I strongly recommend Blue Bear band workshops to anyone interested in having a true band experience and improving their musical abilities. We received professional level guidance in rehearsing songs and preparing for a live show at a local club. The instructors I have had are all knowledgeable, supportive and offer their musical expertise in guiding us through our set list. I know I have benefited greatly from my experience with the Blue Bear band workshops.

There is really nothing like playing live for an appreciative audience. Blue Bear makes this happen. Its been said that most of us will only get 15 min of fame. The Blue Bear workshops make this happen at every showcase. Its like being a ROCK STAR, without all the hassle. A unique experience to be shared and cherished by all. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff and administration at Blue Bear. ROCK ON......

Full disclosure, I work here, but recently I signed up for a songwriting workshop so I feel I can honestly offer feedback as a client.Having little to no musical experience I was not sure what my role in class was going to be; I love writing & singing little ditties when I am driving, or shopping, or cleaning, or skiing... pretty much wherever - you get the idea. Well, the songwriting workshop has been perfect. I was welcomed in and invited to collaborate with some VERY talented people. They took my punk rock song about people who dont use their blinkers and turned it into something quite fun and before you knew it, they had me play bass on some songs. I AM LOVING IT!!!If you are still reading this, and thinking of taking a class - just do it. If you are curious about a workshop and want to play with others, come check out our show at the Boom Boom room on Wed. Sept 18th! ALL ORIGINALS, including Turn Indicator.

I like Blue Bears diverse variety of teachers, styles of music and range of class offerings, but what I particularly enjoy is the individual guidance in finding the right fit classes/private instruction and teachers for helping my child pursue his personal music tastes and goals. As a parent, I also really enjoy Blue Bears proactive approach to minimizing stress whether it be parking alerts or handling class cancellations and or reschedules with forethought. I highly recommend!

I love Blue Bear! I had such an amazing time at my first band workshop! Our director Jim is so helpful and he really created a space where we could all come together and make fun music! We had a blast! Its been a dream of mine to sing with a band and I am so grateful to Blue Bear! If youve ever wondered what it would be like to sing or play music please give yourself the gift of a Blue Bear class!

Discovering Blue Bear made my dream come alive: I finally picked up my bass and made myself a promise to learn to play bass well enough to do a workshop... so I did! I keep going back to workshops because A) the teachers are AWESOME, B) you get to hear what a real band sounds like, C) the teachers are AWESOME, D) when youre on stage, it doesnt matter if you suck, no one will judge you, E) the teachers are AWESOME, and F) who knows, you might leave a workshop with a band of your own (its happened to me!).Even if youve never thought about Blue Bear before, GO. Sign up. Do your thing. Prepare to rock!

There are many dreams we have; from being a winning pitcher in game 7 of the World Series, to rocking out in a band. Blue Bear has no expertise in the area of sports - but having appeared onstage 3 times in bands at Bay Area clubs after 40+ years away from music was truly a dream come true. And it wasnt a feel bad for the old guy move - each band learned their tunes, practiced and prepared and then as a team each band had a ball onstage. If youve ever toyed with the idea of taking what ever musical skills you have on stage - drop your inhibitions and get on board with Blue Bear. My only regret - Ive move away from SF and may never get another class there! But I havent stopped playing!

Blue Bear is the ONLY place to go for professional, progressive, and fun musical instruction. I have attended off and on (pretty much on now as I added the fabulous band workshops) for at least 15 years and would not switch. It is for all ages, levels, and personalities! Every staff member is a pro.

Kent is the best. The Big Group acoustic guitar classes are a great way to learn in an inviting classroom environment. Ive also gotten to know my class mates which is an added bonus.

Ive been taking band workshops at blue bear for a couple of years now as well as a vocal class & a 1-day harmonica workshop. Its all been top rate with excellent teachers who are super knowledgable & personable working musicians. I also love that they are there to teach the kids music & do outreach in the schools. And their director Dennis is awesome & so responsive to feedback. I think this is a wonderful resource here in SF, and I like that besides the main campus theres band workshops at Lennon studios in SOMA. I look forward to having fun at bandcamp every week! And to top it off, we get to have graduation showcases at real venues like Boom boom room - nothing like unleashing your inner rock star! Highly recommend :)

Sharman Durans Jazz Class!! I didnt know what to expect. The first day I was terrified, by the second I was just scared but by the end I was beyond inspired! Sharman is a pro & she treats you that way. She gets you performance ready whether you think youre ready or not. Youll leave with confidence and youll enter into a whole new way of thinking about jazz. The class is small, the attention is direct and Sharman knows what shes doing. Join her - its so fun!
