My kids both went there since they were babies and this past spring my older child started having a very hard time going to school. Being 3, he couldn’t very well express what was going on. After 8 weeks of sending him home early 3 times a week, he was dismissed because they could not provide what he needed. He has sensory processing delay. And as he is getting older I am understanding that he just did not like his teacher. He is very sensitive and she repeatedly made him feel bad and that’s why he didn’t want to go. It’s extremely sad and that experience has unfortunately had a lasting effect on his self esteem.Unless your very young child is an agreeable robot who will put their arms at their sides when they are told to, I would suggest looking elsewhere. They will stifle your child’s imagination and make your child insecure. And then they will make you feel like a terrible parent. We did however have a lovely experience in the toddler program and I would highly recommend those teachers. I’ll never forget the kindness and how much Miss Danielle embraced my children’s quirks.

We were so afraid that quarantining during COVID for several months had an adverse effect on our child and very intentionally sought out MSR when we were comfortable with in-person school again. My expectation was that Montessori would give us the best education after months of isolation from other children. Our son attended the back half of their summer school program and then began the regular school year in September 2020. Though we had a couple of meetings throughout the school year, there were no red flags raised and it seemed like he was thriving and happy. Despite a speech delay, MSR never shared anything alarming about our son. We had a nice rapport with the staff and it felt like they really cared. When he stopped napping in February, we were told that we would have to pick him up early (instead of 4p, his new pick up would be 11:30a which is impossible for a working parent). Almost out of nowhere shortly thereafter, we began getting reports that our son was aggressive, disruptive, and not interacting with materials appropriately. Either these behaviors developed out of nowhere or MSR decided to ignore them for months and kick him out when they couldnt handle him anymore, which is a MASSIVE DISSERVICE TO A TWO YEAR OLD CHILD. We were pretty abruptly asked to leave and literally, as I was ushered out of the door with tears running down my face, I was told that I had support (from them). Fast forward six weeks and we have not even received a text message from the director or any of his teachers asking how he or we are doing. I am hurt and disappointed that MSR was not forthright about my child’s development, were hesitant to implement new disciplinary techniques to handle his challenges, and most of all, I feel that their loving aura was fake.

My daughter went to the MSR for several years. We had multiple issues before finally withdrawing from their daycare. From financial issues (which resulted in their head of school resigning) “forgetting” to call our daughter for activities, and canceling school and stating that “our contract doesn’t specify that school will be in person”.While MSR does offer great classes and educational opportunities for kids, we had several instances where our daughter was “forgotten” for the classes. When I called to ask if she was included, they promised to get back to me. After following up several times they informed me that they “forgot” to include my daughter in the group and that I don’t understand how busy they are...After choosing to remain closed for the semester, MSR refused to return tuition. They stated that their contract does not state how many classes will be included in the school year (the school calendar is not part of the contract).Overall, their staff is incredibly unresponsive and inconsiderate to their parents. We had one specific incident where our daughter came home with a significant bite mark that I did not notice until bedtime. Whenever I asked my daughter about it she informed me that another student at school bit her. I followed up with the school and was informed that “oh, we meant to tell you but we have been really busy”.

I kept calling them and emailing them to give me more information and they said they will send me everything via email, I never heard back on many occasions. I spoke to Lorraine who is the head of the school and never heard from her. This is very disappointing coming from a school that is supposed to be very good. they dont deserve it.

We moved several times and my kid attended 4 schools. Compare other three. This is the best. The teacher and staff are amazing. The most important is their mission. This is the real Montessori school .

Our daughter has had a great experience at MSR. We made an international move to Rochester in 2015, and the school gave us excellent support in easing her transition. She was made to feel comfortable there, forged strong connections with other kids, and has had the chance to learn a lot over the past 2 years. Weve benefited from a very individualized learning environment, and a warm and safe atmosphere. The teachers and staff are wonderful.

I have a disappointing experience with this school. Although I filled the forms and paid the application fee, they EVALUATED my child, then politely!!!! refused my application because my child is shy and an English-learner! Although we went to talk and sent email to explain our feelings, they did NOT RESPOND to us! I felt DISCRIMINATED!Now, I have concerns about their knowledge about early childhood psychology, their diversity and equity visions, educational backgrounds, or professionality. If you have a child to send this school, be prepared to hear AN EVALUATION about your PreK child. Or, keep this school as an alternative because, in the first week of September, you may hear their DECISION.

Our children attended MSR for more than three years. The staff is extremely dedicated to Montessori approach and have truly helped instill a love of learning that continues to this day. Couldnt have asked for a better environment for them through the years.

MSRs teachers and staff are outstanding and the program is a fantastic choice for early childhood education, fostering independence, an appreciation for self-care and caring for our community to name a few. My daughter blossomed in the toddler and childrens house programs and was lucky to have several wonderful teachers and staff members guide her through her first days of care outside of our home.

My son has been attending MSR for the last 2 years. He began in the toddler room and has now moved up to the Magnolias classroom. His teachers are incredible and compassionate. He has made many friends and has grown into a empathetic and caring 31/2 year old. I am continually impressed by the staff and welcoming community here at MSR. It is a wonderful place for a child to grow!

My children both attend the Montessori School of Rochester, and have been since the age of 9 months. Our son was in the Nido Community until he was about 18 months of age, at which point he moved up to the Toddler Community. His development, and independence has absolutely skyrocketed since we joined the MSR Community. He has been given the opportunity to choose his work, and be continually challenged and introduced to new work as he grows and develops. The community is strong with individuals who are personally invested in our childrens lives. Our children love going to school, are happy when we drop them off, and happy when we pick them up. Placing our children in the MSR community has been one of the best decisions we could have made for our family. We feel blessed to have found such a positive and challenging environment for our children to continue their growth and development in.

Lead paint on the built in shelves and crumbing asbestos tiles on the floor. A toxic environment.
