Amanda and I can agree that our decision to get dance lessons with Vlad was probably the best decision we made during planning for our wedding reception!Vlad was able to walk us through from not even having our song picked at our first lesson with the experience level of “I can do jumping jacks…” to becoming graceful, solid dance partners with a solid dance on the final day.Vlad was very knowledgeable and capable to make this transformation possible. We are beyond thankful for his commitment and expertise. We are going into the reception with confidence and grace now.

I have been at Firebeat Ballroom Studios for over 4 years and Im still just as in love with this studio as the day I walked in for the first time. Ching and Andre are truly the heart and soul of the studio. They always teach each lesson with so much excitement and they are devoted to each students progress. The front desk staff is always friendly and welcoming. I take weekly lessons with Brad. He makes learning fun and always knows how to inspire his students. His passion for dance shines through in each lesson he teaches. If youre looking for a studio that treats you like family then this is the studio for you. They really care about your journey and they encourage and support you every step of the way. Whether you are looking to learn a wedding dance that you will treasure forever or are looking to take a social group class or would like to be part of a ballroom competitive team I guarantee you will find what you are looking at Firebeat Ballroom Studios.

Whether you’re looking for a social dance experience or working toward a serious dance goal, this is a great place. Look around the studio and you see extremely talented dancers as well as beginners and everything in-between. The teaching is very focused and organized. They plan and do their homework to give you the best value for your lesson time. The studio is full service. On top of the typical lessons, classes, and master coaching, they offer many amenities such as ballroom dress rentals and dancewear, even spray tan! The ballroom is very spacious with a sprung floor (easy on the knees) and ample mirrors so you can check your posture. ;-) Yet the prices are very competitive with other studios and franchises. Overall, this is a very well run business with lots of dance inspiration. We hope to continue dancing here for a long time.

Ive been coming to this studio for 11 months now (since Dec 2018). However, it feels that I have been here way longer. Initially what brought me to the studio was the instructors prolific dance experience, and the large and well-maintained studio rooms. I had taken a few Latin classes before I came here and was looking for a studio that provided systematic education on Latin dance. I remember the first group class (Latin Drills) I took with Ching totally blew my mind. There was so much stuff I learned from that one class than all the previous classes combined. So I stayed and started coming to the studio more often, then started taking private lessons with Andre in January this year. I had doubts about taking private lessons at the beginning because I wasnt sure if I wanted to compete. However, looking back to the dance videos I recorded a year ago Im so grateful for what he has taught me and the heart and soul he has put into each lesson. Ive done 3 mock comps so far and each time I saw some improvements. I dont think Id be able to see results that fast if I didnt take these lessons that were customized for my growth.I also have to mention the atmosphere in this studio. The other staff members and instructors (big shout out to Brad) are so welcoming and friendly. The fellow students are all really nice and humble. I felt welcomed from day 1 and have made some good friends here with whom I share the same interests and passion in dancing.Id recommend Firebeat to anyone I know whos interested in ballroom dancing.

I began my journey at Firebeat Ballroom Studios in April of 2016 and have been going multiple times a week ever since. Joining this studio, has helped me find so much more love and appreciation for this incredible art form and for those who dance it. The staff at Firebeat, have created such a warm, friendly, and professional environment, where people can share their love for dance, together. There is endless opportunities for one dancing here - drop in social classes, alternating 6-week series courses, private lessons (which you do not need a partner for), and so much more! The instructors are very informative and are extremely patient and supportive. They strive to make sure their students are obtaining the best possible experience. One of the most memorable parts of my experience here thus far, is the community. The students here, regardless of what level they stand, are so encouraging and caring of their fellow students. Overall, I truly have found a great blessing in Firebeat, their staff, and their students. Do yourself a favor, try something new and come on down to try a class, youll be so glad you did. Happy Dancing!

My husband and I came to Firebeat 15 months ago. We did our research, shopped around, and clearly made the right choice. We cant say enough about this studio and everyone who is a part of it. The hospitality starts with the owners, Andre and Ching, and extends to the entire staff. We have taken several lessons with Brad and he has found a way to ignite our passion for dancing. He is patient with his students and caters to all levels. Whether it is a group class or a private lesson, there is something for everyone. It is a place to make new friends (the other students are all amazingly friendly), try something new, and feel like you are part of a community. We are happy to have met our Firebeat family. They have brought so much joy to our lives.

Ive been dancing for ~1.5 years at Firebeat. My prior dancing experience is zero so my perspective is that of a complete beginner.Firebeat matches what Im looking for: focus on solid techniques and different dance styles including social dancing. The instructors have a lot of experience, won several titles/competitions, and are very receptive to questions. The studio is focused on training dancers to compete and bring home the gold. Their students dedication and the schedule of classes reflect that.Initially I only wanted to learn just enough to dance at formal and social occasions. The instructors understood my intent and tailored my curriculum to that desire so that we achieve it in the shortest time possible.Roughly a few months in, I had a change of heart. I went from taking group classes and a few private lessons here and there to fully immersing myself in American Rhythm dances. This is due to the realization that most people do not know how to dance. Their dancing is just doing their own thing. Social dancing gets boring real fast when you can only use 5 or so moves on beginners! People are easily impressed with just being twirled and spun around a lot at a fast pace. The instructors also confirmed this issue: they cant go all out with a beginner. Their goal with a beginner as a dance partner is to have both parties enjoy the dance. My suggestion to people reading this review is to not stand still and ask yourself where you want to be a year from now. My instructor Ching told me it would take 3+ years to become the best dancer at any social club vs 7+ years to become a competitive dancer at the highest level. Its been 1.5 years, and I successfully completed my first mock competition at Firebeat. Im very grateful to have met such great instructors and students on my dancing journey.

My future husband and I have been taking dance lessons for our June wedding for the past couple of months with Brad. I had childhood experience with dance lessons and my fiance had none whatsoever. Regardless, we are having a great time learning our wedding dance together and never feel awkward at Firebeat - even when the more professional dance students and whisking around the studio. In fact, we recently stayed for a Sampler class to learn other styles of dance and we are thinking abut continuing with lessons even after our wedding because we are having so much fun! It is a beautiful studio with fantastic style, the owners and instructors are terrific and the new coffee / tea / smoothie / lunch bar is great too! The Mango Tango smoothie is amazing! We ended up taking lessons for about 4 months and performed in their fall showcase. It was so much fun!The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The dance studio is among the most gorgeous and spacious that I have ever seen. I have been dancing for nearly 30 years (not ballroom, but other styles)....so I have seen a lot of spaces. I was so impressed. The space was very clean and neat. They also have a parking lot which is not always something you find.Easy to find, well signed to get there...oh there is a cafe in the lobby...how cool is that? I will definitely grab a beverage or a snack some night before a lesson. Our instructor, Brad, was nice and funny. Made us feel comfortable and worked in our comfort zone. My competition results improved as well! All the instructors are supportive and compassionate, and they want their students to succeed. Whether it’s preparing for competition, wedding dances, or just becoming comfortable with dancing in general, all the instructors are invested and supportive of their student’s dance dreams.Since I started, Firebeat is also place where I always feel welcome. I have had the pleasure of watching this studio grow from its very beginning. It is more than just its excellent professionals, their unmatched skills as competitors and teachers. It is more than the students and people who help make Firebeat a real community of people who love dancing. Its more than just having Wally the Studio Cat contribute his part (generally lap-sitting) to the charm of an intimate studio [Update, May 2103: We miss Wally! The rest, still all true].The people whove created Firebeat have a passion for what they have built and the community they have nurtured there. Its not just a business for them. You can sense how much they care about making it a great place to learn and grow as dancers. You can tell that each day, night after night. Firebeat is simply of the finest studios Ive had the pleasure of being a part of.

My husband and I just finished taking private lessons at Firebeat to learn our first dance for our wedding. We have had a terrific experience. All of the staff at Firebeat are friendly, helpful, and passionate about dance. They are talented dancers in their own rights, but when you walk in the door, it feels like a welcoming community for newcomers. The teaching is high quality, the studio space is gorgeous, and they even have a cafe that is open most of the day -- but the atmosphere is completely supportive and unpretentious. My husband and I had no ballroom dance experience at all, and neither of us thinks of ourselves as especially coordinated! But we thoroughly enjoyed each of our lessons, and we learned a lot. The time spent at Firebeat was one of the most fun parts of our wedding prep, and we had a wonderful time dancing our first dance at the wedding. Now were planning to return to Firebeat again soon to check out the group dance and fitness classes!

If you are looking for an establishment that brings to life the phrase: live, laugh, love; you have no further to go than Firebeat Dancesport. The studio offers the perfect combination of taking your art seriously but not yourself too seriously.I walked into Firebeat without knowing anything about Latin ballroom at all. I didnt know what Rumba meant, and that it was considered to be one of the five Latin dances that included Jive. All I knew, was that I loved to dance. Firebeat more than catered to my love for dance and has taken me from an absolute novice to winning first place in competitions I perform at!Andre and Tatiana are the Master dance instructors at the studio - I walked into a group lesson that Andre was teaching and my first take-away was: ok - this studio takes teaching seriously, and they know what elegance means! Its been over a year now and I have not missed one weekly private lesson with Andre.Andre makes sure that he caters to your unique lifestyle (I travel Mon-Fri for work), and your unique personality. He teaches and guides in a way that he believes will be most impactful for you. His analogies are close to poetry!I also now take lessons with another instructor at Firebeat - Brad Lowe. Brad is the perfect complement to further improve my dancing. He is able to explain dance concepts very well, and if you still dont get it, he will come up with as many iterations to explain the concept as possible! He is very patient - the perfect instructor for beginner learners!Bottom line - whether you have no experience, or if you have already won pro-am titles, Firebeat will work on setting goals for you and get down to achieving them, all in a friendly, fun and comfortable setting.

My friend was a student here. Once she had an inquiry about a pricing sheet she was given, and the owners were very offended. Astonishingly, they told her we are artists, we dont talk about price, and demanded her to just pay what was asked of her and not ask any more questions. On the other hand, the owners ask students to leave them reviews and write good reviews so they can make more money. It is just hypocritical.

I began going to Firebeat in 2011 after moving to Boston and taking some time off from dancing. Andre clearly has his students best interests in mind, something that eludes many coaches/instructors in the dance business. Have been with the Firebeat team for years now. I dedicate a great deal of my time training, taking lessons and traveling around the country to compete in Latin Scholarships, Championships and Dancesport events. Dancing is my passion and Firebeat has become my second home! The first few years we were occupying a humble space in Allston but the new studio is simply phenomenal. Andre is, and has been, my main coach for the last 6-7 years. I really value his continuous dedication and drive to expand his own proficiency and understanding of the art of dance. This carries to his instruction and continuously raises the bar for himself and for me as a student. He is the tough Russian with the heart of a teddy bear.

Not sure what is the hype about this studio. I originally purchased a four pack of classes through Groupon. The first class (intro to ballroom) which I took was good but it was tough to tell for sure if I was into it as it was the first time Ive ever done ballroom. The second class I took (intro to social latin) left me wondering what is the real knowledge of people who teach here is. The swing and hustle dances were taught. Now, I am not sure how you start with a latin dance in the class title, and you teach swing practiced to modern day pop music. I have had much better swing dance class experiences at other studios closer into Boston. At the end of the second class, I asked Vlad to confirm the Intro to Ballroom was on for that next night as that would be Valentines Night. He said it was on, but was unsure of the time, so I checked with the monthly programming calendar on their website to confirm that it was indeed on.I got to the door that next night, only to learn that the intro to ballroom class that night was cancelled, as the only offering that was available was a special couples dance. Well, there goes a dance class that I paid for, but couldnt use due to their tight 30 day window to use a 4 pack of classes that is only valid for 2 possible class times per week. I felt it was kind of strange that they left essentially leaving out a big chunk of their demographic out in the cold on a night they should be doing their heaviest volume of business at a place with 3 different rooms.

At other places, i found myself getting bored well before new content was introduced, so this was a wonderful experience! Co-owner, Chin, is very welcoming and friendly. She gave me an impromptu dance history lesson when I mentioned my confusion around different categories of dance and it was a lovely 45-minute conversation (her notes hang on my fridge). I love the clean elegance of the studios, lockers, and a shower (!)...also appreciate the organized information boards on happenings and competitions, and the general sociability of the people there makes for a lovely inviting space. Firebeat Dancesport Studio is a special place because it combines a warm and welcoming atmosphere with exceptional instruction. The owners, Andre and Ching, are as dedicated to their students as they are to their dancing. Andre’s technique classes are invaluable – he is both a renowned Latin dancer and a talented instructor, dedicated to giving Firebeat students a strong basis in technique. Firebeat pro-am students are especially lucky to have Ching, who started out as a pro-am dancer herself, and so has a unique perspective on what’s it like to develop as a dancer. She’s incredibly sensitive to her students’ desires to achieve, and insightfully coaches them so that they can take their dancing to the next level. All the instructors who have taught at Firebeat in the time that I’ve been here have been incredibly dedicated to their students. I can’t say enough positive things about Brad, whose unique combination of patience, expertise, and persistence make him an excellent teacher. If you’re interested in learning ballroom dance, I highly recommend Firebeat.

While Firebeat is initially a captivating studio due to the beautiful design, adorable cafe and charm of the instructors, additional information should be provided to those interested in becoming a member at this studio. They work to churn out great competitive dancers, but dont often have the dancers well-being in mind.Firstly, Andre is a fantastic instructor and dancer. He is essentially the lifeblood of the studio and attracts a lot of talent. Its important to note that a few of the students at this studio exhibit quite a bit of talent. On another note, Ching is a bit of a wildcard. Pay her lots of money and compliments, and youll be elevated to a special social hierarchy within the studio. She will love you. However, this can change very quickly, should your budget change. This sudden change can leave you feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome.A lot of the other reviews come from friends, family and students all looking to boost support for the studio, but also in order to gain more respect and attention from the instructors. Instructor attention waxes and wanes based on what you can provide them.I was asked to write a review prior to leaving the studio but am only now getting around to it. I was a member of the studio from June 2015 - January 2016. I attended 1 competition with them and did fairly well for a first-timer.At the end of the day, this is a business. The instructors arent your friends, but rather people you pay to aid in your success as a dancer. If the instructors at this studio feel like they can push you to purchase more products, packages, private lessons, etc., - they will - and as soon as they realize that you arent easy to sell to, theyll either ask you to leave or theyll suggest that you take group classes, but nothing more.If youre the sort of person looking to make close friendships or are interested in this studio for the social aspect, I dont recommend it. However, if youre well-off financially and are looking to compete, it might be the studio for you.Happy dancing! As an update: I communicated my concerns to my instructor and received a response saying I was dismissed from the team. While it may have behooved me to communicate my concern to the owners directly, communication is a two way street and I would expect that an instructor might talk to me if they felt like my commitment is lacking. And while Ching and I met initially and discussed my budget before my first competition, it appeared that after my competition the expectations were higher and therefore, more money was expected. One cannot contest that dedication is half the investment, but I can assure that dedication was not the issue. Expect to pay for those precious extra practice hours with them and even the (free) supervised practice.

I came to Firebeat as a wallflower with a pathological fear of Latin dancing. In less than two years, the amazing instruction, nurturing and genuine care transformed me into a woman with passion for dance who competes, places well and, most importantly, now has a new creative outlet in this beautiful art form :)I have studied the ballroom dance industry as a business, so please believe me when I tell you. The instructors here are the genuine article. They aren’t here for the money. They’re here because they are Artists with a capital A, and want to share their joy with the world around them. And that means, they’ll get you to your dancing goal efficiently – be it choreographing a wedding dance, becoming a champion or just being comfortable enough to get yourself out on the floor – with the least money possible from your end. And they will give you so much more besides. There are currently four ballroom dance instructors at the studio: Andre, Ching, Brad and Anna. I have worked with each of them, and each is wonderful. Their true passion is Latin dance, but they are wonderful at teaching smooth / International as well.Andre is the studio’s lifeblood. He is a world-class Latin dance champion and, as someone else said here, the “tough Russian with the heart of a teddy bear”. His technique is the foundation of the studio’s teaching methods, and the main reason why Firebeat students place so well in competitions.Ching is the studio’s soul. Andre’s student and now his dance partner, Ching also has a doctorate in neuroscience. This helps her explain difficult concepts in extremely accessible ways to us. In addition, Ching fosters a real community at Firebeat, making sure that the atmosphere is constructive, the students are motivated, support each other, and that we never lose sight of dance as a pilgrimage that we undertake together to become better human beings.Brad is the studio’s rhythm, his level-headedness and fun personality guiding the studio and students through triumphs, failures and everything in between. Because of his genuine investment in his students, Brad was the first to see potential in me, even when I did not see it in myself. Then, through a balance of perfectionism, patience, tact, intuition, and a splash of fun, he steadily guided me to where I am today.Anna is the studio’s angel. Her sweet temper, love for her art and care for her students shows us all by example what it means to be a truly happy and beautiful person, despite all circumstances. She is great with beginners and has lots of passion for the smooth / International dances (waltz, foxtrot, tango, etc.)I am VERY glad I came here. Being able to continue lessons at Firebeat was a major factor in my decision to stay in Boston after business school.
