They are kind to the environment and the world around them. The quarters may be tight, but the closeness seems to play a big role in developing relationships with peers, teachers, and families. The focus at Tilden is the kids and it is truly evident when you consider a Tilden graduate. My child is now out in front at her public middle school, both academically and maturity-wise, thanks to the incredible nurturing by Whitney and team.

We LOVE Tilden school! Our son is thriving there after spending the previous year in survival mode at a public elementary. They figured him out quickly and are helping him to thrive in ways that are well beyond our highest expectations. Tilden is truly a gem of a school. It’s founder Whitney T and dedicated teachers have created a nurturing learning environment that emphasizes kindness and respect. We initially chose Tilden for its small class sizes and excellent reputation. We continue to be impressed with its creative curriculum, individualized attention and caring teachers. Our daughter has excelled academically, as well as gained self confidence and a love of learning - everything we had wanted in an elementary school.

If you have the opportunity to send your child to Tilden, take it. Tilden is an absolute gift. My two children have both attended and have come away with a pure joy and love of learning. They have thrived in every way as a result of the safe environment, the nurturing and encouraging staff and the challenging, individualized curriculum. Tilden makes learning fun. The only thing youll struggle with is how to find a middle and high school that are as excellent.

Tilden School has changed the trajectory of our daughter’s academic experience dramatically in a very short amount of time. Her growth in reading has been amazing but it is her growth in confidence that has been priceless. Whitney takes it upon herself personally to ensure that each child in the school truly has an individual education plan, catered exactly to their own development. All of the teachers are warm, kind, and committed to excellence. It feels amazing to know that our daughter is safe, learning, and appreciated.

My son has thrived at Tilden. I have never met anyone so dedicated to children as Whitney. She is kind, positive, funny, encouraging and really believes in the kids and their learning. My daughter attended 6 years at Tilden and loved her daily life there. She was always excited to go to school; made great friends and had a great education. I found myself wishing I had gone to Tilden. The work she brought home never ceased to amaze me - art, math, writing skills, reading, science - I could tell the lessons were well thought out and engaging. Personally I really enjoyed meeting the other parents and collaborating on kid events. Some of us still get together and are now life long friends. I truly feel lucky We found Tilden.

Out of all the schools my seven children have attended, Tilden is singular in their compassion and dedication. I feel as if all of the teachers know my child personally - and are all committed to ensuring he grows into a caring, kind, and thoughtful young man. They teach work ethic, accountability, and self-ownership in a remarkable and consistent way. Whitney and her team are the absolute best teachers and care-takers for young people that I have ever come across - and I am incredibly grateful that my son has been able to learn from them.

Our experience at Tilden has been only positive. From Whitney, to the teachers, to the aides, to the parent volunteers, everyone creates an environment in which teaching our children is the primary shared goal—not only academically, but to be kind and helpful members of a larger community. Our child has loved the school from the very first day, and it is in large part because Whitney and all the teachers make Tilden a place where she has a wonderful time learning and playing, and where she feels respected as an individual. My shy preschooler blossomed as a Kindergartener at Tilden and is thriving in the 1st grade. The community at this tiny school is incredible and you could not find a better experience for the money-- or for a heck of a lot more money. Teachers are kind and wonderful, classes are small, FULL TIME teacher aides... come visit if you have questions. Cant wait to send our younger kiddo when she is old enough.Im also proud to be able to volunteer in the K and 1 rooms weekly and can vouch for the positive attitude and enthusiasm of the teachers and staff that I see every time I am there.

Tilden is a warm and caring environment- all the teachers are very friendly and helpful. Both of my kids have loved attending Tilden and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a wonderful school. The parent support is amazing and fun to be involved in. Tilden is a warm and nurturing learning environment. I have navigated the Seattle Public School system and can tell you with 100% certainty that the learning environment and curriculum that Tilden offers cannot be matched. The work that my child is producing at Tilden is levels above anything that came home from public school and we have never regretted our decision to give our child the gift of a small class.

Tilden School has given my children a strong academic and social/emotion foundation to be successful students and conscientious citizens of the world. We could not be happier with the small class sizes and caring, dedicated teachers and staff. Music and art are particular strengths! For our child the Tilden School has been a great fit. We tried the local public school and visited a bunch of independent schools — Tilden had the best student-teacher ratio and the hands—on teaching style has really helped him to thrive as a scholar.

Tilden is an idyllic learning environment for elementary aged students. The teaching staff and curriculum is of high quality with an emphasis on individualized learning. The combination of high expectations and a nurturing culture produces graduates who will succeed as they continue on their educational journey.

Tilden has been a wonderful place where my children have cultivated a love of learning. Their carefully selected socio-emotional curriculum, balanced with a focus on rigorous academics, has been a blessing. I can’t say enough about all the teachers and principal. They go above and beyond on a daily basis and are simply amazing.

Our son, now 11, started Tilden in kindergarten and graduated from 5th grade with an excellent level of education, significantly above the average Seattle student. This is even more remarkable as during his time at Tilden he was diagnosed with a learning disability. Tilden, being a private school, are not obliged to adjust their teaching program for learning disabilities, but they worked closely with us and even more so with our son to prepare him for middle-school. As parents I cannot lavish enough praise on the Tilden teachers and staff, they embody Whitneys vision for the school. Whitney is an amazing warm principal who is laser focused on the development of emotionally balanced, community focused, intelligent and wise kids who ooze empathy for each other.

Our third grade daughter loves to go to school everyday and is inspired by the curriculum, the high standards and expectations set by all the educators. We chose Tilden for many reasons, but one that stood out when we met Whitney Tjerandsen was her strong value of kindness and respect for everyone. It is a very special community and we hope that our daughter will find this in her next school when she graduates.

The individualized attention my son has received at Tilden has been transformative in the most positive way. The entire staff is invested in the students and deeply cares about giving them the best education as well as giving them the tools to became well rounded, successful human beings. Tilden has completely changed our son’s school experience. After a very difficult 1st grade at public school, academically and emotionally, we were afraid his school life would be an ongoing struggle. Luckily, we got a spot at Tilden and now he’s not only caught up with grade level, but really loves going to school. My child has attended this school for now the 2nd year. It is a warm, loving environment with a fantastic, solid education. There are no favorites-all children are treated equally. The principal and teachers genuinely love to teach and guide. After experience with other unnamed schools, I refer to Tilden as paradise for a young childs education.

We enrolled our son because of the low student-teacher ratio, and the complexity and quality of learning. With the sheer size of public school classrooms I was worried about my son falling through the cracks. There are no cracks at Tilden. There are so many thoughful teachers, staff and volunteers that all students thrive because of the individualized learning environment. Whitney and the entire staff have a true calling to foster a love of learning. Also, the relatively new aftercare program is a godsend for parents. Not only is it reasonable priced, but my son loves it. An education at Tilden is the best decision we’ve made for our son and we’re looking forward to our daughter attending next year.😊

Tilden has provided our kids (now 10 and 12) a superb education in a caring environment where they have gained confidence and truly excelled. It has truly been the perfect fit for us.
