YARCS challenges our kids to work hard, think critically and to respect other points of view. Every teacher, aide and staff member we have interacted with takes an active interest in the development and support of our kids. We love the school and community.

My kids have been going here for 3 years and even though the virus has us on virtual learning they made the transition easy and not many issues. The teachers have been wonderful and understanding and been doing a great job. I Love this school

I went to York Academy from 1st to the end of 9th, so 9 whole years of my life. Earlier on, when the school was first made and when I first joined, things were good. The education was demanding yet well balanced, and people were overall kind. However, as the years went on, I found that things began to get worse and worse. Teachers began caring less and giving more punishments for petty rule breakings, and the workload began to pile up. This is just a part of going to higher grades, yes, but I do not think that classes should have a work load of 7 classes, almost each and every one having a daily assignment, and projects made weekly. Besides the obscene workload, this school is an IB school, meaning that all work is more difficult but for a better diploma. Again, this is fine, but a recent rule instated (which was the snapping point for me wanting to leave) was that ALL students must go for an IB diploma, and ALL classes must be for an IB diploma. Normal IB schools do not require an IB diploma, and if you do want one then you only need to take 2 IB level classes. The fact that the normal workload, the grades before the IB level difficulty are already causing over half of the grade to fail, is just disappointing. For this year, under half of the maximum amount of 10th graders passed, meaning that less than 35 students passed. Keeping in mind that these are the easier classes, the ones that are not IB, I really am scared for my friends education and grades as the years go on. Other than that, staff are fairly rude, communication between staff, students, and parents is terrible (to the point where a friend of mine got threatened with a knife, the attacker got expelled, and the victims mother never found out), and new rules are enlisted and removed nonstop making for a confusing and stress inducing experience.Tl;Dr: After 9 years of experience, I can confidently say that the work load is much too large for the average student, and that the staff, communication, and petty rule making is way too much to be a good high school experience, and has honestly broken my work ethic and the mental stability of friends and people around me. If I could give a negative star rating, I would.

We have loved our York Academy experience. We value that our children get to learn in a diverse environment, and where the curriculum and standards are rigorous. We have found all of our childrens teachers to be caring, but firm, and we find that they want to partner with us to work toward what is best for the kids. We also really like the International Baccalaureate programs that focus on critical thinking, language acquisition, and developing a global perspective. As a former teacher, I really appreciate the IB grading system too because it emphases student learning and mastery. York Academy isnt for everyone, but it is for us, and were glad we chose it for our kids. Id recommend any family consider it as an option!

York Academy has embedded itself into the heart of the York community and were very happy to be among the families who call it our school. As York Academy parents, my wife and I see students who build each other up through their challenges. Were kept informed by teachers who apply a principled learning approach in their student-driven classrooms. We communicate openly with an administration passionate about pushing beyond the limits of traditional education. And we come home to two sons who are excited about the world they explore every day.Its so cool to see a school in the heart of Yorks downtown that brings students together into one community from such a broad range of cultural backgrounds throughout the county.Much thanks to the students, parents, teachers and staff who make YARCS a great place to learn.

Me personally have nothing at all bad to say about this school. Im informed of anything that is suggested for my child prior to me making the suggestion. Both of my boys have been in city school and York Academy is in a class of its own. When trying to get a handle on any issue my boys needed an advocate for, the school just points fingers at someone else . York Academy, when they dont know something. They find out!!!! The consideration of others in the parking areas seem to be changing. Starting to see a lot of Parents not Caring about safety anymore. Crossing where ever. PARKING in the middle of the street!! Kids coming out from in between cars (blind spot) not using cross walks like at the city schools. The issues with the city police will have issues with York Academy again like the fresher years. The teachers mine have had. Have been on top of theyre job!!!

An excellent and uniquely designed school that welcomes children from all racial and socio-economic backgrounds. A school that celebrates diversity and provides a high quality education at no cost to families. York city is fortunate to have a school like York Academy Regional Charter School operating downtown.

Instead of giving students all the work to do that way they can have a break no they want to do it day by day so now kids dont have time to relax for a day without doing a thing with school the only break they will be getting is the weekend. Also we are on break because of a virus outbreak so are prepare if we stick doing work on a computer and what if the network shutdown or you dont have network or electricity and what if they go somewhere like to New York or Washington and they stay there the whole break and got no school work done.

My experience with the school only involves the application process. After starting the whole thing, we were told that our daughter was 15 on the list...we eventually moved to 2 towards the end of summer. Once school started, we accepted the fact that our daughter would not be going to York Academy. ..it was a lottery. Then about two weeks into the school year, I guess they figured out there was still a slot open...2 WEEKS IN. We were all excited for a chance and opportunity. My daughter went in and took the placement exam. We were told that we would hear from the school in a couple of days. About 2 weeks later with no response, I called the school . I know the school is busy, but I felt that the matter deserved a little more than, we were about to call you, and the CEO needed to review it and he had been out of the office for a couple of days . I feel that this part of the process was dragged on for too long...that is the reason for the low review. Wish we could have experienced the rest of it because we have heard good things.

My children have been in this school since it opened. I used to be proud to have my kids attending this school, but the more time that passes I realized this school is nothing more than a cleaner city school. The staff is constantly changing and when your child needs extra help there is no sense of urgency. My daughter was an ambassador for this school and used to enjoy it and now she doesnt even want to be involved in anything anymore. If you can volunteer all your time to this school then your child will be treated well, but if your a parent that has to work then your child is treated differently. Its sad to say but this used to be a good school now Im not sure if having my kids ther was a goid idea.

Went to school here for less than a month in Kindergarten and was mentally scarred and terrified of the idea of school until 4th grade. They have no idea how to help students, handle bullying or even run a school.

This school isn’t better than the other city schools just more new. I wouldn’t recommend sending your kids here especially if you don’t live in the city because there are many many better schools. The kids here are very disrespectful and some of the teachers are always changing/quitting.
