The staff at Newgate is extremely patient and nurturing. I am exceptionally grateful for their attention to detail to ensure each child has the opportunity to reach their optimal potential. I love the home style setting and their interest in bringing a global perspective to the area.

After Tayna took control of the school everything has taken a turn for the worse. I will update this if I hear things have gotten better.

I cannot express enough how much it means to me that everyone at New Gate willing to do anything and everything to help my daughter. If anything positive has come from this experience, it’s how much the New Gate family is concerned about each student and how they will go above and beyond to assist not only my daughter but me. It is valued and appreciated more than any of you realize.

I stopped in for one of their open house tours that they have posted on their banner out in front of the school to see about enrolling my three children into the school. I was first met politely by the woman at the front desk and was told that someone would be right with me for the tour. In the meantime I am trying to manage a 3 year old, 5 year old, and 7 year old. I was kept waiting, and when finally some gentleman came to greet me, he invited me over to another building across the parking lot. He then started to explain to me about the Montessori Process and the diverse nature of the school. Just because I am a proud black woman with 3 beautiful children, doesnt mean that the first thing that comes out of your mouth is diversity. I wanted to see the school grounds, I wanted to learn about the education, and I wanted to understand how this school could help me and my family; not a dissertation about its diversity. I have the internet, I also have a doctorate in Psychology from a very reputable college, and this person was judging without even listening to me for 30 seconds, thinking the first thing I wanted to know about was diversity. It has pained me to write this review and explain what happened to myself and my family. Next time a person comes to your school for an open house, maybe it would be better to graciously show them the school, talk about the education, and let them know how the school can help my children. I and my family didnt need a civil rights lesson, we needed a school. We have since relocated out of the area due to my husbands position, but if I were still in the area I would strongly not recommend this school. We felt more comfortable at another local private school.

This school is exceptional! The highest quality learning out there, All the kids go on to great things. Love the community! Everyone is welcoming and great. Making friends is easy! School for almost everyone.

I hold this place near and dear to me since I went to this specific campus for 3 out of my 4 years here. Very warm and inviting environment and teachers to reflect that. As a student, the teachers have shown much knowledge in their given fields.Since this is the Primary campus (K-6th Gr), I do have to say that Maria, one of the teachers, has an enormous knowledge on child psychology. She also helps children on the Autism Spectrum which definitely notable. I think this place is great for children on the spectrum.

I have had such an amazing experience with This School and they work so hard to take care of our children, and teach them to be ready for the REAL world with intelligence and grace! Do not buy into what they tell you they are about and what they teach your child. Our child was so far behind after attending this school. We switched schools and couldnt be happier. There response is the Montessori isnt for everyone, or we let your children learn at their own pace, or some other excuse; when you would like your child to learn the denominations of money, hold a pencil, sit at a desk once and a while to learn, or even learn about how many states there are in the USA ! They even got rid of Coach Dave. He was fantastic. What a shame !! There are many better private school choices in Sarasota, your childs precious little mind is at stake.

This is a wonderful small school with an international reputation and 36 years of success. Its students and graduates are its best spokeswomen and spokesmen. I notice that someone has been creating fake accounts to write negative reviews. How ironic that anyone would take the time. Sending a child to any private school is a sacrifice. Sending a child to a Montessori school takes courage. I know. Years ago I made that choice, and have never regretted it. I also remember having to defend my decision to my family and friends. I have so often heard the teachers and administrators at NewGate patiently urge parents to take the time to really consider how different this approach is to most other schools. It is a very special gift to give a child, but it can never be right for every family. That is what is so wonderful: in our country; we have choices.

This is by Far the best School !!! Such loving and caring Staff!! And upper Headmasters and faculty have shown such exemplary kindness and attention to every detail or questions I have ever had!!! Bravo!!! Montessori truly teaches in the best manner! As A Private School, I could not ask for more, all the children are in such an amazing environment!!!!

Our children just completed their second year at New Gate. We have had an amazing experience at New Gate from the administrative assistant all the way up to the head of school and with everyone in between. New Gate fosters an environment of inclusiveness which we value greatly. Our children are not only being challenged academically, but they are also learning how to become well rounded, kind, considerate and thoughtful human beings. As a parent, I dont think there is much else that we could ask for for our children.

Best learning environment for my daughter. The teachers are amazing, full of wisdom and love. Newgate Montessori instills the much needed human values such as love, caring, compassion in kids along with a holistic education model.

My family is very thankful to be a part of the Newgate community. My children have flourished in this nurturing environment, and I am seeing them benefit from an incredible education. While no school is perfect, I greatly appreciate the teachers and administration being so open to communication and addressing my children’s individual needs with such care and empathy. Both campuses are beautiful! The teachers are lovely and you can tell they really care about your children. Wonderful and humble school.

All 3 of my grandchildren attend New Gate. The oldest will staring his 10th year in August. I cant imagine them going anywhere else. I love the mentoring of the older students to the younger ones. The students are taught how to be respectful, not only to adults but to each other. Something our public schools fail to do.I only wish I had found the Montessori method of teaching when my children were in school.

My kids have attended this school for the past 3 years in both the lower and upper elementary programs. I couldnt say enough good things about the school! New Gate has helped challenge them, build confidence and develop a love of learning in my children that will last a lifetime. And best of all, they both LOVE going to school!

My child was in the local schools, and every year I saw him become more disengaged. There are so many good people teaching in the public schools but the system expects students to fit into one of a handful of boxes. I have a quirky gifted kid for whom it just did not work well. We went looking for something different and found it at NewGate. Thinking deeply and collaboration are the norm, not cramming for the next quiz. He felt at home. NewGate has great teachers, interesting students, and is a school that is just right.

Looking back this was one of our best decisions we have ever made ...

NewGate School offers a high-quality Montessori education for toddler through 12th-grade students. Their highly regarded International Baccalaureate Program, implemented at the secondary level, provides students with exceptional preparation as they pursue university and career opportunities.

I am a 2018 graduate of NewGate, now attending Georgia Tech and studying electrical engineering. Furthermore, I attended NewGate from 18 months of age- through to graduating high school minus a three year gap in elementary school. That makes 14 years at NewGate for me. I can confidently say that NewGate helped me tremendously to become the person that I am today. NewGate teaches academics, independent thinking, kindness, and most of all has instilled a love of learning in me that will never go away. When I was in the toddler classroom I loved playing with the lock board (basically a wooden board with handles and many locks) and the label maker. As I grew older, I became interested in how things work and was lucky to have many teachers at NG who fostered that interest. In middle and high school I was afforded the opportunity to manage the IT infrastructure, setting up the wireless networks and working on various other technical projects at NG. I was able to choose my interests and explore them more fully in the International Baccalaureate program (high school) where I investigated Kombucha fermentation for my IB Biology internal assessment and shoreline erosion and salinity of barrier islands in IB Geography. At NewGate you feel connected with a community both of your peers and also of your teachers and administrators. NewGates exceptional drama program is also noteworthy- in which I participated in more plays during middle and high school than I can honestly keep track of (probably about 8). In elementary school and middle school you also participate in a yearly opera, which is an exciting experience for any young child as this is when I first fully realized how much can be accomplished when one works in a large group towards a common goal.In highschool I learned how to plan large scale trips, working with other students and faculty to plan yearly research trips to Washington DC, the Dominican Republic, Denver, Appalachia, New York City, and more. I gained confidence speaking to representatives from airlines, bus companies, and more while also learning how to plan logistics of travel for large groups. Each trip experience helped to create the tight-knit community feeling so unique to NewGate while also fostering an openness to new experience.I havent really talked about academic rigor in a traditional test scores sense on purpose. Getting my IB diploma and good SAT scores is important to NewGate and the teachers will help to push you to reach your academic goals- that much is for sure- but its not the end goal at NewGate. The end goal there is much more. Its about helping you to become a good person, a person capable of learning well beyond university, and a person who is unique and true to yourself.Additionally, NewGates academics (especially the rigor of the IB program) prepared me well to take on the STEM class heavy electrical engineering curriculum. As a student now at a University many orders of magnitude larger than NewGate and surrounded by other students from various educational backgrounds, I often reflect on my experience at NewGate and remind myself how lucky I was to have had the opportunity to have such a unique and fulfilling education there.As someone who has spent more of their life at NewGate than away from it- I invite you to reach out to me if you have any questions about any aspect of my experience or about what the school has to offer. I first learned of NewGate in line at the post office. A young girl around 7 was in front of me in line, I was so impressed with her confidence and poise that I said as much to her mother, who went on to attribute these qualities to her Montessori education. So when it came time to find childcare for our 18 month old, we enrolled him at NewGate—that was 13 years ago and we are still there. Our son has grown into a confident, kind, solid young man because of the education he receives there—an education in the formal sense, and also an education in what it means to be a decent citizen on this planet. He amazes me everyday. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and NewGate has been that village for me. Whether celebrating triumphs or picking us up in times of defeat, NewGate is always there for us. It is our family. In fact, I think even the negative reviews here simply underscore the deep love and bond that families form with the school. After all, nothing hurts worse than a rift with family. What I see in these harsh words are just wounds of a broken heart, and I hope someday those wounds will heal. Perhaps, if all of us parents had gone to Montessori school, we would be better equipped to express our thoughts and emotions in face-to-face conversation.

I have been at NewGate School, since I was four years old! I am now a senior in Highschool at NewGate, and I have made so many memories with so many wonderful people! NewGate is a school full of opportunities and dreams. This school is like a family, and they accept you with open arms. I am so proud to be a Montessori student and NewGate School.

My name is Caroline. I am sixteen years old and I am entering my fourth year at NewGate Montessori IB School. I began attending NewGate in eighth grade and have discovered the amazing atmosphere that is the definition of montessori learning. By being encouraged to think for myself, I have become more responsible, and have found a passion for each task put before me. The teacher/student relationships also really shows some of the defining features of the school. Each teacher has a love for teaching and never treats us like we are children. They give us the opportunities and skills to make the right choices, which in my opinion is way more important than how many facts you can jam into a childs head. I never have felt over pressured or undermined at NewGate. I feel worthy, and set to an expectation that I can actually achieve. At NewGate, you are not compared to each other but recognized by your own individual abilities. Everyone is encouraged to show courtesy, grace, respect, and to have an open mind. That is why I love NewGate.

FIVE STARS! NewGate Montessori IB School has been a wonderful experience for my two teenagers, ages 16 and 17, over the last three years of attendance. We were new to Montessori education and transferred from the local public school system. We found the transition easy with welcoming staff and students, a challenging curriculum with opportunities for the children to grow both academically and personally. We love that the kids are taught time management, are encouraged to work in groups to problem solve, and are given the responsibility to care for their environment. They are active participants in planning their future and as an upcoming junior and senior, have begun their ambitious pursuit of the IB diploma. When asked by other parents considering an alternative to public school, I tell them that one of the the things my husband and I love most about NewGate is that our teenagers are being taught to be responsible adults and that they truly go to school happy and come home happy. One of my favorite parts of the secondary curriculum is the spring internships, where the children are required to spend a week at a business or with a mentor exploring different careers of interest. They then present their experience to classmates, parents and teachers and have a first hand idea as to whether or not this would or would not be a good career choice for them. This is just one of the many unique opportunities afforded to NewGate middle and high school students. With its strong sense of community and ever present support from teachers and staff NewGate has been and continues to be a huge blessing to our family.

Our family left what was supposedly the best private school in Sarasota...ODA. Tim welcomed us wholeheartedly and with out judgements. Our daughter has been there for 7 years and we cant exclaim enough the maturity-spiritualy and mentally that our daughter has developed. Peace loving and kindness along with academics rule at NewGate. If your bar is perfection- no school can ever meet it. The community and sense of family is prevalent and we couldnt be more happier to have moved to NewGate. We have made some of the best friends of our lives here.I know for a fact that these one star reviews are fake....fact.

Our children have attended NewGate for ten years and continue to amaze us everyday with their kindness, global awareness and incredible wealth of knowledge in diverse subjects. Our boys enjoy learning and are comfortable with who they are (which can be challenging during adolescent years). Both my husband and I attended traditional schools and we wish we had been fortunate to attend a school like NewGate. We could not imagine a better school for our children than NewGate. We tried other private schools in the area during preschool years and found that the faculty/heads at the other schools were not responsive to our concerns and did not seem to understand child development. At NewGate we have been amazed at how accessible teachers, staff and the head of school have been and how each child is valued, respected and understood. The faculty have always been available to answer any questions or respond to any concerns we have had over the years. NewGate has been a transparent school and we have found that the more we get involved as a family the more we see the value the school offers for our childrens growth as well as our personal familys growth. Each year during re-enrollment time we actively evaluate whether NewGate is the right school for our children and family. For ten years the answer has been yes and we are optimistic our children will receive their high school IB diplomas from NewGate.
