Review №1

I was brand new to dancing and didnt know anyone in this community when I first took a dance class with Groove Juice Swing but everyone was so nice and made me feel comfortable! I absolutely love the dance and the music. Great experience; I plan to spend most of my free time here for the rest of my life.

Background: Ive never taken a dance class before and went to the classes stag (without a partner). I took classes here for three months (Swing 1, 2, and 3).My Personal Dance Experience: Coming out of Swing 1, 2, and 3, I can say that not only my confidence in dancing has improved (going up from 0 is easy), but my personal confidence in general has been enhanced dramatically. Swing 1 started with maybe 36 people (the majority of which seemed to be people who came in pairs), and Swing 3 ended with 10 people (8 of which were people who came without a partner). As you progress from Swing 1 -> Swing 2 -> Swing 3, there are less and less people in the classes but you end up gaining more familiar with the people youre with. Can I dance? I think so. These classes have taught me that there is always room for improvement and the people who come here to learn dont mind if youre still learning, everyone is. If youre serious about learning how to dance you should attend the weekly dances which are held here. Because the classes are roughly 1.5 hours each, its not enough time to learn by itself, you must practice. While the instructors encourage you to go to the dances as soon as possible, I recommend attending them at the middle of Swing 2 as I think they underestimate how overwhelming it can be dancing live with strangers. However, thats just my personal opinion. The Teachers: Just like a dance, every class has two instructors teaching the role of the Leader and Follower. My favourite thing about the people who worked there is that the instructors seemed very passionate about swing dance and genuinely had fun while they demonstrated different moves and customs. Not only would they display how a move was done, they would give you several different variations (and would encourage them) and were not afraid to get silly. After they went over a move, you practiced it with a partner and would offer 1 on 1 advice on how to improve your technique but always in a supportive manner. After every class the instructors allowed you to record them on your phone while they review everything which was covered. The Venue: The German House is such a cool, historic venue to be at in the South Wedge. Its attached to Butapub which I consider to be a great place to eat or drink. I never had an issue parking there. Because the German House is used as a venue for concerts you will occasionally be relocated to the back of it and not the ballroom. I didnt mind this inconvenience because it had Air Conditioning, dancing is way sweatier than I thought it would be.Price: The 4 Week classes which I took are ~$50 which I consider to be incredibly reasonable given the attention and opportunity given at these lessons. Normally you can get $5 off the successive class by signing up at the last lesson of a class, so the price is actually cheaper than advertised.Verdict: Ill continue to take classes here. Im very pleased with the experience and I find it to be a very welcome part of my weekly schedule. Its nice to have a night out to learn and dance!
