Very good martial arts school. The instructors not only know martial arts at a high degree, but are able to teach their knowledge to younger students. Very well kept studio with a very welcoming atmosphere to promote learning. Lee was very helpful and really knew his stuff! Great place, I can’t wait to tell all my friends about it!

I’ve been involved in martial arts in one way or another for the last 30 years. As soon as my sons were old enough I enrolled them at Southlake Martial Arts. We love this place! The instruction is second to none and the place is always clean. Not only does Mr. Requena teach the physical aspects of martial arts but he also hold students accountable for their behavior outside of class. Each month there is a new value students must display in order to achieve their stripe for example honesty and self discipline. SLMA is a ATA accredited school. Class are fun, high energy, and interesting. Instructors challenge students without causing little ones anxiety. The pricing is a value considering the quality of instruction.

Has anybody else been threatened to be put into collections by this owner/organization? Due to Covid-19 our family incurred financial hardship. We called and emailed to discuss this hardship. They never called back nor did they email back. Furthermore, even though our State of Indiana was in shutdown for close to two (2) months due to Covid-19, I presume given the requested payment that our 4 year-old childs membership was still charged for those months. Additionally, our family also called to discuss our health concerns for our 4 year-old child due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Again, to no avail and to no call back. Due to this financial hardship, as well as the health concerns for the 4 year-old child due to the Covid-19 pandemic (and their lack of response), there was no choice but to stop paying.Recently my wife received a letter from a law firm threatening collections as well as requesting an accelerated payment of approximately 21 months or so worth of membership dues (the amount of $$ requested to be paid is a few thousand dollars). In short, an accelerated payment means that they are expecting an upfront prepayment for the remainder of the amount that would have been due up until November 2021. They are essentially expecting the total remaining amount that would have been due, to be paid upfront without the need to first provide their services/lessons. It is completely insane and unfathomable. They seem to forget, they are not lending money. They are providing a service, and they are not providing or following the contractual agreement with their clients by charging clients when their business is closed, offering online karate which is not what was agreed to, or by completely changing their schedule(s) so people cant attend. Anyway to continue, she personally received this letter because she personally signed him up and personally signed the contract (I was not present, and believe me if I was present this contract WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SIGNED). She to this day felt as if she was manipulated into signing him up, however this is a story for another day. A day of experience turned into a 2-year predatory commitment. That being said, the law firm letter that she received is a complete travesty given the fact that this particular memberships outstanding balance isnt anything even CLOSE to the amount of money requested to be paid immediately by this organization (again, the amount requested via accelerated payment is a FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS). The membership sign-up occurred in November 2019, and the first few months of payments were made. The accelerated amount requested to be paid immediately isnt even CLOSE to the amount owed for our 4 year-old childs membership. This place is a complete disappointment. Never in a million years did I think I would experience such a lack of caring by an organization. Never in a million years would I think “collections” threats and completely insane “accelerated” payments would be bestowed upon those trying to protect their children during an unprecedented life threatening pandemic. This is a high contact sport in which groups of kids are congregating in very close proximity. And never in a million years would I think threats of “collections” and “accelerated” payments would be bestowed upon those in your community during times like these in which some families are having financial difficulties due to an unprecedented life threatening pandemic. I understand their schedule has changed. As of now, they seem to be closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and only open from 4-8pm Monday-Thursday. I understand money is probably extremely tight for them. However, given this life threatening pandemic we are all in the same boat. That is why they should be working together with their clients instead of trying to destroy them by requesting and threatening collections with insane accelerated payments consisting of a balance that is NOT EVEN CURRENTLY OWED.. However, they dont. Call back so we can talk. Thanks.

Professional sales man (AKA the owner) will pressure you into signing a 1 to 3 year plus contact for a 5 year old. Don’t go to the free trial unless you’re willing to spend 175 a month and sign at least a year contract for a small child. He will also state on the phone he doesn’t know the cost because your child could wulaify for different levels etc. it’s a lie to get you in he door. He does know. Goes by age. Pretty basic. If it wasn’t the price making people run for the hills. It will be the contract. Agreeing to such a long term for a child is completely insane.

Outstanding inovative martial arts experience. I have been a member for a little over four years and have lost weight, increased dramatically my flexibility, and significantly improved my stamina. Southlake Martial Arts combines several disciplines and choreographs what are normally dull, repetitive routines to music to make them fresh and exciting. I highly recommend Southlake Martial Arts to anyone who is looking for a fun and challenging health-enhancing experience.

When we first enrolled our 2 sons it was small personal classes or 5-10 kids most days with 3 instructors and a good atmosphere. We opted for the 2 yr contract as our boys seemed to really enjoy it. The schedule changed multiple (5+) times over this 2 year period which was, to say the least, frustrating. We stuck with it and around the 2 yr mark, after they had joined the ATA and seemed to be on a stable schedule, I myself signed up. Within 2 months the schedule changed again but I was told that I could keep bringing my youngest to the previous time slot. The very first class in the old time slot I came to was delayed because of a meeting with a new customer. Class was started late and taught by the younger instructor which would be fine if he had a heads up which he did not and he then had to leave early because his ride had been waiting on him since he was already supposed to leave however 1 NEW customer was more important than his and my schedule. Two days later we had this class again and again it was started late because the instructor that is supposed to teach it was not ready for whatever reason and the younger one got thrown to the wolves again. For another few months it continued like this. Always a late start and most of the time started by the younger instructor who was not instructed by owner or other senior instructors as to what the curriculum was that week. I was then offered a lower price if I would stop coming to the class at the old time (which they told me I could do) and their main point was that my son had no partners (which wouldnt have happened had they not removed that time from the schedule). I was told yes or no to this proposal was fine. I rejected the offer as the other time slot would have put a time gap between my 2 sons classes. The next week in the middle of the class the phone rings, my sons instructor answers, which is fine, but then proceeded to walk off the floor and downstairs saying so she is 7 years old and had she done martial arts before? Another new customer takes priority over existing. She said nothing to me or my son before leaving to the lower level and sent up the younger instructor who took over once again without warning. This younger instructor was never at fault and I do not blame him for the lack of professionalism we experienced the last 5 or 6 months. Today, a few hours before class, a new schedule was posted on Facebook with a caption reading ....starts today I never received notice of this, tho irrelevant to me, there very well may have been notice I missed. I had finally had enough as I now see that the way the times were changed, my sons off schedule class would no longer be possible as 2 classes would be already happening at that time and there are only 2 class areas. I went in tonight and cancelled. The owner was informed I was cancelling and decided not to have his other 2 instructors take over and talk to me. He instead told her to say thanks for him. Lastly I would like to note that submitting a 5 star review was pushed and rewarded with discounts on merchandise by the owner which is likely why there is a lack of variety in reviews here. Its a shame because my sons very much enjoyed the activity however I can find another place that will be more like this was before the new customer seemed to be all that mattered even tho their seating area, of tables with TWO chairs, is far past its limits for the current student body. Dont worry, those of you interested in joining though, they keep a table and FOUR chairs reserved for meeting with, YOU GUESSED IT, NEW CUSTOMERS!

In one months time my 10 year old has found a passion! He absolutely is in love with his taekwondo school Southlake Martial Arts! I find him actually motivated at home to get up and practice with out me asking. He is teaching his little sister the moves. Take turns practicing with his nunchucks and breaking boards, card stock paper. At the end of the month he had his first belt ceremony. As a member of the leadership program they preformed the CU form first. They demonstrated in front of a packed house what they work on in class. One point of the night he was asked to demonstrate his front kicks alone to show his consistency and voice each time (11 kicks).I recommend this school hands down. They have by far exceeded my expectations. Even offer parents free kickboxing class! Free party after belt ceremony week for the kids, so parents can have a kid free date night! This is huge for my husband and I. I am super frugal person and was happy my son could try it a few clas before we signed him up. The instructors are fabulous, they are helping build character, build confidence, structure, respect dor all things and building leaders. We travel through three counties to attend this school. It is that amazing!
