This academy is a great place for the whole family to train. I began by putting my oldest son in the BJJ kids and Judo classes. It really helped with his character and self-defense. After a year of watching him I got off the bench and joined myself and Im glad I did. Im getting in shape, having fun learning new things, and meeting lots of wonderful people. I will put my youngest in next year when he is old enough. Gary, Kelly , Mike and all the CG BJJ instructors are great teachers. Very happy that Reno has a place like this for both kids and adults to train.

This is an excellent place to train! I visit Reno every other week on business and drop-in whenever I can. Gary and all of his students are VERY welcoming, friendly, and willing to share knowledge. The students Ive rolled with ALL have solid technique and are tough as nails, a direct reflection of the top-notch instruction that Gary provides. If youre in the Reno area, I cant recommend this place highly enough.

My son has been going to the school for a year now and loves the kids classes and instructors. I have been going there for a few years and enjoy it very much. They have a massive amount of mat space, clean facility, and a wide variety of training partners and instructors. There are classes every day of the week, 3 a day during the week, two on the weekends each of those days. Saturday there is a family class where you can join in with your kids, which makes them very happy! Everyone is friendly, courteous and great to roll with. It has stepped up my game. If youre looking for big guys to roll with they have plenty there as well. Gary teaches many of the classes himself and always has great material he covers! This school has the best array of classes, instructors, space and more to work with your schedule. Its a must try if youre into Jits or just interested in seeing what its all about.

A man driving a company truck for this studio almost hit my car today. While driving home from lake tahoe he began to tailgate me. I was going 5 miles over the speed limit and had my husband and two kids in the car. He got closer and closer. Then out of nowhere he pulled up to the side of our car and cut us off as hard as he could. I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting the boat he was pulling. It was extremely teriffying. Whomever was driving this truck obviously has no regard for human life. I am sick to my stomach and astonished that someone would drive so recklessly.

I was in Reno for business. My choices were casino gambling, Monday Night Football or find a location to get my BJJ fix. Found Charles Gracie JJ on the website and dropped in. Gary and his students were very hospitable. I was made to feel welcome immediately. The format was great. The facility was very nice and clean. Overall, it was a great experience! Thanks again Gary! Ive since been looking at your moves of week and found two that I plan to work into my game asap.

This is the no questions the best and oldest Jiu-Jitsu training camp in Northern Nevada. This place will always hold a special place in my heart and Gary Grate is a true lead by example leader. Hes not only the best instructor, but the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in the area bar none. Nobody else local can touch him at any level.

Ive been training at this Academy for almost 4 years along with my girlfriend and two of my sons. I enjoy the casual yet respectful atmosphere. As far as the quality of the Brazilian/Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instruction... I believe that there is none better in the Northern Nevada area. Gary Grate and his wife Ady (also a student) are awesome people that really care about their students and I believe that they go the extra mile to make the classes informative, fun and safe.If you are considering this Academy to start or continue your Jiu-Jitsu journey... dont be shy or intimidated. From my experience... rarely do you meet a much better and more proficient student who is highly motivated to hand you your ass. Most of the better and higher ranked students apply just enough technique to remind you who is a more efficent practitioner of the gentle art. It is of course a competitive atmosphere to a degree, but in my opinion that helps you improve your conditioning and technique. I also might add that the rolling part of the training is what makes practitioners so effective in real life self defense situations and also why you hear stories of blue and purple belts in BJJ routinely defeating so called black belts in other martial arts! (Google it!)In short... great group of people (students and instructors alike) to train and socialize with. On a side note, the Academy just received a fantastic remodel and it looks awesome! I travel quite a bit for business and have visited quite a few Jiu-Jitsu schools around the country and this facility without a doubt is top-notch! It not only looks great but has the most mat space Ive ever seen. Youll have plenty of room to drill, roll and improve your game. Come train with us! You wont regret it!By the way, if youre looking into this Academy and considering it for your offspring... Marc and Kelly Cramer run an excellent kids program here as well.

Ive been to grappling classes along the east and west coasts and wrestled all across the nation and definitely have to say that this is one of the best gyms Ive been to. Surprising that such a gym flourished in northern Nevada as this region is not known for its bustling MMA and jujitsu scene, especially when compared to the southern part of the state. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into Jiu-jitsu or MMA, from the newcomer who wants to learn basic self-defense to the experienced athlete who wants to up their game. Large classes with a huge diversity of sizes and experience so there is always a training partner your size and Gary does a good job of being very approachable and getting to everyone in such large classes. Hands down best gym within the northern Nevada/northern California region.

Charles Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy of Reno is the best place Ive ever gone to workout. Your welcomed the moment you walk through the door and every day after that. I was even welcomed back after 4.5 years away! As for there being mid 20s meat heads, I dont think thats a fair assessment. I was a competitive body builder for many years, and in that environment are the ego maniac meat heads that have bad attitudes. In BJJ you cant have that kind of attitude because it will be quickly put in check. The only thing I see is people eager to learn, willing to roll with higher belts to see where their weaknesses are and want to help lower belts. Sometimes as a lower belt you get a little beat up but I see it as part of trying to push yourself. Ive also got my almost 5 year old enrolled in the kids program and he just earned his first stripe. Its a great program that teaches respect, hard work and ethics. They do a good job of BJJ instruction then the kids get to play for a bit at the end of class. After all, kids attention spans are short!Keep up the great work Gary and crew. Im glad Im back, Im glad my son is in the kids program and Im glad to tell EVERYONE about the Charles Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy of Reno. OSS.

This is the ONLY true BJJ gym in Northern Nevada. A lot of others say they teach BJJ but none are Gracie Jui-Jitsu. This academy has the highest over all skill level with 8 black belts to athletic beginners. If your interested in traditonal Mauy Thia its there as well. Some complain about prices but you get what you pay for...Try to buy a Mercedes at Mazda prices...It dosent happen
