Im having a difficult time writing this as I really wanted this daycare to be the place for our daughter. It took us some time to finally get her out of the house due to the pandemic and the initial transition phase was very difficult on her and us so the decision to withdraw her had double the impact.I do want to start by saying that the staff here and everyone weve been in contact with have been very nice but Id also like to preface with my reason for sharing this review - I want to set the right expectations for other parents as they consider MHfC but to also hopefully bring awareness to any additional staff members who may have an impact on improving the administration of the school. The things we have found the most challenging really rooted from a lack of communication and transparency, especially in our daughters day to day. Our main goal of enrolling her in a Montessori daycare is to foster independence and nurture her development and also to ensure that we are partnering with the daycare so it becomes a full circle effect. While I understand that the goal of the school is to foster independence and nurture her development as well, I truly felt and have communicated on a few occasions that it seemed like we were left in the dark on what this looked like at the school almost all of the time. We would often have to reach out ourselves to get an idea of how our daughter was doing during the day and would be met with very limited, broad feedback (i.e. she likes to play with the ball, she likes to go outside). The school does provide monthly progress reports, but daily or even weekly reports would be ideal. The progress reports themselves also provide very little detail about our child, again broad and limited. It was more focused on interests that were apparent (enjoyment of being outside/playing individually) rather than insight into developing interests or things that require observation of our child (i.e. our child has started identifying color matching and counting recently but this wasnt brought up during the progress meeting to us). Ive included a screenshot of what was shared as the monthly report we received on our daughters progress this in review. It raises a lot of concern as to whether or not the principle of following the child ingrained in the Montessori practice is followed by the school. While still in the middle of a pandemic, we stated our concerns about our childs health as this was her first time in daycare and she had been dismissed with low-grade fevers 3x in the two months she was enrolled. I strongly feel that, had communication been more frequent and proactive, it would have subsided a lot of our concerns. While I do appreciate the staff at MHfC, there is a very strong need for improvement with communication to parents. This should especially be prioritized when it comes to toddlers who are not yet capable of sharing stories with their parents at the end of their day. It deeply saddens me that weve had to make the decision to withdraw our daughter but proactive communication is very important to us. I hope that the school takes this into light as a practice moving forward.

The passion the Montessori House for Children team have more Montessori learning in unbeatable! The teachers hold AMS credentials and the school is on the pathway to AMS accreditation. What a difference this makes with finding experts who specialize in the correct Montessori school experience. Barbara and the entire team are welcoming and again, extremely passionate for what they do. If you are looking for a Montessori education in the Richmond area, MHFC is the place.

We love Montessori House for Children!” The staff there is so friendly and our daughter likes all of them. They make her feel become every morning with a friendly smile. Mrs. Nelson is an awesome principal, always responsive and willing to take the time to address our needs. Our daughter’s academic abilities have grown tremendously since her first day of school. She has awesome teachers; they are very caring and loving, dedicated to helping the students grow academically and socially and they are great support to the children needs. Our oldest son attended this school for almost 4 years and we have always been happy. Montessori House for Children has been my kids second home.

Great, great, great, I can not stop saying great. This school fulfills all the requirements of a Montessori School. I had the opportunity to do my observation for two hours in a PreK at the Lakemont Bend location. I was amazed by the welcome, the quality of the teaching, the relationship between the teacher and the students, and also by the organization and the beauty of the classroom. Children learn in a heavenly environment. The materials is developmentally appropriate. I am a demanding mother willing to pay for the quality of her childrens learning. I urge all parents in my case who want High Quality for the studies of their children, to hurry to enroll them at Montessori House For Children. Moms, you will not regret it, but you will surely do if your kids are not enrolled in this school.

Money hungry place. never recommend friends to go. The school will force you to auto-pay with your bank account. They even charged us two more months tuition fee until I found out by myself after a few months. Luckily I checked my bill afterward, otherwise they always charged you more than you should pay. They will push you to buy school T-shirt and push you to do donations and also lots of so-called fundraising activities. Poor administration and notorious money eating place. If you might move to a new district in the middle of the year, never consider this school. They will charge you additional one month tuition fee even you inform them 30 days in advance! Also, they will increase lots of school holiday (for example, two weeks break in Christmas and more) it is so inconvenient for full time working parents. Strong smell inside the elementary building, I would not consider it a healthy place for kids to study for long hours.

Montessori House for Children really has been a blessing for my girls. They are learning leaps and bounds above all of their friends at their same age (and a few years older). The school is very true to the Montessori learning concepts and techniques. I have been very impressed not only with the school, but with all of the teachers (not just our classroom teacher). Everyone at the school goes above and beyond to help the students and the parents. I am so happy that I found this school and that my children are learning and growing at levels above normal. They love school and they really miss their teachers, friends and going to LEARN when ever school is not in session. It is a blessing to me that they love learning so much. The teachers and school have allowed and encouraged my girls to grow, become independent, become aware of what they love in education, and allow them to ask questions and dive deeper into any subject that they show more interest about. They are encouraged to ask questions and look for MORE! I cannot thank the school administrators and teachers enough for all that they have allowed my girls to be, do and accomplish!

My husband and I enrolled our son in the toddler program at MHFC a year ago. We have been very impressed with the school and thrilled with our experience there. The teachers are amazing. They provide a warm and engaging environment for the children and are committed to the Montessori philosophy of education. They are caring and knowledgeable, and with their encouragement, our son is developing a strong sense of confidence and independence. He loves going to school and comes home talking about his great teachers and friends. The staff and administrators are also wonderful. They are as friendly and helpful as could be, and our son loves all of those ladies as well. He is a big hugger, and they are always happy to hug him back! We feel fortunate to have found such an exceptional school where our child is happy and thriving!

I have had 2 children attend this school. My oldest has moved onto public school and my youngest is still there. We attended another Montessori prior to this in the Cypress area and thought it was great until we moved the kids here. We were initially drawn due to the great playground, vegetable garden, and love of nature taught to the children because my kids LOVE nature. But since being here they have been nurtured by their teachers, taught so many wonderful things, experienced cultures from around the world thanks to parents and volunteers who come in to speak about where they are from, and they both learned to read quickly and well above their age level. My daughter started reading large chapter books at the age of 5 and my son is just starting to read them at the age of 5 also. The last school my kids attended we had to remove them because a child kept hurting my daughter and after many discussions there was nothing being done. I dont feel this is an issue at all at this school. Any time I have had an issue and discussed it with a teacher, there has been an immediate response and resolution. My son has one more year here before moving into public school, and I can truly say I will miss them being here!

MHFC is a fantastic school. It truly follows the Montessori way and they not only teach academics but life lessons, giving the child the tools for every day activities. My two children have attended this school for the last four years and they have grown into independent, curious children. The staff is very helpful and thoughtful and we are all part of this larger family.

My family has been a part of Montessori House for Children since 2014 and this school has been a real blessing. My two boys are currently in the school and they both are doing excellent. It upsets me to read previous reviews with parents complaining about money. I dont know if you have researched other Montessori schools in the Houston area. I went to plenty of them, talked to the directors, saw the infrastructure, how they apply the Montessori method and this is by far the best school I saw. Have you seen the prices in other schools? tuition if not similar is higher and the quality is not. This school has an excellent infrastructure, Montessori materials, building, has an eco school program, beautiful gardens and more important it has outstanding teachers and administrative staff. They really care about the children and parents. One of the first questions I asked when I had an interview with the owners was teacher rotation. Several of its teachers have been there for many years, some for more than a decade. They may have rotation at the level of assistants, but that is normal for any school.I consider myself a very involved mother. I participate in all school activities, I volunteer a lot and I have never sense any type of bad smell in the school. On the contrary it is always a very clean and neat place. To say is not healthy or that it smells bad ITS JUST NOT TRUE.There are some fundraising activities around the year but all of them are voluntary. The school did changed to an auto pay system. But in my case I talked to the school and explain my personal situation, that didnt allowed to do the auto pay and it was fine. That is the other thing; the school is always open to hear the parents. Every time I have questions or concerns the door have always been open and we have found a solution.Today I went to an observation day at the school. Seeing my oldest son so focused and proud of himself working in the classroom just made my day.My goal as a mother is to educated my boys to be the most integral and complete persons they can be. To respect others, feel empathy, feel comfortable in their own skin and reach their full potential in every aspect of their lives. Montessori House for Children has been and enormous help in this road.I highly recommend this School.

Well, I always want to do a review for this school and finally I am here. My two little kids attended this school for two years. I am a stay home mom so I had good opportunity to participate in school activities. This makes me meet the teachers and the owners quite often.Every school has good parts and bad parts. Good parts—many teachers are very nice and caring. One of my kids is lucky enough to be in such a class. The lead teacher is well organized and knows how to teach. The assistance teacher is very caring and knows how to help kids. My girl learned a lot academically and had a lot of fun in the past two years. The foods as they advertised, are generally healthy (at least more healthy than what are offered in many of other schools). They do not allow sugar drinks and junk foods in the school which is a bless. Now bad parts – some teachers are not as caring. My other kid is in a class where the teachers apparently do not care their own performance. The owner and the director are very determined. They never care parent’s complaints neither. At beginning I planned to let my kids stay for kindergarten but later I made a decision to put them in to public K. I do not want to pay for learning nothing here. This school is all about money, money, money! They make every effort to make money from parents. They make parent buy snacks for school (with good excuses) and make parents donate to schools (well, it is understandable if this is a public school. But for a private school, I would rather they focus on how to improve their services for how much they charge parents) .The tuition is way more expensive than other similar schools in Richmond and Katy area. They made it unnoticeable by doing 10 installments for 9 months school year (v.s. 9 times much higher amount monthly charge, which is noticeable and easy to compare with other schools). Many parents get a feel that the management think parents are fool .I talked to some parents who have kids attend this school and who are thinking to put their kids there. They all have similar concerns and many of them are shopping for other options. For myself, with the two kids going to public K this fall, I am saying bye-bye to this school with mixed feeling. I will miss those nice teachers and be happy that I do not need to deal with the very “smart” managers any more. For my third one, he will attend another area Montessori school soon.

We have even part of the Montessori family for the last 3 years. Our son has blossomed here into a very expressive, curious and fun child. We are thankful for the guidance of Ms. Juana and her team in toddler 2 and Ms. Sandy and her team in EC1 on our son’s development. The administrative staff, teachers and parent volunteers make this school exceptional. It is the best kept secret in the Katy area. It is the only fully accredited Montessori, only eco school in the area and only place where the owner personally welcomes students every morning. The administrative staff is helpful, engaging and encouraging. Ms. Neelo has helped care for our child during emergencies and shown empathy when necessary. During Harvey Our School supported 12 families with the help of administrative staff, teachers, elementary students and parent volunteers. They got cleaning supplies, clothes, food help, laundry service, childcare, school food re imbursement, gift cards and other services. The director, Ms. Nelson and her family, are passionate about their school and it shows everyday with the care and concern they show for our child. We are grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community that puts a child’s need above just making money. We hope you have the opportunity to be part of our Montessori community.

I swear that I am proving an honest review. Most of the teachers and staff are nice and caring. What is disappointing is the high cost. Their tuition is 20% higher than the area schools like Cinco Ranch Montessori School. They charge 10 monthly payments for a nine month school year.Besides, you have to pay several hundreds of application fee, re-entroll, registration, material fee, etc. , Most of these fees are even for existing students. On top of that, the school closes two weeks in winter and about two weeks in summer. So you have both parents work, be prepared to pay extra money and hassle for child care while you work. The school also asks parents in turn to buy healthy snacks for the class. They claim they want to the kids to learn how to buy staff. If they pay the bill, it would be a pleasant experience. Now parents have to pay about $60 snack food bill + 2 hours time for every two or three month circle. The lunch is $4.5 to $5.5 per day and my older kid complained that a $5 meal could not fill him up. He is in fact an average eater for his age.In the past summer, we end up paying about $1400 per month for their summer camp without a lead teacher in class (not as they claimed in their ad). The fee was broken into different portions under different titles and based on irregular time periods. My college major is math and my rule is I do not care about the names of the fees, I just see how much total I pay per month. My kids were not new students. They still charged a high registration fee.I am disappointed to see the school head to an odd direction. It is less and less working parents friendly and more and more expensive for which their quality cannot justify.

I am completely dissatisfied with the way Pam the director handle her business. I am completely frustrated. They claim to have a long waiting list to get into this school because of this they pressure parents to pay an expensive deposit fee and utensils fee about $400 which is NOT refundable. According to what Pam just said to my wife when we decided that our 16 month old daughter could not attend because we could not afford to pay in advance in addition to their fee the tuition of over $1000 when our toddler was not even taken care for yet so we would of be paying on two different day cares at the same time. We are no rich people and now we found ourselves $400 down because of Pams policies. Not only this but when they were setting the appointment to visit our house it had to be a weekday in the middle of the day, when my wife told the teacher that she did not know if she was going to be able to skip her job to be at home the teacher told her that she needed to know right then yes or no because she had an schedule to follow. I guess it is their way or the highway. I am very sure we are not the only parents in the area that feel this way.

MHFC is the home away from home for my 2 children. This is our 4th year at MHFC and I recommend the school unequivocally. In doing just a basic search, you will find there are only a handful of Full Member AMS schools in Houston and the surrounding areas. Upon comparing the annual tuition which all schools charge, I found that MHFC is competitive. I have gone on other school tours and observed classrooms, and in the final evaluation, MHFC is THE BEST.We were intent on investing in early education for our toddlers, and thus sought a thoughtful curriculum, a proven early education method, an international student body, a facility that was more than just safe and clean, a friendly and professional administration, and most importantly caring and nurturing teachers. If you want more than a daycare, a place where your family could become a part of, then this is the School for you. Along with our children, we value the peace curriculum, the beautiful outdoor gardens and Eco-School program certification, the celebration of diversity and multicultural families. I have found the parent education classes beneficial, the book clubs thought provoking, and I appreciate all the community building events where we have made friends. The school activities have shaped our family life. It is the loving nature of the owners and administrative staff who envision the best for the children. This is evidenced when you observe the classrooms.I am an informed parent and an active volunteer because I want to be involved in my children’s life at school. As in all schools, there is an opportunity for parents to donate their time and/or treasure, or not. All donations go towards a fund that provides tuition assistance and teacher/staff professional development. I have read some of the unfair and negative reviews and in my experience they are not representative of the school, the administrative staff or the owners. Quite the contrary. The teachers are highly qualified, the staff/administration/owners have open doors, and have been particularly amazing and understanding of my family’s circumstances in every way. As my son said before he left in his Move Up speech, “I love my school”.

My son was one of the first students to attend this school when it opened and later my daughter happily joined him. Combined they have spent more than 11 years at this school!!I have absolutely nothing but respect, admiration and pride in having had my children there! The staff is trained, accredited besides extremelly dedicated and caring! MHFC is really a gem! I am so happy we gave our kids the opportunity to fully develop their potencial in a true Montessori environment so that they can keep thriving wherever they go! The school has earned all the hardest to achieve acreditations, including from the International Montessori Society, the official entity that inspects Montesssori schools to make sure it complies with the hard to achieve Montessori standards. Few schools in the country achive that! From the set up of the calssrooms, quality of the food served, to the enphasis in self care, care of environment, always stimulating independence and self confidence! My son who started in the public system only in 3rd grade, is now in 7th grade and will finish 7th grade having covered all 8th grade level in all subjects. And my daughter is following his steps, starting in 5th grade next year, she too has chosen to take all courses as Pre-Ap. Both of them thrive not only academically, but are confident, kind and respectful of others and the environment. And I know that the many years they spent at this school has provided not only the foundation for they success but also the values and skills to build a bright future!

Montessori House for Children was the only school we visited when we moved to the area. When we entered this school for the first time we knew for sure this was the kind of school we wanted our oldest and only child at the time, to go to. Little did we know about the Montessori Method at the time, but the peaceful atmosphere we felt then assured us we were making the right decision. We still feel the same each time we enter the school. Our son started the toddler program when he was 18 months old he was still very dependent, his first language was not English and he had just been through an international move. None of this affected his adaptation to the school. The language was never a barrier. He learned English quickly and still kept our mother tongue. We learned more and more about Montessori through the school and the books to embrace the method at home as well, it helps a lot! Our second child started at the school last month and adapted extremely well. After a few days we could already see the impact the school has made.It is an excellent school. We always feel welcomed and we always have our concerns addressed. Our children love the school and they have learned so much it is hard to describe. Our oldest son amazes us every day with his findings!

My son went here for several years. He has ADHD and thrived in this environment. His teachers knew how to cater to his desire to learn new things. They truly adhere to the Montessori guidelines. He is now in public school in the GT program and reads two years above grade level. I think MHFC set him on this course. I did have one bad experience, but it was due to an employee who no longer works there. My husband and I are starting our own school and plan to model it on MHFC.

We moved from overseas on very short notice and MHFC was extraordinarily helpful in placing our very active, independent and challenging 2 yr old daughter into a toddler class, where she was loved, cared for, cherished for her spirit and truly was allowed to shine and thrive! This school is a little gem. Every staff member is so kind and caring and loving, approachable, and truly committed to the montessori method. Any concerns that we had were always addressed, the staff are willing to work towards solutions and be flexible and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. We have since moved and no longer live close to this school, and upon starting at a new montessori school, I have come to realize just how wonderful MHFC was. The benefits of a smaller Mom & Pop school truly make every child/family feel special and welcome.I was surprised to read some of the negative comments on this board. I agree that its not cheap (no private school is), and Montessori method can at times seem inflexible (but this is no different at any other true montessori program). Our experience with the toddler program was outstanding and we miss it very much!
