I had a hard time deciding which pottery studio to take classes and am so glad to find Academy of Art University - Art Gallery. They have several pottery wheel rooms and I can go anytime in addition to my regular class. The teacher, Mary, is very nice and explains things in a fun relaxed way.The location is good and there is plenty of off street parking. Its also VERY inspiring to see so many talented peoples work..pottery, photography, metalsmithing, glassblowing, fabric arts...its 3 stories of creativity and its AWESOME. Everyone is nice and their restaurant makes delicious food. This is a very happy relaxing inspiring place. Its like comfort food for your creativity!

This place is one of my favorite things about San Francisco. If youre considering an art class in the area, this would be where to do it. The teachers are all well-trained and helpful, the open studio time is more than generous. I originally thought it was fairly expensive, but then I calculated the amount Im paying per hour in class, plus the materials provided, never mind adding in extra studio time, and its really a very good deal as well.

Ive been taking classes at Academy of Art University - Art Gallery for some time now and have loved every minute of it. My only complaint would be that it can be very habit forming!The classes have just the right blend of structure and freedom and are great for people of all skill levels. While the classes can seem expensive when you break it down to a weekly cost and consider that it includes open studio time, firing and glazing its very reasonable.If youve ever had a desire to play with clay I would highly recommend Academy of Art University - Art Gallery.

I signed up for a beginners jewelry making class this past spring to rekindle my creative side/prevent a slow death from corporate boredom and it was great! Academy of Art University - Art Gallery offers a early sign-up discount and that was a nice plus. Also there are so many classes to choose from and Academy of Art University - Art Gallery is easy to get to via Brown line.In my class, we learned the basics to jewelry making and made a little piece during every class. The only con I would have is my teacher was kind of quiet and did not offer as much direction as I would have liked. But all in all, I would take another class again!

I took a class at Academy of Art University as part of a birthday party for a friend. We made terra cotta pottery, which I had done before in high school and thought it as a pretty cool idea for a party.Our instructor was very thorough with us explaining the techniques of stretching the clay. She also demonstrated different things that could be made, which was nice and gave us all ideas. Then she let us get our hands dirty with the clay. After the painting process, we left our pieces to be fired in the kiln and can pick them up in a couple of weeks.The class was $25, which is extremely affordable. I took a peek at the other classes that were offered and there is everything imaginable. I might go back for a jewelry making class.
