This place is full of people that have both really big heads and really big hearts! The culture is encouraging and the mission embodies loving God and loving people. I highly suggest serving for any period of time and to also consider enrolling in the SOM. All good stuff.

It is a great place for those looking for caring and wonderful people. Ministry at its finest. I as a drifter hope that all of you are blessed. Kent, you are a good man and Kate, you will always be remembered forever and Alyssa, wow what a wonderful heart you have. Such sweet spirits all of you. For those not mentioned, you know who you are and I love you too. Ever since I went back to the bigger city, I have been thinking of you. God bless. Love -- egghead / Mike. Thanks for taking me with you to Fort Bragg. I love you for that. Once more.. I love you and Kate, may God truly give you a very special blessing. You are amongst the best and are also in great favor of the Lord.

Two years ago I moved from Michigan to San Francisco. I was looking for a group of generous people to lend their time and show me around the city.I reached out to SF City Impact and they received me very well and showed me much more than I could ask for.I got involved with several of their programs: Adopt a Building, Sunday and Wednesday worship gatherings. However it was the relationships I built with the people there who were willing to offer their time that really displays the values of City Impact.

When I first moved to San Francisco, everyone told me to avoid the Tenderloin neighborhood and I did. While I was doing a field research project in college, I happened to spend a lot of time walking through the Tenderloin and Civic Center. For months, I walked by the people using drugs, abusing themselves on the streets. I thought, what can I do? Giving money is never the answer, and food might just be a temporary solution. It seems like these people are stuck in the cycle of poverty and most of our responses to poverty don’t necessarily help, we end up putting them deeper in that cycle. So I did research on organizations that work in this poverty-stricken area for the cause of homelessness and found City Impact.I was never aware of the root problem of homelessness until I volunteered with City Impact. I thought I was just going to come for a couple days and I ended up coming weekly for about two years and was highly involved with Adopt-A-Building (AAB). What I love about AAB is that it’s about relationships because the root cause of poverty isn’t the lack of material needs, but rather a broken relationship although economic aspects would help alleviate poverty. It’s costly to be a friend. To be a friend to someone on the margins may seem costlier. But what kept me going for that long? It’s the hope that change is possible, it’s the friendships that were formed with fellow volunteers and with the people we serve, it’s the way City Impact rethinks the way they do AAB so that it’s always growing and reevaluating itself. Through City Impact, I learned to care and to be friends with everyone in the city.
