Jay is the best guitar teacher I have had, and I have had many in my quest for a teacher that understands what I am looking for. Not only did Jay understand exactly the kind of music I wanted to be able to play, but helped me understand and internalize complex music theory, core principles guiding instrumental and vocal composition and also guitar technique. I still owe my knowledge of modes to him. YouTube videos always confused me and now I know that most people who had claimed to understand modes and tried to teach me never really understood them all that well. Jay is also a very friendly and cool guy. Great guitar teacher overall.

The ABSOLUTE BEST decision I made in 2020 was to start taking guitar lessons with Jay Skyler. If you want to learn to play guitar, I would recommend you look no further. Jay is not only a GIFTED guitar teacher, he is also super fun. I have made more progress learning my instrument in a year with Jay than I really ever imagined. Simply put, this guy rocks, and he can teach you to do the same.

Jay is brilliant... period... Ive been working with him via Zoom and Skype and its been awesome! Jays method to learning guitar whether beginner or advanced is incredible, clear and simple... in just a year with him hes helped open up my playing to places I didnt know existed... he even teachers my father starting from the very basics... affordable, reliable and all around awesome person, musician and teacher... Jay is an incredible instructor. Over the years I have had a few music instructors, but Jay is by far the best. His knowledge of music theory is amazing. He knows it all, and can explain technical concenpts and terms in a manner that is easilly understood. But, he also makes the lessons enjoyable. You will never get bored learing from Jay.

Jay is an AMAZING guitar teacher. Ive studied guitar for years, and in six months Jay got me to places I couldnt get to in sixteen years!!! He doesnt just teach you to play songs, he teaches you musicianship. On day one he had me soloing and I havent stopped jamming since.

Jay will teach you what you need to know -- hell show you very useful techniques and explain why they work, correct your mistakes as you go along, and make you laugh at the same time. Hes got a ton of experience both teaching and playing. Jay got me addicted to guitar!

I started taking lessons from Jay before I even had a guitar - after wasting way too much time on guitar hero 1-3 and rockband, I decided it was time to learn to actually play. I took lessons from Jay for about 11 months (only stopped because career moved me to Boston) and learned more than I thought possible given my age / complete lack of dexterity. After a few months I even bumped up my lessons to twice a week as I found that I was noticeably better after each session. Jay has a very unique / fun / engaging style of teaching the guitar. Ive continue to play almost daily in Boston, though without the constant progression I enjoyed while working with Jay.
