The absolute best school district Ive ever seen operate. Only 1 issue really stood out against their otherwise excellent record. Best system Ive seen compared to my own schooling, and friends/family as well.

The district seem to have no accountability for the remote teachers. I chose to keep my children remote because of the pandemic and students not wearing masks properly at school. I have a middle schooler who has her normal teachers that she would have if she attended in person and we have no issues. My elementary school child on the other hand, nothing but issues with remote “teachers”. I received a call from her school one day that she would be returning to in person when I did not agree to that. I later found out that it was because she had failing grades in all of her classes. Never once did her teacher reach out to me to tell me that. When my child was with her actual teacher doing remote learning, the assignments were done differently so I had no way to know. When I brought up the issue to the head of remote learning I was told that it was my fault and that I should be checking grades. No acknowledgement that the remote teacher should contact parents if the student is failing. I was also told that because I had an issue with another remote teacher that it just seems that I am dissatisfied. This makes it seem like as a parent I am wrong for reaching out when there are issues. Reaching the district is another hassle entirely. I can never get an answer no matter what option I select in the directory and getting a call returned is rare.

Contacted school after noting that my children had an F in multiple courses via PowerSchool. I expressed my concern and the teacher was reluctant to give me the missing assignments (Liberty Point Elementary School). Keep in mind we are in distance learning mode now due to the pandemic. I made sure the communication included the principal. The principal sent me instructions on how to clear up email spam instead of addressing the issue. After my intelligence was insulted, it was evidently clear that there was no intention to help or allow my son to improve his grades. Before this, he was a normal A and B student. This distance learning experience only demonstrates how bad attitudes from principals and staff negatively impacts students learning abilities.

Received a call at 8:16am this morning stating that ALL practices are cancelled today 11-22-2019. This is AFTER I got my 3 kids up ( one being a sick 2 year old) to take my oldest daughter to her 8am basketball practice at County High School. She walks in and then is informed that it has been canceled. Get it together district 70. This is inexcusable for everyone involved.

The children at Rye Elementary school now have to stand out in a field when dropped off by parents and stand in a line before they are allowed into school. No dropping off at the door. Lets all go stand in the rain, snow and any other inclement weather we can think of for safety reasons. Guess that would give a shooter better coverage where the kids have no place to hide . Well thought out. If youre stupid enough to think it would not happen at a rural school youre idiots.

Two of my granddaughters go here after being homeschooled. The staff is attentive and caring. Glad we made the decision for them to attend this school.

The school district cares about the safety and needs of their students all the way down to the bus transportation.
