I took a couple lessons with Olivia while I was in town for work. Within a week I went from always wanting to try surfing to being able to paddle out to the back and stand up on a wave! Olivia was a great teacher and gave me the right things to work on at the right time to facilitate my learning. Even after our lessons were over she was super helpful sending me things to think about and helping me choose a wet suit so I could keep riding out here now that Im back home in Alaska. My lessons with Olivia have been great! I recently moved to SF and really didnt know where to start. Olivia went above and beyond in helping me not only learn proper form, but also how to wax a surf board, places to park, best equipment for my needs, and additional resources to help me continue to learn after our lesson.Olivia is a great resource and has even connected me with other surfers around my level so that we can surf together!I always leave the lesson confident and knowing what I can practice. Olivia is an awesome instructor! I learned a lot not only from the lesson itself, but also from before (understanding which surfing spots work for which condition, what to prepare for Bay area surfing, etc.) and after the lesson (from the detailed write-up from Olivia). Shes also very patient during the lesson: the weather condition on the day I had my lesson was less than ideal and it brought out lots of mistakes I tend to make when Im out of my comfort zone. My surf lesson was amazing! I wanted to improve my surfing skills as I’ve been surfing several times before. I had a lot of fun learning to surf from Olivia, she was thorough and stayed with me when I had my fist surfing class. She was really good in instructing me and I felt safe trying out this new sport with her!

At first, I booked one class for my 12 year son with Olivia just to try out surfing and get a feel for it. Olivia is awesome. She is so encouraging, patient and knowledgeable. She is also very professional. She sent us online resources for helpful surfing videos and where to buy gear. The email also included a feedback with what to work on. My son enjoyed his first class with her, so we booked the three classes group package because I am interested in surfing as well! My wife and I had a private 2 person lesson to try surfing for the first time and we had an AMAZING time. Olivia was excellent at pre-session communication and absolutely killed it as an instructor! I booked a private lesson with Olivia at SF Surf Lessons and had an amazing time! She contacted me before the lesson with clear instructions on what to bring, where to park, and where to meet. During our lesson, she was friendly, encouraging, and gave helpful, specific feedback on my form. She also wore a mask the entire time to be extra safe during these covid times. After our lesson, she followed up with an email with more feedback, resources for practicing at home, and information about equipment (as I was asking about it during our lesson). Justin is awesome! He worked exceptionally well with my two kids, ages 9 and 11. He was actively engaged throughout the entire lesson and the kids have not stopped talking about the lesson and surfing all day. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning to surf or wants to improve their surfing skills because he has a lot of experience and has exceptional communication skills.

Ive taken lessons with Justin a couple times now and I have to say he is definitely someone you want to take lessons from! His communication is awesome! He really takes the time to explain and make sure you understand. After your surf sessions he provides you with an overview of the session, goes over what you did well and gives tips and suggestions (direction if you will) on what you need to work on. I will def be spending more time in the water with Justin! Can already feel myself improving and fears of the water subsiding.

Justin is fantastic. He clearly communicates, and also gets you into surf mode very quickly. We were in the water paddling waves in the first 20 minutes. He’s also quite thoughtful about safety. Definitely highly recommend. Also fun and personable!

Even if youre more experienced, Justins great because he can adapt the lesson to your skill level and point out things you wouldnt have even noticed or picked up on without his guidance.The best part is that Justins also an awesome guy to hang out with in the water! If youve ever wanted to learn how to surf, Justin is your guy! Hes naturally confident in the water, having surfed for twenty years, but on top of that, hes also a very patient/experienced teacher, with teaching degrees and working for Teach For America. Most importantly, he made sure I was improving, having fun! I always wanted to learn how to surf but never had the confidence, Justin gave me just that and its priceless!

Had my lesson with Justin. He explained what to expect to me prior to the lesson and he gauged where I was skill wise to make the lesson adapt perfectly to me. Had a positive attitude and focused on my form and actions to give me solid tips and got me standing up on unbroken waves by the end of the first lesson. Planning on more lessons in the future.

I didnt know what to expect but Im happy I took the plunge (pun intended). Super accommodating, we were able to take our time on land before getting in the water. Once we were in, the waves were mellow and my girlfriend and I both stood up by the end. Good day for sure, some celebratory beach drinks were had after.

Justin is a great surf coach. He had me up on my feet within a couple waves - something I was not able to accomplish on my own in 5 sessions prior.

Justin is a gifted surf instructor! Over the course of the lesson, he identified a handful of discrete skills I should work on/changes I should make to my surfing in order to improve and did a great job of both: 1) explaining precisely HOW I should go about making those changes; and 2) providing feedback after watching me surf about the extent to which I was/was not succesful in implementing the approaches wed just talked about.I also really appreciated that he shared written feedback and resources with me *after* the lesson, so I was better equipped to keep building on what Id learned in the lesson.

I learned a ton during our lesson and definitely way more than I couldve ever taught myself. We had a blast. Justin gives clear, actionable coaching that had me pop-ing up and catching waves in no time at all!
