Spectrum Academy aims to help children of any disability or short coming to realize their potential through tiered educational programs designed to accommodate varying needs. This admirable pursuit is what drew me to working there several months ago. However, after working with some of Spectrums staff, it is clear to me that this isnt a perfect system, but it is just like any other public organization. The kids were amazing, but the staff and admin have a very clear idea in their minds of what you should be doing, but dont always give you that information; even when you press for it. Some of the teachers are about as qualified as any other school, and the culture among some of the employees resembles a high school clique rather than a united team looking to improve the education system for disabled youth. Overall, I think it is a decent school that does have many good teachers and professionals that are wonderful for children, but a hard place to work if you arent placed with the right coworkers who care about your success.

My son has attended Spectrum Academy since their doors have opened. He was practically non-verbal when he started. He can now speak 4-5 word sentences. No school is perfect but Im grateful that Spectrum exists. Its been heaven sent for my son.

My kids do love the school. I think they do a good job with the amount of resources they have. However, the traffic for pick up is baffling to me. There has to be a better way than to show up on time and still wait 30 minutes (sometimes longer) to pick up your child.

Spectrum Academy is good at keeping class sizes small, attaining and updating IEPs and having a social skills class into the curriculum that helps teach the students correct skills on social aspects. The reason I can only rate 3 stars:Spectrum Academy states that it is a school that Specializes in kids on the spectrum and other special needs. In order to say a school Specializes the teachers would not only need a Bachelors degree but also a Masters degree or certification in special education. Sadly, this is not the case. Many of the teachers there are either still working on their bachelors degree or dont have a degree at all and few teachers have a masters degree or certification in special education. If a teacher quits, the school will put the Para (teachers assistant) in the teachers place. Anyone can be a Para and you dont need a bachelors degree or certification in special education. If Spectrum Academy actually backed up what they claim, I would rate this school 5 stars.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best schools for kids on the Autism spectrum in the country. For those curious about why students without autism are getting in first, since Spectrum is a charter school they are legally required to take any student regardless of disabilities or lack thereof if they are accepted via the lottery first.

This school has changed my childrens lives drastically for the better. Dedicated staff, small classes, and most of the student body has IEPs. My boys went from quietly failing to confidently succeeding!

Unfortunately, there are not enough qualified teachers at this school and there needs to be more class options. Also, I don’t feel that the academic standards are very high here compared to public schools. It won’t prepare your child for college or the real world. Also, there are some issues with some of the behaviors here of the students and the students will never get expelled.

It is very sad when kids with autism are not accepted into this school when their names were not drawn on the lottery, while they have other children without autism taking up spaces.
