Surprised there are so many 5 star reviews. Not impressed with what I saw, albeit it was one, short class. Dozens of kids, seems disorganized / chaotic and not of the same caliber of the martial arts studio we have attended at Mockingbird + Skillman. Person teaching the class did not seem to be terribly engaged or impactful, again relative to our experience in East Dallas. If you are erring on the side of cautious as it relates to Covid, this is not your place. 90+ % of students + the instructor were unmasked as were about 30% of the observing parents- seems at odds with a sport that is designed to increase discipline and safety. Ended up being a pretty expensive 40 minute experience, we bought the 6 week deal for $69 but we will not be going back.

I have been training here as long as I can remember, and have loved it. I have always been impressed by how much my mood changes when I walk through the doors. No Matter how upset I am before class Master Asl always has a way of cheering me up, and I leave incredibly happy. I also have anxiety and for some reason master can calm me down, and always gets me in class and I always have fun. I was one of the original students that master taught and he has made me so much better as a person. If anyone wants to start training In a martial art I strongly recommend trying it out, because I guarantee that you will be hooked the minute you walk in the door.

So I have been going here for 11 years now, and If I never did it, I honestly believe if I never joined I would not be where I am today. Both training and working here has taught me so much, how to be a fighter and how to better defend myself, but more importantly it has taught me how to be a better person. I would 100% recommend it to any parent who wants to have their kid have a fun and exciting experience, feel welcomed by everyone including staff and students, learn self discipline and self control, and help them be the best version of themselves they can be!

My daughters have been taking classes at ASL for the past three years. Master is very firm and has high expectations, but is also nurturing and funny with them. He teaches them skills and lessons beyond taekwondo that will last a lifetime. A year and a half ago our girls started the aftercare program as well. It was the best decision! The kids love it and often yell at me if I pick them up too early. Plus, they get home and all their nightly required reading for school is done. We can finally enjoy our evenings as a family. Both of my kids fully plan on becoming black belts some day, and I know they will. Master won’t let them fail.

We love ASL JunSur! This local business is run by the sweetest family! My 5 year old has been going here for 2 years and when he first attended I thought this was just something fun to help put his energy in. After 2 years I have seen such a change in my son. He is more independent, and really enjoys earning his stripes. He has developed so much strength and balance and loves being taught by the older kids. They are great mentors. Excited to see him go from Little Warriors class to the next level when he is 6. I also LOVE their camps. My son always wants to go to them- when school is out these camps are safe, and fun for the kids. They are also very cautious about COVID and wearing masks/sanitizing. Thank you for putting all these amazing programs together for the local community!

We have been members here for over a year now and cant say enough good things about Asl JunSur. We have seen our son grow in his confidence both in and out of his classes. He enjoys the after school program as well as their summer camp. It has become a second home for us, and they have truly been a blessing to our family, especially during the challenges of COVID when so many other things fell apart they remained a safe constant. We cant wait for our next son to begin classes and their after school program in the fall.

I have been a student of Master Asls since the dojan opened in 2008, and over the years he and the team at Asl Junsur have shown nothing but dedication to their students and reverence for martial arts. The team at Asl Junsur will never give up on you and they value growth over anything. There was even a time when my family had to take a break from classes, but Master still kept in touch and eventually made it possible for us to come back after 2 years being out of practice. The dojan is like a second home to me and the instructors care more than just about how youre doing in martial arts, they always ask about your other activities and things going on in your life and they encourage you in everything! In my 13 years at the school Ive seen many students improve their character, made meaningful friendships, and created many memories, and Ive been taught about integrity and perseverance. This is also an objectively wonderful place to learn martial arts. I am now preparing to test for my third degree black belt, and I competed for about 5 years. We would compete at the state and national level and would attend huge training camps of black belts, and sometimes it was shocking to see how other schools would perform. I knew we trained hard at Asl Junsur, but I never realized how much of a difference it would make. From everything Ive seen, I believe learning martial arts is a very valuable experience that is beyond just learning to defend yourself. I would recommend it to anyone of any age and on top of that would absolutely recommend studying here at Asl Junsur with Master Asl!

In the short time I have been at Asl Junsur, I have learned so things that are not only valuable to martial arts, but to my life in general. I cant even begin to put into words what ASL JunSur Martial Arts and Master ASL mean to our family. Our (almost 11yo) son has been training here since he was four. Our daughter, my husband, and I have all also trained here at one time or another. Master is amazing with his students of all ages. He is proficient at meeting each student where they are and almost instinctually knows what each individual needs in terms of coaching and leadership style. He takes pride in running a martial arts program the right way. He expects his students to demonstrate a thorough mastery of each level before they will test to promote, but he also provides exceptional training to prepare them for the rigorous requirements. However, this program teaches so much more than just martial arts skills & techniques. He teaches respect (for elders, peers, and self), discipline, leadership, patience, accountability, and so much more. Our son looks up to Master and has become someone that he not only respects, but that he wants to make proud. Masters opinion is SO important to our son and he works hard to make good choices because of it. I can not recommend this martial arts school highly enough. You absolutely will NOT be disappointed by this VERY well-rounded program.

We found ASL JunSur when we had a birthday party here before my son started going to the martial arts classes. Once we saw how amazing Master ASL and his team of professional instructors were, we were instantly hooked. My child has grown immensely in his discipline outside of class and I attribute this to the training and how the program instills excellence in all areas of the childs life beyond just his martial arts training. The owners also demonstrate a true desire to be a part of the Richardson and surrounding communities by hosting regular community events such as Taco night, parents night out events and regular camps where all members (and non-members) have the opportunity to partake in and become a part of the ASL JunSur Martial Arts family. Needless to say, Id highly recommend any child try ASL!

After school that day my 2nd grader said he really wanted to sign up for TaeKwondo.I signed up both of my boys (ages 7 and 11) and they have enjoyed the program. While the kids are attending a group lesson, each student is really treated as an individual. At the end of each class, Master tells the kids a story about something relating to the kids being the best they can be (at home, in school, with homework...)My younger son recently was not motivated to continue because he recently received his yellow belt. He is learning new material which is stretching him beyond his comfort zone. Master took time after class to talk with him about coming to class and doing the best that he can. I am going to start by saying that I have never been good at sports. I have always been a tad on the clumsy side while practicing a sport so I have never been hooked with any sports, even though I tried. I am 41 years old now, and with the exception of 4 years of yoga practice 8 years ago, I have never worked out in my life.! I have tried, but nothing ever got me hooked. I also developed a condition called insulin resistant a few years back, it basically means that my trigs and cholesterol levels are to the roof and that I deposit all that fat in my middle section. I take medication for it, but have never been able to loose weight, even after I tried and tried by changing my diet and exercising, it didnt matter what I did, my body was stuck. One day I found ASL JunSur, they offered 3 classes and a free uniform. Learning a little bit of self-defense sounded great so I went for it. Its been 6 months now and I will try my very best to not miss one class. I will rush from work, try and beat traffic and make it to my class. I thought I was reaching an age when everything starts breaking and squeaking and I have now realized how wrong I was. I am stronger, leaner, healthier and I love how my body feels now. I learned how to be more disciplined in my practice and I LOVE IT. Master is a great teacher to the little ones and to the not so little ones like me. I have asked my friends to come and give it a try and I highly recommend this place. Everybody is nice and helpful.Master asked us one day what putting on the belt meant to us. I gave it a good thought and for me, putting on my now yellow belt means empowerment. Choosing a good Martial Arts school is an important decision, similar to choosing a good university for higher education. I started practicing under the guidance of Master Asl in Spring 2014 and since then my experience at ASL JunSur has been full of euphoria. Master Asl is an highly decorated and talented martial arts specialist and ASL JunSur is headed by Master ASL himself. Master ASL not only focuses on the ranking but more importantly on the art that you learn. At ASL JunSur I have learned that Martial Arts is not just for self defense, however, a life style for all ages. Master ASL teaches you how you can incorporate Martial Arts in your everyday life, the importance of nutritious diet, the value of health and how you can avoid common diseases like obesity, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Master ASL guides us to gain control over our body and mind and how to live a stress free life. He is very patient and welcoming and the classes are always fun and full of lessons. With my own personnel experience, I highly encourage you all to come and try a class at ASL JunSur and meet with our loving and respected Master ASL. I am so happy and proud to be at ASL JunSur.

Im a serious martial artist and all I can say about this place is it is a watered down american rip off of Taekwondo. Taekwondo schools over the years have become sort of this art that teachers can show to kids and play it off like they are actually learning something. This school is really just an expensive P90x class. I went here to try out this school to see how it went. So after a short phone call to schedule a time to take a loot at the school I was told I had to pay $20 to get my GI, and to attend 3 classes. This was a little fishy but I just went with it assuming it was a good class. Now let me get into the actual class. We did ONE technique in an over an hour long class. Ill repeat, ONE. Now I dont mean that we spent the whole class learning this technique. The last five minutes of class he decided that we were going to learn axe kicks then we did about 20 of them both sides and called it a day. The rest of class was spent doing workouts and such to gain strength. We did a lot of squats and a lot of push ups. Now dont get me wrong this sort of stuff is important and all but its not necessarily important to learning Taekwondo. Im a skinny guy as is and I dont need a cardio workout when I want to learn Taekwondo. His self defense techniques are a mix of Hopkido and some basic karate self defense techniques. Ive down a bit of Jiu Jitsu, Im actually transferring from JiuJitsu to this. On the website it states that the master is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu. I went to try to talk to him about it and he seemed to be totally clueless about it, on top of that he didnt really seem interested in talking to me, a possible student. I think if you are a parent looking to enroll your child into a martial arts school you should look elsewhere this is really not worth your childs time. Try to find a school that teaches traditional Taekwondo not this watered down American Taekwondo.

Master ASL and his wife, Shokefouh, are just golden and I am so incredibly thankful to the friends who let us know about this jewel of a place. My kids attend both the after school program and martial arts classes weekly and we couldnt be more pleased with both programs and the individuals taking care of our kiddos.

ASL JunSur Martial Arts is fantastic! If you are looking for a place to get your kids involved in martial arts, look no further. They are great with kids and make the classes fun, all the while teaching them Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. We were referred to ASL JunSur by one of our daughters classmates and made the decision to do the 6 week trial, even though it is not very close to our house. It has now turned into my daughters favorite extracurricular activity. I would highly recommend them!

Our daughter started at ASL Junsur when she was 4 1/2 years old and, 2 years later, shes still going strong. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us. The staff is so sweet and so helpful. Master Asl is amazing! He connects with kids as young as 4 all the way into their teens. You can tell that the kids just love him. Taekwondo has been so good for our daughter. It has taught her patience and persistence. She loves going to class and respects Master Asl so much. He teaches not only the skills of taekwondo but also how to be a better person. We have nothing but good things to say about Master Asl and the wonderful staff at Asl Junsur Martial Arts!

When my daughter joined, we thought it was only going to be a whim, as sometimes she doesnt like to put effort into new things and gives up after a while, but thanks to Shokoufeh, Master, Jacob and rest of the staff, she is now going for her Green belt and never wants to miss a day, even when sick. She even makes me be her practice partner for her Poom-Sae (hope I spelled that right) so she can get better at them. Great job guys!

We discovered ASL JunSur Martial Arts through a friends recommendation...and I cant thank her enough for sending us to them! From the moment we walked in the door and were welcomed by Shokoufehs contagious smile, my son and I felt like we were part of their family! Master Asl and his wife Shokoufeh are the KINDEST people and you can just see the passion they have for children. They also have the best people working for them!Going to martial arts is never a chore for my kiddo or something he complains about doing. He is having a blast all while unknowingly acquiring martial arts skills, discipline, confidence and life lessons that will remain with him for a life-time. Master Asl is playful and a great friend while at the same time managing to command and instill respect into our children.Being a part of ASL JunSur Martial Arts isnt just limited to my child. They hold many free events and special classes that include the whole family! We look forward to many years of fun here!!

My wife and I have to yodel karate hands down that these are the nicest and most patient people anyone could ever work with. Master ASL is extremely knowledgeable at teaching children Tae Kwon Do of all ages. His wife, Shok, has a warm smile and provides exceptional customer service! Their assistant, Jacob, could seriously be a preschool teacher or a therapist; he is amazing and extremely patient with children. My kids have been going there for a couple of weeks now. They have learned great discipline and its been fabulous for them to release their energy. They l@@k forward in going each week.I am also very happy that they have a couple of balls at their location, so while my twins are being trained in combat, I can have a catch with my toddler and keep her entertained. For anyone who loves to drink coffee and tea as much as I do, they also have a Keurig machine which keeps me hyperactive, talkative and cheerful, lol. :PI am so glad that my friend who stumbled upon this place for her child, convinced my wife and I to sign up our own children as well. This has been one of the very best decisions of our lives!Thank you merryone at ASL Junsur Martial Arts! YeeHaaw, uh, I mean HiYa! :)

Great after school program and kick-ass martial arts center. My sons absolutely love Master Asl and look up to him so much. He is such a great role model and my kids have learned a great deal from him. We moved from California three and half years ago and were browsing several different TKD places for our older son to continue. Master Asl and Shokoufeh were so nice, and the positive energy and vibe received from our sons trial couldnt compare to other try-outs that we tried. My younger one started this school year and enjoys going there with his older brother. There are year round fun activities for the whole family to enjoy and ASL Martial Arts has surpassed our expectations. Great place! The kids genuinely love and respect Master Asl. The after school program instructors and helpers are awesome! They do a great job and are on point about making sure our kids get their hw done.

I highly recommend ASL to all parents. My daughter and son take Tae Kwon Do with Master Asl and they love it. They really enjoy the aspect of moving up in belt levels and learning self-defense. During classes, Master Asl also talks to the kids about the importance of doing well in school, respecting their parents and teachers, and being kind to others. I also love the fact that this is a family-run business. Master Asl and his wife Shokoufeh are so great with the kids and so friendly to the parents.

My boys have been going to ASL since January and we have seen a HUGE improvement in my boys (ages 7 and 5 1/2). Master Asl is amazing with all the kids. I was concerned with how my youngest was having difficult focusing during the classes at first. It felt like my kid was the only one not able to stand still when told stay in line and keep his hands to himself when sitting. When I spoke with Master Asls wife (who we affectionately refer to as Mrs. Master) about my concerns and possibly pulling him, she and Master both said that Jax is doing fine. They were right. A few classes later I started to see the change. The respect, focus and life skills learned at Asl Martial Arts are priceless. At the end of each class he speaks to the kids on different subjects to build their character. He reiterates what my husband and I are teaching at home. Master Asl has the patience of a saint. I work in education and I am awe of how he is able to manage the classes and still give great one on one attention. Asl Martial Arts is a great place where I see my boys learning taekwondo but also learning how to be great young men. I highly recommend Asl to any parent considering any form of martial arts for their son/daughter. You will not be disappointed.

My son has been taking classes at Asl Junsur since the beginning of this school year. We have enjoyed being a part of the Asl Junsur family. My son has learned a great deal not only about martial arts but about life as well. I have appreciated that Master Asl has taken the time to teach self-defense to the boys as well as how to recognize and deal with bullying. This year has been a successful year for my son at school I believe due, in large part, the discipline he has learned through taking classes at Asl Junsur.

My mom enrolled me in a martial arts school in Arlington when I was 5, and I stayed there for 3 years until we moved over to Dallas. I tried out quite a few different schools in our new location, but none of them proved satisfactory. So when I came to Asl Junsur Martial Arts, I assumed that I would eventually move on as I had from every other school. It quickly became apparent, though, that this was a school I would be sticking with. The instructor, Master Asl, provided a welcoming, friendly, and encouraging atmosphere, while still leading and challenging me to improve in martial arts like I had never been before. The techniques I have learned and the skills I have gained here eclipse anything I was taught at any other schools. Not only did I learn more effective self-defense, but I also became more fit and my balance and motor skills improved (which is especially significant for me because I have a disorder which somewhat impairs them). But most important are the real life lessons I have learned: discipline, dedication, hard work, confidence, and respect of others. Young or old, Master Asl is able to meet his students right where they are, while still holding them up to a high standard. It is incredible to look back and see the transformations this has brought about in myself and my classmates, and now that I am working as an instructor at the school myself I have the privilege of being apart of the same transformations in new students. Ive seen kids with barely any confidence overcome their insecurities and kids who would never listen to authority become respectful and polite.Of course, the school also teaches excellent mixed martial arts, focusing mainly on Taekwondo and Hapkido with plenty of other influences as well. Students are taught everything from how to fall to the ground without hurting oneself, to how to use nunchucks, to how to fight off multiple opponents at once. And, to top it all off, the environment is actually easygoing, and a ton of fun.Honestly, you would be hard-pressed to find a better martial arts school. Anywhere. It has been a huge blessing to me, and it will be to you, too.

My daughter LOVES being a part of Asl Junsur Martial Arts! My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago. We did not want to medicate her, so her doctor recommended Tae Kwon Do. We couldnt have asked for a better atmosphere and environment for her to learn how to work on self control, behavior issues and self discipline. ASL is more than just a Martial Arts studio, they truly care for your children like they are your own. My daughter is getting straight As in school, and her behavior has improved immensely! They have a wonderful After School program as well as Parents Night Out! WE love ASL Martial arts!!!!

We are so thankful we found Asl Junsur Martial Arts for our son. I had been looking at martial arts schools for a while as I was told by many that it really helps people on the autism spectrum. I was a bit skeptical and when I visited other schools I never felt really comfortable or that it would be a good choice for our family.I happened to be at a PTA event and won a party at Asl Jun Sur and we found our home there. From the moment we walked in to arrange for the party I knew that it was a great school. We stayed and watched the class for a while and I was incredibly impressed with Master Asl and Shokoufeh, as well as the students. The birthday party was the coolest party my son has ever had and all the kids still talk about it. The students who assisted were incredible. We were hooked. I signed my son up for classes that day.Since then we have seen our son blossom. He loves going to class, has set goals for himself, has become more calm and respectful, and we have seen a boost in his self-confidence. My son has never really enjoyed any kind of sports and now hes checking out books on Taekwondo, learning the history of Taekwondo, has learned to count in Korean and learned many Korean words, and has really immersed himself into it.As a mom, his interest is exciting and as a special needs mom, I find great comfort in knowing that my son will be able to protect himself from bullies if and when the time comes. Asl Jun Sur has created a caring, confidence building school. We feel very fortunate to have found them.

Dedicated Sr. students showed a spectacular demo of TaekwonDo followed by lots of activities & fun with her friends. My daughter got a chance to break a board in front of her friends and guests that made her friends more excited. She got a chance to cut her Bday cake with a sword that i never seen in any other place. They provided full help for the party and we are happy that, our daughter got a great experience at her 6th BDay Party. Thank you Team ASL!

I started practicing TaeKwonDo back in 2004 with another school. For almost 9 years, I attended classes 2 or 3 times a week and advanced through the belt levels, finally attaining my 3rd Dan Black Belt. I enjoyed the experience but in the back of my mind, I knew there was something missing from my martial arts education. When that school moved to a location that was too far for me to drive, I began my search for a new school. I sort of felt like Goldilocks - some schools were too much of this, some were too much of that. Then I found Asl Junsur Martial Arts and it was just right.Master Asl impressed my from the start. After watching some of his younger students (I am 64 now), I realized how much I still had to learn. He is working with me to help me evolve my technique so that I can catch up. All of this is being done on a pace that is comfortable for me.I attend his adult classes (ages 14 and up). They not only include Taekwondo but also Hapkido as well and follow the World Taekwondo Federation rules and teaching philosophies. The other students in my class are very respectful of each other and eager to help each other become better martial artists. Respect for others is instilled by Master Asl. He mixes up the workout routines in the class to avoid them becoming stale and his high energy level is infectious. The kids on the schools Competition Team are amazing. Competition fighting is optional of course but many enjoy it. Several of the students now compete in national competitions, so it is educational for me to watch them in class. He also has classes in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and Korean Sword fighting if Taekwondo and Hapkido are not enough for youI enjoy the workout and fellowship of this school. Master Asl has a deep understanding of TKD and Hapkido having been practicing them for over 30 years. When he gives instruction on how to compete, he speaks from experience having successfully competed both on the national and international level.Young or old, male or female, if you are looking for a great martial arts school, Asl Junsur Martial Arts will meet your needs. However, if you are looking for a short cut to a black belt, please look elsewhere.
