I had never stepped foot aboard a sailboat before attending the Basic Keel boat course at Tradewinds and now I wish I had done this years ago!! Reading the book and taking the online test prepared me in advance for my class. Tony and Herman were my instructors. Their calm and clear method of teaching kept the stress level of learning something new very low. The boats at Tradewinds are clean and well kept. The staff couldnt be nicer to deal with and the prices for the courses are very reasonable. I have signed up for two more courses, Coastal cruising and Bare boat. This turned out to be a great decision. If your looking for lessons, I highly recommend Tradewinds sailing school.

I couldnt have asked for a more perfect experience. The staff and club members at Tradewinds were warm and welcoming. They made the students feel at home and the atmosphere was perfect for learning this awesome skill set. The equipment and coursework were top notch with a level of professionalism and personality that is unmatched! I highly recommend Tradewinds to any sailor of any skill level whenever i can get someone to listen!

Best sailing school in the Bay. Instructors are knowledgeable and friendly. Not snobs. Friendly staff and competitive prices make it the best sailing school in San Francisco Bay. And there are no hidden cost or: Oh, I forgot to tell you fees. I have many friends who have taken classes from Tradewinds and love them. I have taken the advanced docking class and found it very helpful. I also took the ASA 101,103,and 104 test at Tradewinds. I have been a club member for about 2 years. The fleet membership is the best deal in San Francisco.

Excellent sailing school and a great resource on the water.I have taken several classes at Tradewinds, but am not currently a member. I keep my boat in the same marina as this school and Tradewinds is a wonderful resource to have there.Top notch instructors and I always feel safe stepping on to one of their boats!

Tradewinds Sailing School provided a fantastic experience. I took ASA 101 here and the instructor was even nice enough to give me a ride back to/from the BART station to make it easy. Ive moved away from the Bay Area but would certainly take another class at Tradewinds if I ever make it back to the area.

Weve been members of Tradewinds for two years, and they are a great club. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable (and patient!), the club boats are in great shape and well maintained. We regularly take out club boats and always have a great time doing so, Matt and Brandy are also fantastic hosts that are always happy to answer any questions.

Tradewinds Sailing School & Club has been instrumental for learning not only the fundamentals of sailing; but, the added experience of instructors, staff and members, will take you to the next level of seamanship. This school and club has, within my life, been the pinnacle of sailing erudition. I love this institution and the provided knowledge, experience and service!

Ive been a member here for 4+ years. The value of being a member of this fleet vs. owning your own boat is hard to beat. This club is a great place to learn how to sail and a great way for those who know how to sail, but dont want to commit to boat ownership, to get out on the water. Matt and Brandy, the owners, are super! Not to mention the intelligent, kind, and very fun staff! This club makes you feel like part of the family from the holiday parties (there are many) to working on boats with them if you want, to just having a beer in the club house after a day on the water. Truly a unique club and definitely worth considering if you are interested in sailing.

I entered Tradewinds Sailing School & Club in 2011 knowing very little about sailing. Their 3-class training package and fleet membership made incredible sense to me, economically, practically, socially, so I signed up for three classes and the Bronze (entry level) fleet on the spot. This ended up being invaluable because while I had lived nearby for more than a decade, I always put off the classes. Once I was ready to spend the money, my life changed, entirely for the better. Despite what my non-sailing friends and family now say... The classroom training in and of itself was well worth the money spent. I received top notch education and had access to more than 16 different seasoned sailing instructors and over 30 sailboats of which I took regular advantage. The clubs broad spectrum of sizes and boat manufacturers really helped understand what many sailors dont realize - one size and one technique does not fit all. In addition to the great education, I learned a great deal from the staff and the amazing sailing community they have built over the years at Tradewinds. Its not just a school - its a club and it is filled with good people from all walks of life. One thing that was consistent in my three years of membership - good people, free knowledge, and TONS and TONS of sailing. Did I mention the fleet was economical? I was able to sail multiple days per week for one flat fee. I sailed so much that I actually became incredibly bored of sailing on the bay for an afternoon. Yes, it can happen, or at least did for me. So I ventured out and started chartering around the world. One of the scariest weeks of my sailing life happened in very dangerous conditions under continuous gale in the Mediterranean. I had to apply pretty much everything I was taught and some of the anecdotal lessons shared by the staff and other members. I survived and as soon as I docked, I called internationally and thanked a few people. I cannot recommend Tradewinds Sailing School & Club more. They transformed my life, they taught me skills and they made opportunity open up for me that I could never see happening before I joined. Overall this experience was one of the best of my life and certainly the best money I have EVER spent. Thank you Tradewinds staff and members for being so much better than my expectations!

I took their basic keel course and have never looked back. My wife and I sail every Sunday we can with the membership we have. The price vs boat access after certification is unbelievable. I will be completing my coastal sailing course next month and my wife and I will have the entire bay as our playground!

Tradewind Sailing is wonderful. First the pricing structure offers something for everyone: So if you love to sail this club allows you to find a way to do so. Then there is the wonderful professional caring staff. Their teachers are very knowledgeable, careful, safe and good company. If you do not know how to sail at all (!!) but you are willing to learn, this school is a NO BRAINER to attend. Their fleet of boats are professionally maintained and everyone respects them. This school has figured out how to let us all learn and sail on SF bay on safe and fun boats without killing the bank account. My best time was sailing all day, throwing anchor somewhere for dinner and spending the night on the boat - Life changing experiences!

Tradewinds deserves high marks for their Sailing School, I started out with Basic Keelboat last summer and had such a blast I’m now returning this spring for Basic Coastal Cruising class. Tradewind’s sailboats, gear, and building facilities are all in fine shape. Sailing instructors I’ve met there really know their stuff, are friendly, and will keep after you until you learn the skills. Staff are friendly and well organized, and Tradewinds business and overall management and approach to get you out on the water to become a safe and competent sailor (and have fun!) are all on target. I can’t wait to get back on the water soon sailing with the gang at Tradewinds.

Tradewinds made sailing fun and safe, left the competition and shouting of racing to other schools. Such a good school that my wife and I now live on a boat and are preparing to sail the world!

I know about many sailing schools throughout the country and many are good, but none, to my interpretation, are better than Tradewinds Sailing Club for not only the affordability part but also the experienced people who run the school, along with the very knowledgable instructors. To anyone who is a member, Tradewinds is a home away from home as well as a learning institution with a human face. I speak here not as a novice but one who was in the Coast Guard and hold a Masters Captains License with an American Sailing Association certificate to teach sailing. I do not teach at present, but if I were to teach Tradewinds would be my pick. Nonetheless, I have been a member at Tradewinds for over a decade and will continue my membership. Besides, Marina Bay is the best marina in the San Francisco Bay.--Herman Haluza

I am currently on my sailboat on the island of Bequia in the eastern Caribbean. I never planned to do this, I never had the dream, but it learned to sail at Tradewinds. All my instructors were excellent. I practiced on the various boats in the club and learned a lot about sailboats. One day I said to my husband, you know, Id like this better if the water were warmer and he signed us up for a Tradewinds trip to the Grenadines. We had a great time. So we chartered in the BVI and some how we ended up retiring to a sailboat in the eastern Caribbean. I blame it all in Tradewinds.
