Master as an instructor!!

This place is amazing!For less than normal after school care they will pick up your child from school, provide an after school snack, help with homework, and do a BJJ class.This is 5 days a week! The class alone would normally cost several hundred dollars, and they provide this with their after school program.They also offer an entire day summer camp. This helps a lot for families with 2 working parents.As if this was not good enough, the teachers are great! They really helped us take my sons outbursts and focus them on something worthwhile!.10/10 would always recommend.

I began with Grapple Zone almost a year ago! At that time I was 48😁. Not only am I able to keep in shape the instructors have taught me so many things. Being able to defend yourself was a factor but I found much more. My daily frustrations and anxiety eased with this as an outlet. The classes were flexible enough to fit my schedule. They are an awesome group!

My boys have been going to grappling zone for a few years now. They have learned a lot and really have grasped the understanding of respect. Our boys have been so happy and love all the different activities they have got to take part in!

I highly recommend trying out a class at Grappling Zone. The staff is extremely polite and friendly. They constantly go above and beyond. The training curriculum is incredible. Each class provides a solid workout to help students get in shape, but also provides a large amount of self defense instruction through drilling. Although it can be intimidating to come for a class, the instructors and students are extremely welcoming and friendly. They will make sure to start new students off slow to ensure safety and prevent injury. In general, martial arts are incredible, but I have never found one that I enjoy more than jiu jitsu. Come give it a try.

My experiences have been positive and I feel quite fortunate to be able to train in an environment that is not just family friendly, but also an extension of family. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Grappling Zone is not just a place of Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts for us. Its an extended family. This place teaches much needed core life values to kids at an early age that you can see carries on in them as they grow. Respect is taught just as much as the martial arts and this is a big thing even in the adult classes. My son has been attending both the Pearland School and the Almeda school since he was 4 years old. He is in the advanced class now as one of the highest ranked in the class. When he grapples its against kids 3-4 years older, and at least 50lbs heavier. He wins those matches. He is only 7 years old and has been doing so since he was 6. Its because of his training at grappling zone that we dont have to worry about him being able to protect himself or show discipline in tough situations. Hes battle tested and we are thankful for Grappling Zone and its instructors.

I am very impressed with this place. Master James Wadley is a very knowledgeable instructor. he is really good with the kids and the adult classes are also very intense. I became a member along with my son. my stamina level has already doubled in just 3 weeks of training. I highly recommend this gym to interested people. Great for self defense and also if you are interested in competing.

My son and I have been with this academy for a little over a year now. Grappling Zone is a great place for you or your kid to gain confidence while also learning to be humble. Anyone who trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is going to be humbled because you’re going to tap (give up a match), but you will learn. We often learn more through our losses. Through those losses we gain the knowledge and experience to prevent the same thing from happening again. You’ll leave with the confidence to know you’ll be able to defend yourself (unless they know more BJJ than you).

Amazing Academy! The mat space is plentiful and the facility is extremely well kept. This academy is great for anyone looking for a “home” in which to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. From those who have never trained a martial art to black belts. I was looking for a top rated school to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Judo. After going to countless ones, I decided to give Grappling Zone a try. First, the owners James and Terri are fantastic. Their approach is to encourage students to learn the fine art of BJJ and Judo. They are fantastic professionals as well as tremendous people. What attracted me highly was the fact that they also have a youth program which serves the community highly. I have learned so much and will continue to grow with Grappling Zone. The instructors from Brazil are 1st rate and dedicated to your success. James and the team at Grappling Zone have 2 locations. One in SE and 1 in Pearland. Each location is fantastic with very organized instruction. If you want to learn BJJ Grappling Zone is the place. Fantastic!

Some of the best possible technical instruction for BJJ to be found. Strong lineage, black belt instructors and the only 8th degree black belt instructor in the USA, Mastre Edson Leandro da Silva. IBJJF certified.

Our girls have been attending the Grappling Zone since 2016. They truly enjoy the activities and staff. I have been going since 2019 and really enjoy the jiu jitsu. The staff will go out of their way to help. They are nice, but tough when the kids need it. It is amazing to watch the transformation the children go though as they progress through the belts. The program is designed to be quick. They concentrate on the fundamentals a lot. Master Waddley and Master Edison are great to teachers. They are extremely vested in their students progression and learning path.

Great owners. Fantastic teacher that mixes bjj and judo. Also one of few coral (red/white) belts in Houston. They also bring in alot of instructor from Brazil to teach a un-Americanized bjj. The teammates are great as well. They dont shy from teaching the kids respect and independence.

I have been speaking to a lady on our refund for the month and our membership fee. Me a my family had very unfortunate circumstances happen, both of my grandparents passed at the same time and had to travel to VA to go to the funeral and settle the estate. Grappling Zone was aware we were leaving and froze our account until our return. We left not knowing I was going to inherit my grandparents home and land and came home to get all our belongings and speak to Grappling zone as well about a refund for all the money paid that my child only attended one class only one hour. I last spoke to her an hour ago and was shocked by the way she spoke to me as though we are at fault. Telling me it’s not her fault what has happened to my family with no remorse whatsoever and constantly over speaking me. I did receive my $175 for the month back but they are refusing to refund the $99 yearly fee. Im sorry that they assume it’s my fault for my grandparents passing and not there fault my son only attend an hour with their company. By all means this is not how you run a business and am extremely happy my son will not be around this type of influence.
