I have been a part of BHP SF for 2 years now with no prior acting experience. This has been an amazing training ground to get my acting career started and continue to hone my craft. The teachers have a ton of experience and have helped prepare me for the industry. Most importantly, they love what they do and are committed to their students. I have been with an agent for a year now and started working as an actor within the first few months. It has been such an amazing experience to have teachers and classmates that inspire you, support you and want to see you succeed. I couldnt have asked for a better place to become an artistic killer.

This is the finest acting school I have ever been to. So much more than the excellent core of scene study, the schools focuses on actor administration and actor attitude. Because of this school, I was able to get an agent fairly quickly, having no prior experience with how to go about this. Both teachers are fantastically generous with their time and commitment to each student as individuals, and all of the students are tremendously warm and supportive. I studied there for several years, and cannot recommend it more highly.

The Beverly Hills Playhouse has been my home for the past 2 years. Ive found friends, colleagues, compatriots, as well as my passion for acting here.I was already a fairly successful actor before joining, but I have found that my talents have grown exponentially since Ive joined. Its an intense yet nurturing environment to grow, and you really find out what it means to be director-proof.The training is incredibly hands-on - you act as a director, producer, costumer, make-up artist, actor, etc. for every scene you put up - and in that way, It is invaluable experience for any production you book.If you want to be a professional actor, this is where you want to hone your craft!

Ive been with the Beverly Hills Playhouse in SF since it opened its doors nearly 4 years ago. If youre looking for a place that challenges you and uplifts you week in and week out then look no further. Our very giving teacher, Rob, doesnt let us off the hook with ANYTHING and has made it a mission to create a pool of professional, talented working actors here in the Bay Area. We work hard in this room and expect a lot of each other. Slackers and people with bad attitudes dont last long here. Its not just about acting, but also attitude (are you professional on set? Will people want to re-hire you?), and administration (are you taking care of the business side of your career? Are you reaching out to the people you want to work with in the industry?). We are being taught to CREATE our own careers and opportunities, not wait for them. We have play readings and movie assignments every week so that we know the industry were working in past, present, and future. This is only a fraction of the bang for your buck youll be getting in addition to learning about acting here. And Ive applied so much of what Ive learned in class to my life outside of acting and I can say that Im a better person because of it.There is no other class like this.

Plain and simple: This class is one of the main reasons I am now a full time working actor in San Francisco. They taught me everything I needed to achieve my dreams in this tough industry. And now I am in the process of doing just that! They teach Acting- Attitude- Administration. My acting skills have greatly improved, my attitude is remains positive even in extremely demanding and strenuous situations, and my administration skills are outstanding. (I do at least 2 hours of admin every single day.) There are no off days. These are the keys to success in this career and it all starts with the Beverly Hills Playhouse in San Francisco.I feel so blessed and fortunate to have been part of this group of supportive and uplifting artists! Thank you Rob Zimmerman and everyone else who has pushed me to be the artist that I am today!

Ive joined The Beverly Hills Playhouse SF almost 9 months ago and I cant believe how quickly time flies! This school teaches the fundamentals of acting from all angles whether it be on stage, on set, or day to day life. We learn the positive attitudes that help actors achieve their goals in this challenging industry. The classes are a wonderful mix of talented actors some whom been acting for many years to those just getting their first taste. Our instructor Robert molds the lessons to each individual which is great for the class to observe and learn. When you come in to class there is this amazing energy and support that channels through your performance!

The only reason that BHP SF exists is to develop professional working actors. This is not an 8-week workshop but a continuous development of the acting trade that focuses on three facets of the industry: acting, attitude and administration. Ive been studying here for 9 months already and I couldnt be happier with my development. Highly recommended.

The Beverly Hills Playhouse is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my entire life. The two teachers each bring their own unique style and high acting IQ’s that create the perfect balance. This allows the school to avoid being one dimensional just as the craft itself should avoid.Rob, is a master at finding what makes each individual actor/student tick. He’ll cut through, capture and crystallize what is inside of you as an actor and where you shine and what you need to work on. He almost has a third eye in seeing you in all of your ability and weaknesses to work on not just as an actor but as a person. I’ve had many acting teachers and what I love about Rob is the class is not about him. I truly believe he only has one focus and that is to bring the best out of you in all forms to enhance your ability...whatever it takes and if you’re willing and hungry. If acting is inside of you..Rob has the ability to take that spark and turn into a roaring blaze. He knows how to light a fire under you and put you into a zone where you feel not just the clarity of the duty within but “alive”. I can only guarantee this if you truly must act within.Peter, is the other beautiful flip side of the coin. He’s a master at choices in acting like I’ve never seen from any teacher I’ve had before. Robert DeNiro says, “acting is all about the choices.” Which makes Peter an incredibly valuable asset. In my opinion, he’s also a borderline genius director. This could come from his vast ability in seeing brilliant choices in his mind’s eye. He brings the art in him to the art in you when teaching. He opens your heart and then your mind to the infinite choices while staying true to the character and script. His love and joy for acting is infectious in the classroom and just like Rob he cares deeply about each student. You’ll be safe here, better here and I can guarantee one thing...YOU’LL NEVER FORGET THE BEAUTY AND MAGIC OF YOUR TIME HERE...if you’re ready to bring everything and simply LISTEN.

Peter Allas is a great teacher. Rob Zimmerman is one of smartest teachers and simply a dramaturgical wizard. He could teach a tree not only how to act, but how to make it in the industry. These guys are the best acting school in San Francisco, and I have been around for a long time.

I have been studying at BHP-SF under Rob Zimmerman for 3 years. I started in the orientation class with no experience and I now have an agent and book acting jobs regularly. There is no way I would be pursuing this career without the support, kindness, ass-kicking and intelligence of the school. Not only am I a better actor, but I am a better person because of BHP. Its just a great place. I started with almost 0 knowledge, but through the integration of reading plays and watching movies into the curriculum, I am able to better collaborate on set. Its a well rounded, on-going education.

Ive been studying at BHP for close to 2 years now, and there are not words for how impactful this school has been in my life.Forget how much more well-rounded of an actor Ive become (which has been a drastic improvement, by the way), I feel like the biggest impact this class has had is on me as a person; I have learned so much about myself, and my emotional life, that 2 years ago I wouldnt even recognize myself. But back to the acting: Rob and Peter are phenomenal teachers, simply put. Sure, their style of teaching isnt for everyone, and the classes approach might not be your cup of tea...but if it is, if you come in for an audit and really get it, dont be surprised if youre still here 3 years later. If theres a class that better represents the rigors of a professional set, and the preparation that professional actors do...well, I havent heard of it.

I have been with BHP-SF for over 2 years now I cant say enough about this school. I am a working actor with and agent because of BHP. What I loved is that I started with nearly zero prior experience and was taken in with smiles and enthusiasm. The class is a scene study class but its also so much more. Play readings, movie discussions, in class exercises. Learning and exploring the business and legacy of the film and theater like plays and films, directors and writers, dance choreographers and music composers. They help find agents, have class industry discussions, and administrative help. Most importantly they teach discipline. Holding you to the same standards as any set. I truly love this place, the teacher, the students, and environment. A great place to learn and grow not matter what skill level.

From the moment I stepped through the doors of the Beverly Hills Playhouse, I immediately felt at home. I was very shy and quiet, but that didnt stop people from approaching me to make sure I felt welcome. I showed up the very next day to make sure that I didnt waste any time not being a student there. As inviting as this class is, the structure and the teaching are very serious; the teachers, Robert Zimmerman and Peter Allas, make sure to equip you with all the tools necessary to improve as an actor and hold you accountable when youre not reaching your full potential. Milton Katselass books, the teaching materials, are extremely insightful and, in my opinion, give you everything you need to improve as an actor. I couldnt imagine studying anywhere else.

I can’t say enough good about BHP. I was lucky to study with Rob Zimmerman and Peter Allas for close to three years. I’ve seen the theater grow when they began putting productions on. It’s a place where standards are high and so is the love for the industry. Rob does a great job of preparing students to get out there for auditions in theater, commercials and television. The students who go here are fantastic and quickly become family to one another. If you’re looking for a place to study the craft or see a high quality production, come check out BHP!!!

Teachers Rob Zimmerman and Peter Allas are forces of nature with an undying passion for storytelling. They have decades of combined experience in the business in major markets, so they know what theyre talking about.Theyve cultivated a group of about 80 passionate, welcoming, and supportive students who inspire each other to develop their craft and move their careers forward. The stage at BHP is a safe space to explore, have fun, get wild and out there, and fail. Really, the sky is the limit. You just have to put the work in.I came in with a bit of acting experience under my belt (few plays in college). Within a year of study, I got an agent and worked on a good number of commercial, television, and film sets in the Bay Area. Sooo I guess BHP was helpful ^__^

I was fortunate enough to be part of the the Beverly Hills Playhouse: San Francisco (BHP/SF) in late 2009 and watch it grow into one of the great schools of acting for the Bay Area. I had absolutely no experience in acting other than a kindergarten play I did when I was about 4 years old.For 3 of the 6 years, I commuted from Vacaville,CA (~50+ mile drive) before I finally moved to the Bay area and I never regretted it. Whats great about this school is that its built solely to create professional actors. With that being said, any student who stays committed and has passion will easily acquire an agent and be sent to auditions. Of course, that is up to the student to when they want that to happen but they have the help, resources and support from the school to make it happen anytime they are ready. The school stresses HEAVILY on professionalism which is why most of the major Talent Agencies, Casting Agents, Directors and Producers of the Bay Area hold the students of the school in such high regard... or so Ive heard ;-)Rob Zimmerman and Peter Allas are an amazing force of teaching to be reckon with. Even though they both have different angles on how to approach the teaching, they are both EXTREMELY effective in making sure the students are never confused. Questions are always encouraged and all are answered before moving on. Whats great is that their teaching is NOT cookie cutter and every student is treated separately with their own path to follow.BHP/SF is an on-going workshop which, for my money, is as good as it gets. Scene study is the primary focus. Exercises are also stressed such as cold readings, monologues, etc...After 6 years with this school, I look back and appreciate how much the industry has changed in the Bay Area due to their influence. Im looking forward to the future!

I have been attending BHP in San Francisco for 2 years and could not be more pleased with my experience. I started with zero acting experience, but was booking acting work within a few months and had an agent within a year. I have shot many short and feature indie films as well as several commercials and industrials, and have performed in several plays.Whats great about BHP is that there are two components. First, there is the scene work in class where you perform scenes from plays or movies and get feedback from the teacher. That helps your improve your acting. The approach is student specific, and teachers hone in on what each individual student needs to improve to become a better actor. The 2 San Francisco teachers are both great!Second, there are the required administrative meetings where you learn how to get proper head shots, to use tools to submit for acting work, and to expand your contacts within the industry. BHP very much wants students to dive in and start seeking work right away, and that has been pivotal to my success.Highly recommended!

I have trained several places for acting. I came to BHP to sharpen my professional game as an actor: the logistics of auditioning and getting an agent, focusing on training for roles I really want, on the acting career I envision for myself. The core of the class is scene study. Also, depending on the student and the class, there are exercises like song & dance (no actual singing or dancing skill required), improv, stand-up comedy, monologues that can be brought in when prepping for auditions, etc. They also encourage putting up original work. There are play and movie assignments to make you a more knowledgeable actor (so if you run into Francis Ford Coppola at a party, you have something intelligent to say). And every other week is an Admin check-in with classmates to see what progress you are making on your career. Have you taken those new headshots? Did you email that director? And my favorite part: How can we help? And they really do help--shooting or editing a reel, making referrals for bookings or agents, recommending a photographer for headshots, showing up at your play, or just sending you a text to encourage to take whatever scary next step you are trying to take. And at the beginning of every class, they celebrate wins, so if you booked a great job or had the audition of a lifetime, you have people who are genuinely super happy for you. Also, when I go to auditions now, I usually see my classmates there, which makes every casting office feel less intimidating. There are separate classes for voice training, dance and other skills and productions and agent showcases that are cast exclusively with BHP students. I booked my agent through a BHP showcase and a few weeks ago I saw a show at BHP with casting directors in the audience.BHP SF is also still connected to Beverly Hills Playhouse in LA, so I have visited them for workshops and classes when Ive been in LA (again, depending on the student/level and the class). There are also several online resources and databases that are part of the benefit of being connected to a school bigger than SF.Its an ongoing class every week of the year. Parking is easier than I thought it would be and its very Bart-accessible.Two notes: 1. It is a time commitment. Plan on 8-12 hours a week of rehearsal/reading/movie watching time outside of class. 2. This is not an on-camera class, though some students do shoot scenes that they and/or the teacher have liked if they want it for their reel.

I had no formal acting training when I started at BHPSF. I just knew I wanted to be an actress. In the three years I studied there, I grew tremendously as a performer. Through rehearsing scenes, putting them up in class, and then going back into rehearsal to incorporate the teachers notes, I learned how to explore characters and make interesting choices, some of which incorporate the crazy, bizarre, and very real human behavior we get to see every day here in good old SF. Once I achieved a basic level of training, I found BHPSF to be a wonderful, safe space to push the limits of what I was willing to do as a performer. Most importantly, I learned how to trust myself as an actress. I know that my training there has left me prepared to handle anything that might come my way on a set or in an audition.I also found BHPSF to be a very practical school. They very much believe that it doesnt do you much good to be an excellent actor if you have no idea how the business works and how to handle it: how to get an agent, how to develop an effective reel, how to be on set, etc. I signed with my current agent through a BHPSF showcase. My training and preparation there has led me to a point in my career where I book jobs at a respectable rate and am looking forward to bigger and better things.
