Both my kids went here, and there were both positives and negatives I encountered. For the most part, it was positive, at first, but their success was also different based on their individual teachers. Id hear stories about one 1st grade teacher that my kids thankfully didnt have, that would tip over a childs desk and dump their belongings onto the floor if their desk was messy. I found it inexcusably cruel, and floundered on why that type of behavior was allowed, in humiliating kids in front of their classmates. In the 2nd grade I worried about my son, and I later discovered there were issues about the teacher that he wasnt coming to me about. It seemed like he was regressing, would be withdrawn in class, the teacher claiming he was a daydreamer and didnt apply himself. The teacher would tear up a childs paper in front of the class or throw it into the garbage for various reasons, like no name on the paper, or cheating. This was brought up by another parent, and I never realized my son was one of those students. He was embarrassed to even say anything to me about it. The next year, with a different teacher, he excelled, and we never ran into problems like that again. As for LGBT issues, and I can say as a parent that identifies as bi, I was treated inconsiderately, not by all staff, but some, even with the school board, often with rude or demeaning comments and innuendos. It existed in the community, at large. It was brutally hurtful, exceptionally so, as Id volunteered extensively as a parent myself, and contributed so much time to the school. It was a horrible experience, and I dropped out of volunteering after that. This came out of voyeurism in my home, from unconstitutional surveillance, which was devastating enough; it would be for anyone. I worry about what example it sets for students, and I wouldnt describe it as a respectful or safe environment for anyone that identifies as LGBT, heck, even for women in general, although I would encompass district wide attitudes and not just a single school. I was profoundly shocked by the behavior of an entire community. I wouldnt say in all people, but it was prolific and rampant enough. I dont believe Id ever encountered more dishonesty in all my life, and also a lack of empathy or compassion, even the extensive indifference, and that they all seemed to think this was good to do someone. Lets switch places and tell me how good it is.

When I attended this school Ive had one of the worst experiences a student in any school can have the teachers here were abusive. I would not recommend any family to go to this school. From my experience this is the worst school in Dupage county.
