Trashy school, trashy students, school is broker than the hobos that sleep in it. And it has little to no extra classes for you if you are in the arts. Its military or bust for them. Would appreciate it if they were a little bit more diverse with the people that dont want anything to do with the military and just want to go to a halfway decent school in the sarasota area.

This school, in my opinion, is the best! The staff and faculty are so nice and really care about your education and well being! My Freshman year was so much fun and I really learned a lot from my teachers and they helped me so much! Last year, which was my sophomore year, was fun too! My teachers and my assistant Principal, pushed me to do my best and pushed me to thrive and I thank them for that! I was forced to come to SMA but since I’ve been here I’ve learned so much and I feel like I’ve achieved more and feel like I can reach my goals here and now I like it! This school isn’t bad like others say. Yes, you do have to wear uniform here at SMA and to be frank, it isn’t all that bad. You get to show off you achievements which come as medals, ribbons, arcs, ECT. I personally like the uniform but to each his own. So yeah. This school is a good school!

Look it’s not a terrible school tho there is a large amount a favoritism with some groups overall you should probably look at other schools before coming here

I never thought I would attend a military academy due to wearing an army uniform but I have no regrets. I graduated last year and feel that SMA saved my high school experience, prepared me for college, and gave me a good foundation. I gain friends for life. The teachers really cared for students and the new administration is the best I have ever known because they were always available to students and visible on campus. I went to Lakewood Ranch high school before attending SMA and what a difference it made in my life. SMA is by far the best kept secret for high schools in Sarasota/Manatee County. It’s for students that want to learn and be challenged, that’s why we use uniforms and there’s more discipline and structure, but is not for students who don’t know how to behave. So if you want a great school for your kids, SMA is the answer. If your kid don’t respect authority, they won’t last in this school. Teaching respect is the parents job. Thank you mom!

It was an amazing school up until 2yrs ago. Its never been the same. Its hard to reach anyone and now its just like any other high school. The only difference is they where uniforms. Plus they have teachers teaching students that are not certified in some classes, high turn over in students and some staff. I had one son that graduated last year, a junior and sophomore so Ive seen the changes over the past 5 years. I am so sorry to say I would not recommend it at this time. However there are some amazing teachers that are still there and love these students.

Hello, I am a senior doing FULL time dual enrollment attending State college of Florida. When I went into this program with Sarasota military academy, I thought it was a good program but it turns out that that is false. I have not been onto the SMA campus the whole year, and I am not required to abide by the dress code they set due to me only attending State college of Florida. So because of that information that the school shared with me when I first signed the dual enrollment papers, I began to grow a beard, and I have been growing my beard since the first day of my full time dual enrollment school day. Well, here we are, the end of my senior year and I have been denied my yearbook pictures, military ball, and I am not allowed to walk for my graduation, which I already paid $300+ for. This is not right nor is it fair. The school told me that I no longer have to abide by their dress code because I am no longer a student at SMA. I am a FULL TIME SCF STUDENT. And I am being told that in order for me to have any memories for my senior year, that I need to change my whole style and look that I have been coming up with for a year Just for these events. This NEEDS TO BE FIXED. If this is how full time dual enrollment is going to be, I DO NOT recommend signing up for it. I spent my whole year doing extra hard, and long college homework to get ahead for when I graduate my senior year, just to be told that I have to change the way I look, just to have some memories of my last year of high school. This is ridiculous. I am not the only person fighting this battle. I am not alone in this. If this is the way the school is going to continue. I recommend finding a different high school so you can actually have memories of your last year.

My 5 star opinion, is based strictly as a substitute teacher. I taught as a long term substitute for 8 weeks and then worked as a sub in random classes. As a substitute, I was made to feel very comfortable at SMA by the faculty and administrators. I felt appreciated. Anything I needed or any questions I had, someone was there to help. The biggest complaints I heard from students were the dress code regulations. My only complaint has nothing to do with the school but with parents.Parents, Not Teachers, are responsible for how much rest your child gets. They come to school with a few hours of sleep and dont want to do learn.Parents, Not Teachers, are responsible for your children being taught to respect authority figures. When your child talks back rudely to a teacher and they are sent to ISS dont complain about the teacher. Teach Your Child RESPECT. If you as a parent respect the regulations and support the school, your children will too.Teachers can do a much better job if they dont have to do your job.I recommend SMA but only do so if stricter regulations dont bother you or your child. Its a great school!

This was an okay school when I first started going there. Now I hear that they dont do much of anything now. The let people get away with murder now. They no longer follow the uniform standards anymore. They also dont fully participate in the military parades for the Veterans Day Parade, and the Memorial Day Parade. So I would think about choosing a different school if you are looking at this one for your son or daughter. Cause its just a joke now.

This school recently had some growing pains but is back on track (B plus rating) but way beyond that it is a great school in every way. My children went to St. Martha and we thought no experience could have been as great as that however gladly SMA came close. My oldest daughter attended a private high school for 2 years and it was dismal. Limited class options, , school not maintained as well as one could hope and teachers that seemed disengaged. When she went with us to SMA on the tour for my youngest she immediately knew she wanted to transfer to SMA and it was the best decision ever, My youngest just finished the IB program and was accepted at every college she applied.Thank you SMA.

I graduated class of 2014 and through the time I went there it started to decline. When they added the IB program is when it really went down hill. My sister graduated last year and it seemed as if the IB students were the only ones that mattered. If you were just a student not in the IB track you didnt matter regardless of if you were in regular classes, honors, AP, or duel enrollment. I still know people that attend the school and many are glad to be getting out, and even several who just left and went somewhere else because they felt as if they didnt matter. When I went all the staff and faculty treated the students at individuals and invested time into helping them. The teachers worked with the students to help them improve and would spend extra time if needed. Many of the teachers and staff that were there when I was do not appear to be there any more. I am very sad to have to give this rating and review, but with all the issues that are coming up and what I have seen my friends going through I only thought it was fair to let people know. I hope that one day the school can get back to its former glory.

Just graduated feom this school, was a transfer from a big highschool. This school has its ratings from its old principle. The school has lost all of its friendly campus feel and is way over capacity. New teachers are hires that used to be in car sales and other jobs in which have nothing to do with schooling or the subject they are teaching. Also the graduation was absolutely terrible. Just send your kids to Pineview moms and dads, my bestfriend went there and thanks to the guidance counselors there she will be attending Yale in the fall.

The school was alright my freshman and first half of my sophomore year (i think around 2013) but when Kennedy was forced to resign thats when sma started going down fast. almost everyday waste my time with teachers that dont really teach. they are starting to get really strict about the dumbest stuff to. i was threaten a iss because one of the dammits fell off in the hallway when it caught someones backpack. a teacher threaten a iss when i was trying to put the dammit back on my name tag, they said it was disrespectful... graduating this year and im glad im done at sma

This school has been on a steady decline ever sence Headmaster Kennedy left. Before, cadets were treated as respected individuals in a positive learning enviorment. Now cadets are treated poorly and the school is ran likea buisness. Only working about efficency, outward apperance and money. Multipal teachers are not qualified for the positions fhey teach and the general respect aspect for the school is a joke to both teachers and students. I used to love the school and everything about it, now I cant wait to leave. The school needs to take a step back and see whats going wrong and fix it. I would not recomend this school to anyone until these issues are resolved.
